I got talking to someone recently who goes to matches. Barely ever been to games before this season and goes "cos it's something to do". Nothing wrong with that of course, but it's clear that SJP has a hell of a lot of these types of people now.
-
It's beyond a joke with the DJ now mind. I am actually surprised that Sky haven't had a word with the club because it's now affecting their coverage. At the end there, the players and interviewer couldn't hear each other because of the blaring music behind them. The home crowd are bang average and generic as fuck. The only way to start fixing it is to recognise the problem and address it, instead of making up bullshit excuses.
-
In games gone by it's been "we were nervous" and now for this one its "we were in shock". Quite impressive how people are coming up with excuses for bang average support. Think it's just best that everyone accepts that there are issues with our support that need addressing instead of making silly excuses. Being 5-0 up after 20 mins and SJP being flat is a new low. If the issue isn't addressed our home atmosphere is well on the way to being like Man City's. And we haven't even won owt yet. Said it before and will say it again. The fact that we have, for some reason, lost our songbook is making SJP go like a library far too often. That safe standing section can't come quick enough.

The home crowd had better be up for this tomorrow. None of this “we were nervous” crap. No excuses, just lift the team throughout.

I don't like it when everyone is lumping on us to win like this. They are very unpredictable and can still turn it on when they fancy it, and we all know that Kane & Son can win games on their own. In summary, I think this will be a lot tighter than most people are predicting.
-
Incredible that this lot will probably be back in a play-off spot tonight. Their season looked over just a couple of weeks ago.
-
Yeah I agree with this. The dippers will get at least 6 wins from their remaining games so I think we need to win 5 of our matches or we will get pipped.
-
I never knew that actually. I just saw a video of that Jamie Webster singing it in front of them and thought they had come up with it themselves.
-
Yeah that’s the one. Staggering really but I don’t think it was ever sung from a derogative perspective. Not that this made it remotely acceptable of course.
-
I absolutely hate that Hi Ho one that gets sung. Also that Mull of Kintyre shit from Forest. Absolute cringefest stuff.
-
Really? I might be thinking of a different song then. But the actual signing definitely put a big spoke in the wheel of our racist element back then.
-
Is the Allez Allez song not an original from the dippers? I have noticed that more fanbases are starting to plagiarise it, with Villa being one of the main culprits.
-
The Cunningham song was well intentioned but definitely of it’s time. His signing was the beginning of the end of the racist stuff from elements of our support though. And I’d say the Andy Cole signing effectively killed the racism stone dead.
-
Nope. The first one you mention used to be one of our biggest songs. Barely gets an airing now. Same with the Blaydon Races and also the plain old “Newcastle, Newcastle’ one. It’s really grim, and the only thing that can change it is by getting back the people who walked in sheer desperation over the Ashley era. What is your opinion of Villa’s modern support and songbook etc?
-
Yep, it’s fucking rancid. And reeks of the Championship/League One. Something you expect to hear at places like Stoke or Swindon.
-
I have always been proud that our support has been very different from the bland, generic shite that you see across the rest of the country. Unfortunately our fan base has now sunk to that level, with dire, unimaginative and plagiarised songs and one which can go missing if the chips are down. Never thought I would see the day, to be honest. There were some great songs in the 80s and 90s and also some terrible ones. For some reason, our current lot have decided to resurrect the terrible ones.
-
We have gone from being a fan base with one of the most varied songbooks to that which now only has three songs…the “Bruno in the middle”, “ei ei ei ei o” and “whose that team we call United”. And all three of those songs are completely cringeworthy, lower league-esq shite. Sad times, to be honest, considering how great everything else is about the club.

Villa fans need to hope that their club has big ambitions over the next 12 to 18 months or Emery will be away. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Boehly tried to prise him away in 6 weeks' time.
-
The fact that today is the first truly bad day we have had since the 2-1 loss to Wolves on 2nd October 2021 speaks volumes on how well Eddie has done in his time here. To go 18 months without a single truly poor performance and result is quite remarkable, especially considering our position when he took over. Not gonna lie though, it’s still gutting that he has finally been schooled in a game, and by Emery of all people. I bet he is fuming about it too. I was hoping we’d get a statement result against this lot as I can’t abide them, but the exact opposite happened. Admittedly, looking at the big picture it’s great for the league to see another big club emerge from the wilderness to challenge the establishment…. I just hope this isn’t the start of Villa becoming a bogey team for us while their current manager is there.
-
It has nothing to do with enjoying/not enjoying the derbies, or six in a row. It’s about thoroughly enjoying their misery and frustration of being a club forgotten about in the wilderness. That is much more satisfying than any derby win and long may it continue. Even if they come up, before a ball would be kicked in the derby, we already know without question that NUFC are bigger and better than them. We don’t need them to be promoted to have that particular question answered.
-
That's more to do with how clueless most football club owners are.
-
Worst post of the year contender right here.
-
The one time you want the Scouse Mackems to get a result and you just know that they won't do it.
-
By the way, on another note, I thought Man Utd's support was utter shit on Sunday. I really expected them to come up here and rinse us over the cup final but it never happened. They barely made a peep, which is exactly the norm for them when things don't go their way.

Lol, I'm "only" 51 bud, and was actually hearing tested earlier this year.....all good apart from some permanent tinnitus from standing next to too many large speakers at 90s raves. I don't think it's rose tinted glasses either. My memory isn't tricking me as I know what SJP was like at it's best...however I have to accept that there is a yearning for those match days to come back, whilst also realising that it's unlikely. But even in the "golden years" of the 90s, SJP didn't have a dedicated kop end/singing section so I am intrigued and excited to see what it could be like.
