  1. http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/9311/peterwithelz3.jpg Legend. Class when he tried to tackle that dog. When we signed him, people were saying "surely we can sign better players than that". Saunders said "he's the final piece in the jigsaw". We looked at him as if he was having some kind of nervous breakdown and losing the plot. He was right. Trust in the manager. Zat Knight however ......

  3. I fucking hope we get shot of Petrov this summer. I'll add another underperformer, too. Gareth Barry. Wretched second half of the season. This is lazy journalism though: 3 goals but only 1 start.
  4. One good season. Following season was rubbish. 4m for him = good move.
  5. That's a bit harsh on Harewood. I was horrified when we sign him, but it hasn't turned out too bad. He's done alright for a bench warmer. Scored good goals at Liverpool and Reading, too. Only started for the first time yesterday. He's no world beater, but he's not mean to be. I can't believe I'm saying this but shipping Luke Moore out and moving Harewood up a place has been a good move. Moore is a sulky arsed slouch who is in the process of pissing it all away. Zat Knight on the other hand, I fully agree with. Again, don't mind having him as a 4th choice or something, but playing him ahead of Cahill and then selling the latter is weird.

Ground emptying rapidly and the Villa fans are singing 'fuck off back to London la la la lah". Brilliant.

NRC at right back for fuck's sake. Petrov on the pitch, for fuck's sake. Bright side, no Knight. My prediction? Bumming. Facial.

    Reyes a Target

Newcastle is as multicultural as London tbh. It might be as multicultural (well, it isn't is, it, by a f****** long shot, but that isn't the point), but its also nowhere near as interesting. Two points: 1) If London wasn't interesting enough for him,. NEwcastle won't be. LEts not get the pathetic provincial blinkers on about that. 2) Why the f*** woudl he want to come here? And dont say f****** Keegan. No player of his age gives a toss about Keegan. I fear we're too small a club for him. Are you pissed? Good job you don't work to try and promote are region. Having worked in London and born and bred in the toon I think Our region is as every bit as interesting as London (IMO). Secondly, I reckon he's the kind of player that should come to NUFC; hes far better than any of our midfielders by the way and Keegan would get the best out of him. No offence, mate, but have you been taking a large quanity of narcotics? London is one of a handful (ie about 3) global megacities. There is only one city in Europe that even comes near London, and it isn't Newcastle or any other British city. And as for having heard of Keegan's side of the 90s, Reyes is of Seville gypsy stock. He''d have been a teenager in the mid 90s. How closely do we really think he'd have kept tabs on Keegan's side of the era? I love football. It makes us all don enormous blinkers and throw reason to the wind.

    Reyes a Target

Hang on. When he left the Arse, didn't Reyes go on at length about how he couldn't settle in London, with its lack of things to do, and shops which closed every now and then? So he can't settle in the most multicultural city in the world, but he's expected to settle in Newcastle? Or anywhere else in the UK for that matter? Disaster waiting to happen.
  10. That makes him sound like some kind of dashing hero Galloping calamity, more like.

Strictly speaking, the above would require a three sided coin.

    Today's other games

I've never read a forum where people watch as much football as you lot do on here. Not talking about tonight in particular, but usually when I see a 'Todays Other Games' thread, I know there'll be someone there talking about the second half of Levante v Getafe or something. Impressive. I sometimes wish I were single. It'd be a toss up whether I wanked myself to death, drank myself to death, or lost my sight through staring at televised football for 24 hours.
  13. I'll never forget the day I heard we had signed Zat Knight. Sadly. Dawson is like a white Knight.
  14. Mellberg (who has indeed gone to Juve on a Bosman) is on a downward curve and has been for a while now. He's a good example. What would be the point for a player like him to make a "sideways" move (ie one to the non top 4 chasing pack)? He's done what players do these days, looked after number one and gone for the pay day and experience of playing at a club like Juventus, although it will clearly be a come down playing in front of such shit attendances. How ironic. Good luck to the guy. Great servant to the club. he's about 30, right ? Might be 31, but around that age, yes.
  15. Roland Don't really see your logic ?? It's not about how good a player is, it's about market value, and Zoggy has a pretty high market value, not as high as Bentley's admittadly but certainly nowhere near the gap you are trying to portray. If Bentley moves he'll fetch around 15 - 18 mill, IMO. But Zoggy will go for around 10 mill IMO, the likes of West ham and Spuds will be only too happy to stump that amount up for him. Villa too could be interested. Just got the feeling that anywhere but Newcastle will do for Zoggy atm. We've got enough options on the left, it is the right where we're f*****. I bet he goes to West Ham. absolute tosh about your valuation. Bentley is English and at the top of his game getting rave reviews. NZog is a squad player at an average club with a questionable temperament Not my valuation. Observe quotes

  17. I hope he's in our central defence instead of Knight next week, I know that much.
  18. He's a decent player with a top notch attitude.

