I think it will definitely finish a lot of people off if they gave the job to Carver. I have not heard anyone that is supportive of such a appointment. Even the pundits are dismissing the notion out of hand saying he is not good enough. I will admit that the squad has been lacking - both in numbers and quality but if he had anything about him, he should still be able to put a team out that looks organised and focussed and with a plan. There has been nothing of the sort and he seems to lurch from one chaotic idea to another. I cannot begin to imagine why they would seriously consider giving him the job. There has been no evidence whatsoever that he is capable in anyway.
  2. The trouble is that it becomes more difficult to "showcase" your talent in a struggling team. Players are better off going to Swansea these days. The only thing we can offer them now is the big stadium with 52k but the numbers are dropping and the atmosphere is dead so that is no longer much of an attraction either.

Even if the people who boycotted go to the next game, they could well now be seriously contemplating cancelling their season ticket and may just want to see the season out.

But a decent manager could still get the team organised and get them to put some effort in to at least pick up the odd point,
  5. I am not worrying whether we get relegated or not. If it happens it happens. As far as I am concerned, it's the club's own fault so they reap what they sow. As well as letting the club (and players) drift because there is no focus to the second part of the season, they've also tried to save a few pounds by not appointing a proper manager or bringing in much needed players. If they end up losing millions because of their own inertia and poor decision-making, then it would serve themselves right.
  6. The Mirror saying that Southampton want him as back up for Forster!!!! Expect him to leave but no way is he joining a club as their back up keeper. (Also say they want Janmaat to replace Clyne who is refusing to sign a new contract).
  7. Signing him at all never mind for £4m would be worthy of a boycott itself.
  8. Well they managed to pull out a win during the Cardiff protest last season so I don't really think it should bother them that much although they would try to pin any loss on the fans.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-fans-every-right-angry-5546680? Newcastle fans have every right to be angry with Mike Ashley - not grateful for club's £34m bank balance 07:00, 19 April 2015 OPINION BY ANDYDUNN The club announced their financial results this week, giving further evidence to why Ashley doesn't care about the devoted supporters one iota But making money and annoying the hell out of people can be pretty much taken as read. He is an absolute belter at both. In the same week some Newcastle supporters were preparing a boycott of today’s game against Tottenham Hotspur in protest at his ownership, results for the financial year ending April 30, 2014 showed Ashley’s companies had made a profit of £524.7million. That’s 524.7m reasons why Ashley does not give a toss about the malcontents who will make themselves scarce. Anyway, they are ingrates, the lot of them. Ashley saved the club, he has put bundles of his own cash in. Sure he has. And if you think Ashley is not going to make a big fat profit from his investment in Newcastle United, then you are as deluded as John Carver when he says it’s going to be spend, spend, spend this summer. Carver is probably just towing the line. Grateful to be given an unlikely chance as a Premier League manager. And Ashley seems to like grateful people. He has dabbled with employees who might not necessarily NEED the job – Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer – but it has been mainly those who would be dutifully thankful. Joe Kinnear? Four years out of a job and completely off-radar. Grateful? Yes. Chris Hughton? A backroom shuffler for many years. Grateful? Yes. Alan Pardew? Let go by Championship Charlton, then dumped by League One Southampton. Grateful? Yes. Carver? Seemingly destined for a career as an assistant. Grateful? Yes. Ashley likes grateful people. That is why 15,000 of his company’s staff are on those zero-hours contracts. Unfortunately for them, they are grateful for whatever he can put their way. And for him, the dosh keeps rolling in. St James’ Park is a gaudy billboard televised around the world, thanks to the success of the Premier League. The club itself showed a tidy profit of £18.7m in its last set of accounts, which also revealed a bank balance of £34.1m. It also showed that Ashley’s interest-free loan to the club stands at £129m. But that’s what it is: a loan. He will have it back, make no mistake. Meanwhile, Ashley and his chief executive Lee Charnley – risen without trace and, no doubt, extremely grateful – have cast aside any pretence of running a club with traditional values. Their lack of interest in cup competitions, for example, is a heinous insult. Yet you can bet, Newcastle fans, that Ashley thinks you should be eternally grateful. You should not. Your club has become a commercial shell. A vacuous institution. And the only people who keep it an institution are you. There has been a good, balanced debate rattling around Tyneside over the worthiness of not turning up for the fixture against Spurs. Those who say the team – on a desperate run – needs support regardless of feelings against the owner have a strong case. Those who say there is no alternative out there are also not without reasonable foundation for their view. But the least convincing argument against supporting the boycott is that whatever happens it will not concern Ashley one iota. That is not the point. Whether you turn up or not, making sure – in an entirely peaceful and reasonable manner, of course – Ashley knows that you, unlike his staff, do not have to be grateful, is the least any self-respecting Newcastle fan can do.

