Like any other striker, he thrives on service. When someone like Barton is feeding you the ball rather than some 18 year old kid you're bound to score a few more goals. Neither would I. The animosity towards him yesterday was really surprising. He's lost the spine of the team (not his fault) but failed to even begin replacing it (entirely his fault).