  20. well, I don't really think football has changed too much. Blackburn may be able to offer him more money than they used to be able to do because of sky etc, but from an ambition point of view, fans, and the type of area and football club, the likes of Newcastle beat them all ends up every time. Others do too unfortunately. Its a real coup for Hughes if he can persuade him to stay, but if I were Bentley I wouldn't stay at Blackburn. I disagree. Bentley is not going to leave Blackburn to make a sideways move. What would be the point him leaving to join Newcastle, Everton, Villa, Man City? There's slightly more likelihood of him joining Spurs for the London lifestyle, but other than that, he's very unlikely to do anything other than bide his time and wait for a move to one of the big four (three in his case, discounting Arsenal for obvious reasons). Theres little incentive in moving from one also-ran to another when the ultimate ambition is to be at one of the big boys. As you said, Sky money has distorted the situation, and although waving a huge wad of cash at players still does work from time to time, it isn't anywhere near as persuasive as it used to be. Neither is the 'footballing city' thing. Players these days care about one thing - themselves, unfortunately. I don't consider moving from Blackburn to Newcastle to be a "sideways" move, in the grand scheme of things. Aston Villa maybe. In the longer term, Blackburn may be above Newcastle at the moment, but not too many people will think that situation will continue for very long. Or that being a Blackburn player is preferable to being a Newcastle player in the long term either. I think you've become a little detached from reality if you don't think a move from Blackburn to Newcastle is a sideways move. And as for the comment about "shite little clubs like Blackburn", that'd be Blackburn who've won the league even in the miniscule timeframe of the average Sky football fan? I've got a lot of time for you in much of what you post, but that is condescending bullshit of the type which gives Newcastle fans a bad name. Wimbledon are bigger than Liverpool because they beat them in the 1988 Cup final ? Notts Forest are bigger than Barcelona because they won the European Cup in 1979 and 1980 ? Bollocks Don't make me laugh. Even the biggest diehard Blackburn fan [all 8,000 of them] would concede they aren't as big a club as clubs like Newcastle, and just to prove I'm not being deliberately patronising, Sunderland too. Who are also a bigger club than Aston Villa who can't even fill a 44000 stadium. I didnt say Blackburn were as big a club as Newcastle. I said it was a sideways move. That's a totally different thing. You're putting words in my mouth and countering an argument I didn't actually make. We can't fill a 44,000 stadium mainly because we don't have a 44,000 stadium, it is a 42,640 stadium and it was full yesterday. However, since you're resorting to pettiness, I've supported Villa since I was 6. 1973. Since then: 1 European Cup 1 League Championship 1 European Super Cup 4 League Cups. and I'm still prepared to admit Blackburn to Villa is a sideways move these days. Still, you've got your big crowds and your sneering at other clubs to clutch on to. Wake up and smell the coffee. I edited the post and made a further point. You missed where I have said that in football terms in the long run, Newcastle is a step up from Blackburn, not current league positions. Players want to play for big clubs. If you were a footballer, who would YOU play for, Newcastle or Blackburn ? It's up to Newcastle to capitalise on the fanbase, and its up to the club to go to players like him and show him that we want him to play for us and we are a progressive club with far more potential than his current club and we have the intention of making our advantages count as soon as possilble and we see him as being an important player to help us to do this. All valid points, but to David Bentley sat there in Blackburn, right now or at the end of this season they won't matter a jot to him. He's not going to give a toss about the potential of Newcastle, he's going to care about the potential of David Bentley. Again, there's such a chasm between the big four and the rest, that choosing amongst the rest is really just choosing amongst the also-rans. That was my point. That's why Blackburn to Newcastle - right now - can be considered a sideways move. And it is likely to stay that way for a while. Not massively controversial, I'm just a bit disappointed you went for the aggressive, patronising route rather than looking at what i was actually saying.
  21. Football has changed, it has been distorted by lots of things, by the Sky era fans who take in one match a season, by the people who can afford to buy a season ticket and actually turn up to 5 or 6 matches a season, by the traditional young, working class supporter being priced out, by money bringing a short cut to success. Chelsea are in the top four now, but with their money, it could quite easily be QPR in five years. That's not to say it is right or good that football is going this way, but to pretend otherwise is to bury your head in the sand.

Ifs and buts matter not a jot to footballers. As things stand right now, it would be a sideways move.
