I don't think comparing signing Carroll to Cabaye or Ba or Cisse in terms of value is worthwhile. There is a link in terms of talent and track record representing price, but really its about what you can afford to pay for a player that will improve your squad and if you can get an equivalent improvement in the squad but spending on an another player. He's worth more to West Ham as they would find it difficult to attract a player that will be as effective due to being recently promoted (and shit) and they figure they could get him due to Nolan and Carrolls affair and also Allardyce must have had some interactions with him.
