I question his ability to consistently put in good performances. If he was a "very good player" he wouldn't have consistency issues. To me, very good players are those who you can bank on to play well the majority of the time. Marveaux definitely hasn't done that for NUFC yet.

eh? I don't think Sylvain Marveaux is a "Very good player". I was asking who Marveaux was being rated against to call him a "Very good player". Well you dont need rate him by comparing him to others, you rate him based on his ability as a footballer. If you dont think he's a good footballer then fair enough, but I think we've seen enough from him to suggest otherwise. Consistency and playing in his prefered position seem to have been his biggest problems. Marveaux has not been a "very good player" for NUFC yet. He has some nice skills but equally he can disappear in games. I'd want a lot more good performances from him before I started calling him a very good player. Exactly. I wouldn't say Obertan was a good player. I wouldn't even call him an average player (compared to Premier League players). Comparing Marveaux to Obertan is like comparing Marveaux with Bale.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/ West Ham had an £18m agreed purchase fee with Liverpool as part of the loan deal wasn't it? They'd be mental to pay that.

SSN saying he is on his way up to talk to them now. Surely they'd already have talked to him if he's the man they are thinking of replacing O'Neill with?

"Very good player" compared to who?

It's laughable the stories in the media questioning O'Neill's sacking. Apart from his new manager bounce honeymoon period O'Neill's been awful for Sunderland. That's why Newcastle fans wanted him to keep the job. Being friends with the media really does cover up a multitude of sins. Those same media pundits wouldn't want any of these sacked managers they've 'cried' about managing one of their clubs (i.e. the usual suspects of Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal or Liverpool). I am a little worried Sunderland may improve under whoever their new manager is. With O'Neill nothing would change but with the new guy the players will be trying to impress him.

Tioté hasn't played well for awhile. Gives Anita, Perch or Bigi a chance. We could also play Cabaye alongside Sissoko with Marveaux ahead of them in the number 10 role. NUFC.COM have "Cheick Tiote will also be absent with a muscle strain."

I guess Roy doesn't think much of the players on the bench.

I don't get the implication that NUFC should sign him up before his contract enters the last year. Who are NUFC competing with for his signature? Are other clubs waiting to pounce if NUFC hesitate? I doubt it. If Shola wants to play regular football then he should leave. If he's happy to be a 'super' sub and get the occasional start in a cup game then he will stay. I don't hate Shola but I would hope that NUFC don't rely on him. His goal return isn't good for a striker. His fitness record isn't good either. If he's on a low wage and 4th or 5th choice I don't have a problem with him staying.

True. He had no need to carry the ball to where he did. He could have just booted it clear but he tried to be clever and ended up injuring himself. If Colo wants to leave in the Summer NUFC should make him buy his way out of the contract. He's been getting paid a reported £50K a week during his time with NUFC so that's £2.6m a year (before tax) he's been getting. Let's see how much you really want to leave Colo. Put your money where your mouth is.

Carver should respond to the FA's charge with a diatribe about how incompetent and corrupt the FA and it's officials are. He's going to get done by them anyway so he may as well go down all guns blazing and tell those c***s what he thinks of them.

Pure conjecture.

I've just bought my ticket. I guess they post the ticket first class otherwise it will be pushing it to arrive by Thursday. -
100? I'm going to take a stab that we've had triple that since we last scored a corner, going from Beren's stat from the Statistical analysis thread. I meant 100 corners in one game. You'd have to think we'll eventually score from one. It's like flipping a coin. We must have got 'tails' 300 times in a row. It's got to come up 'heads' one day.

Credit where it's due, he played well and set up the winner with his cameo off the bench. He needs to keep doing that, especially when he starts a game. One assist doesn't mean those previous mediocre performances didn't happen. I want him to succeed, it's up to him to put the performances in every game he plays.

He was still taking corners after Marveaux had come on. I guess our corner motto is "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again".
