This "Player X would choose club Y over club Z" argument is flawed, anyway. The fact is that outside the top four, there really aren't a lot of defining factors between clubs, certainly not in the second tranche. Big clubs of tradition - Newcastle, Everton, Villa, Spurs; clubs with a bit of nouveau wad : Man City, Portsmouth, West Ham; clubs where they pay way over the odds to get decent players: Boro; clubs where the wife won't let the player go because she doesn't fancy the shopping: Sunderland, Boro, Reading ..... you could put together a whole list of parameters these days. The fact is that if they're not in the Champions League, there's really not a lot to distinguish between clubs these days, and the "X is a bigger club than Y" argument doesn't work like it might have done 20 years ago.
  2. He's a prince amongst men.
  3. Gerrard is a fucking cunt full stop. I hate few people in football as much as I hate that peanut headed cocksucker.
  4. Exactly. It is only May FFS. Who gives a fuck what Spurs do, leave them to it. I'm sure we were having this exact same conversation this time last summer and look how that panned out. People need to chill. Same thing happening with our fans.
  5. That Guzan is the one who was joining us before the Home Office refused us a work permit on account of us not being in the Sky4
  6. Barry and Gerrard combining brilliantly there. Exactly what I didn't want to see. FUCK YOU, ENGLAND, FUCK YOU
  7. All this "not good enough to get us to the next level" stuff is odd. Surely one prerequisite to get to the next level (incidentally, what is 'the next level'?) is to have decent depth of squad. Not every player Newcastle sign is going to be an obvious 'next leveller' - strength in depth is just as important as quality in the first eleven, surely? (Obviously, the above in no way reflects the way I responded when we signed Knight and Harewood last year , but MON was right and I was wrong).
  8. Where are they putting away fans now?
  9. What a piss take. My ST at Villa is £510 next year, and that is the most expensive ticket in the house (other than the corporate nonsense), up only 35 quid on last year. We've capped ST numbers at 26,000 apparently, which seems a bit low, but Lerner doesn't want to exclude those who can't afford to pay for the whole season (although, on the other hand, selling tickets for individual games makes you more money per match than STs do). Two years on, and I can't fault Lerner for a single thing. He's been the absolute best he could have been.
  10. How is Manchester central for the whole of England? Correct, Birmingham would be the perfect location apart from the fact it is a proper nightmare to get in and out of. The site they wanted to build it on was at the NEC. Right next to the M42, a few miles from the M6, and about five miles from the M40. Access would have been a piece of piss. Well, relatively speaking.
  11. How is Manchester central for the whole of England?
  12. Does anyone really think the UEFA Cup is that big a draw when signing players? Since they've changed the format and butchered the competition, it really has become a bit pointless, surely?
  13. reductions for people based on the fact that they sing is unfair to the people paying more because they dont sing. My god, do you want an atmosphere or what?????? fans paying more than those who sing based purely on the fact that they dont sing is ridiculous. Honestly mate, have a look at what you're saying , with all due respect it is you who is sounding a bit ridiculous. This is a scheme to encourage the so called 'singers' to merge together in the worst seats in the ground. Because these are the worst seats in the ground they should also be the cheapest. Last season, Villa did something similar. Moved away fans from the North Stand lower (awful seats, no legroom, shit view), put home fans there and made 1,500 or so of the 3000 tickets there available at 200 quid adults, 50 quid kids. The result was a much, much better atmosphere in the ground as a whole, and lots of people being able to afford STs who couldn't before. Stand probably getting pulled down at end of this coming season, so don't know what will happen long term, though
  14. We need a right back, he's a right back, so they do the easy connection. Absolute nonsense. If we'd wanted that kind of shit RB we'd have kept Bardsley. Or *shudder* Aaron Hughes.

    Now what?

Easy. Two weeks till Euros. Then after they finish, a dull week, then I go on holiday for two weeks. Then I come back, and three days later ... Intertoto Cup! I can still today remember the glorious day we lifted it at Villa Park, it was like yesterday, it was such a sweet, sweet memory.
  16. We've got four Villa fans and one Man United fan in our office. The Man United fan is from Kidderminster. Says it all.
  17. I'm glad that those cunts Ronaldo and "JT" bottled it. The fucking bottlers.
  18. On the bright side, we remain members of a more exclusive club than it would have been had Chelsea won it.
  19. Ive got my finger on the Sky Guide button for the nanosecond this ends, just in case it is Man U.
  20. Fucking cheating git, I hate that stopping your run up thing. Got what he deserved.
  21. Disagree. Drogba slapped Vidic right in front of the ref. Absolutely, he had no choice but to send him off.
  22. He's getting on, though. I'd rather we found a longer term solution, we've done two years without a proper right back. Three years if you include Hughes. Well, yes. Even that Bardsley wasn't an improvement when we had him on loan. He's at the Mackems now, which says a lot.