It depends what is meant by investment? It could be interpreted in different ways.
  11. I dont think spending 30 million is enough and I suspect carver really does have the job. John Anderson is a nob. It's not enough when you pay up front, include the total wages for the duration of the contract and the agent's fees.

Well they do talk in fork tongues. Last time Shearer spoke to Ashley, he parted thinking he had the job permanently and then never heard from him again.

If that is true then Ashley is guaranteeing relegation next season. I can't believe that he wants that so he is either more stupid that I can imagine regarding football or is is planning to go but to leave an almighty mess for someone to clear up after him.
  14. Also it matters to Sky and the Premier League that the stadiums are full as that image is what helps to sell it worldwide. It was something the Premier League stressed with the recent TV deal. Newcastle are on TV a lot - even more than last season (can't be for the entertainment - at least not from the NUFC's point of view). If people stay away and the regular backdrop is loads of empty seats, then I would expect Sky to show fewer of our games . The club gets a significant fee for each game shown so they would also lose revenue in that way.

Remember when Pardew played Cisse when he wasn't fit earlier in the season and against the advice of his medical staff against Hull during the SackPardew.com period. I wonder if that decision has caused the continuing problems with his knee.

Someone walked past SJP last night and noticed all the photographs in the skip and posted photos on twitter. Looks like the Chronicle has picked up on it.
  17. If Cisse gets back in for the last 3 games, we might get to score a goal and if Aarons gets a few minutes on the pitch, then we might not be so predictable. But they certainly need some sort of impetus to stop the rot. Winnable games are no longer winnable if you have lost the previous 7/8 games and morale is rock bottom. I think we might scrape another couple of draws but I would not be confident about that and we are totally dependent upon other teams not catching us up. Fortunately some of them have to play each other and the games are running out. If there were another couple of games to play, we would be dead certs for relegation.
  18. Apparently Liverpool were looking at him last Summer and are still very keen on him as they are looking for a replacement for Glen Johnson.
  19. It seems they're putting a lot of thought into shafting the b******. Well that would be amazing, especially if they default on the money they owe him as well http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-board-launches-probe-after-5487885? I read (maybe on the Chronicle comments section) that he has done something similar with us although as he is the owner, I guess it is within his rights but could be an indication of complications should there be a buyer for the club.
  20. It was Stoke away in 1971 or 1972. I think we lost 2-0 - pretty sure Jimmy Greenhoff scored and for some reason I think it was a header but maybe I imagined that. The main thing I remember is that my Dad bought seats for us (including my younger brother) in the main stand rather than letting us stand and then complaining to Mam afterwards how expensive it was. Goodness knows what he would say about today's prices.

The club managed to control the protests for the Hull game as they confiscated a lot of the protest material so the impact was a lot less than it might have been. And the disgraceful manipulation of the Jonas situation which came out a day or two beforehand also had an effect. I would not be surprised to start seeing headlines about how the club needs the fans onside because we don’t want to get embroiled in a relegation fight. The club will certainly be trying to manipulate the fans through the media to damage the protest. --- I liked the sentiment made by someone on a website that as the players haven't been turning up for recent games that we have decided not to bother attending the Spurs game. Although that is not the point of the protest, I am sure that message will appeal to some supporters.

Surely the scanners in the turnstiles are what determine total amount? If the stadium is half-empty (doubtful, but I think, tactically, it's still the correct method of protest) - but the club try and claim it as 49k, it will make them look an even bigger joke. AO.com are going for the visual and I pray to God they successfully shepherd the sheep into making a significant statement. There have been a couple of games recently where the attendance has been £50k+ where I seriously doubted there were that many there as there were a good few gaps around.
  23. I wouldn't include Dummet, I'd be ok with Cisse going, Armstrong I've seen nothing to suggest he may make it in the Premiership. Imagine advocating losing the only player we have that can score goals I wouldn't let Cisse leave until the "new" strikers have proven they can score goals in this league. If they sign another pair of strikers like Riviere and Luuk de Jong, we will be in serious trouble.

The people who bought Man City were interested in buying us but it has been reported that Ashley did not turn up at the arranged meeting so they looked elsewhere. I believe there are interested buyers but Ashley will be a nightmare to deal with, is probably asking too much and does he even want to sell.
