I'm not complaining. I just can't see it work well or last long, if it were to happen, which I seriously doubt. If what mofo says is true, then can you see it end well if the stumbling block is final say on transfers? no same, not complaining, but it does stink of gullit to me after pardew let's have sexy football (gullit) and proven cup winner (souness), what could go wrong when he's got the likes of mike williamson to come striding out of defence with the ball?
-
Laudrup would be a fucking Shakespearean tragedy waiting to happen with us. Gullit all over again.
-
Also include Aarons who will be January 2017 key sale. pretty negative overall assessment that heza, then again it depends on what they're supposed to be "good enough" for

You and me both… I think he is a better option than Garde anyway. I would love to see us pay up whatever Mainz want and just get him in now. maximum 6 months left on any 'contract' agreement he had with Mainz, how f***ing much could that possibly be worth in compo, 250,000 Euro or something? it's a shame we can't spend anything at all ever due to the cast iron certainty of doing a leeds or portsmouth Think he was thought to be on about EUR 1 million - so I'd imagine something between EUR 250,000 - 500,000. About what we spent on Rob Elliot. I would really want us to get him in now - let him get a feel of the place and what he has to work with. was he not having a year off football as well or something though? decided he was taking a year away

This is literally what Keegan walked out for. Forcing players onto a manager is absolutely pointless imo, if he doesn't think the player will fit into his side, or will mix with the other squad members or whatever then you just have to look elsewhere. I can sort of see why West Ham forced Tevez and Mascherano onto Pardew like but 100% of other managers would have given an arm for that deal. You just need the right kind of manager, and for his role to be clear up front. With Keegan that was obviously not the case. I'm not saying there will never be disagreements, that's inevitable. But everyone has to be able to work together under the transfer policy the club has defined. My favourite model is the Southampton/Swansea one where the manager can change and the philosophy of the club remains the same. Obviously we lack the football philosophy to make that happen. Have those clubs ever openly stated that this is their policy though, or is it just a case of sensible managers taking on the good work done before them? I was under the impression Swansea started their current philosophy under Martinez. Martinez I think yeah. Presumably they just bought into his style and philosophy then Rodgers continued it and so on. It doesn't have to be a big drama like, but if we got a manager next who plays lush football and implements at all levels of the club achieving relative success on the pitch then it stands to reason it'd be something that the people in charge would want to continue. -

The point being that a bloke with hardly any influence, with his PR wings completely clipped and an inability to rely on support from those bellends above him means it's a role that cannot work. Can you imagine a Keegan or SBR accepting that they could only talk about x, y or z? Could you imagine either of them having to ask somebody to find them a player please? Accepting whichever player the club thought appropriate? They were the only managers in my lifetime who 'got' the club. Take engagement and influence way from them and they're no better or worse than anyone else. My point is that this whole system, which is designed for and driven by financial return, is bound for failure. Aye that's great if you find a Keegan or Robson, but not if you get a Dalglish, Souness, Allardyce, Roeder, Gullit ect. There's nowt at all wrong with the concept of a head coach as long as you go for a man who's Footballing philosophy is in line with the key people he's working with on transfers. We all know that our transfer policy has problems in that we are too focused on resale value. But you don't need to completely change the setup and bring in a traditional manager to fix that. Would Wenger have been the success he has if he came into Arsenal from Grampus Eight with a remit of stick to the bibs and cones and we'll do the rest? Same for Ferguson and all of those others who have created dynasties? How can you talk about medium/long term but only have a transitional role in the most important job in the club? They basically indicate that the role is interchangable. One in, one out. Old guy says the wrong thing, bring a new one in. Great. Do you thinks players respect/fear that? Edit - it tells you everything you should need to know about the modern day NUFC. Football second, profits first. i was about to reply to one of your earlier posts but you've made it even easier, your examples are the absolute exception to what happens when managers buy players in the PL, indeed much of ferguson's success was built on his overhaul of the manyoo youth system lets not forget i have no problem with the 'system' assuming the person in charge of coaching and selecting the team isn't left criminally under strength in certain areas - it was always a gripe of mine with pardew, he preferred to complain about what he didn't have rather than work with the players he did have and make them better old school british mentality and if we see the back of that then i'm all for it personally -

Could be something in that actually, perhaps they've made an offer to someone and E having to wait for an answer by the end of the week. Unlikely mind. -

this yes man thing is fucking stupid, with the limited role they're offering he won't even have to be a yes man -
arsenal signing tiote? wenger might as well pack his bags (unless he can literally work miracles on the training pitch)

They're basically looking for someone daft enough to operate within the narrow constraints they'll give them. Style of play, etc is a distant secondary consideration. What constraints? If you mean little control over transfers and your best players being sold to bigger clubs, this is ~99% of manager positions, especially if they are looking to France as rumoured (though rumours are often incorrect). Nah, like ALL HIS BEST PLAYERS GETTING SOLD ALL THE TIME marra Not sure if you are serious here MrM but I'm not entirely convinced about this statement tbh. So who have we sold, the list really isn't that long and it's not ALL our best players: (not going to take every example here like for example Best, Duff, Nolan, Barton, Routledge, Forster, Simpson etc. because these deals made sense) Bassong - Had a great one season we got 8m for him, we had just been relegated, in the end proved great business because he was s**** after he left us. Carroll - We got 35 million for the player, still to this day think that was a great deal for a oft injured player who had proved himself for half a season in the PL. Cabaye - 20 million for our best player, who clearly wanted to leave after going in the huff in the summer because we knocked back Arsenal. The only thing wrong with this deal was we never replaced him. Debuchy - 10 million for a player that been out most of the season and getting close to 30 looks pretty darn good now especially when we replaced him with a quality player who is much younger and for half the price, great business. That's all I can think of, 4 players, in all the time he's been here. I'm not trying to stick up for Ashley here but this line that gets thrown around isn't really backed up, and all really goes back to Carroll because he was a young Geordie lad and Cabaye because we never replaced our best player. I agree with Baba, there's no constraints really here that other managers in other parts of the world don't live with on a daily basis. Fucking hell -
what's the longest anyone can remember a PL club taking to appoint either a new manager or confirming a caretaker to the end of the season etc.?
-
I don't have a problem with them writing the season off again, IF and it's a big IF they have the right appointment lined up to take over in the summer. An appointment that will push the club forward. no, you can accept it if the deal is put in place and announced now but it fucking won't be and we all know it
-
if we had a proper local press they'd be asking why the club are treating ST holders with such disregard in effectively writing off this season (again) our fans need to read that shit in the paper before they'll actually realise it's happening

And that's why it makes no sense whatsoever that they had such a lob on for Pardew. Walking contradiction. Yeah you're right, if you took out the start of the interview where he's praising AP etc. then the rest of it reads like a criticism of him actually. -

While there's obviously a lot of shit there in that Charnley thing he's at least been pretty clear here: "First and foremost, they have to be a good coach and with a track record of developing players and giving young players a chance is important. For me, style of play is important. How they conduct themselves is also important as the head coach will play a key part in how the club is perceived through his conduct on and off the field." He's basically describing the anti-Pardew there. Actions speak louder than words mind. -

People in this frame of mind have all too quickly forgotten just how wretched Pardew's tenure was. I don't care if we know nothing until next season as long as they get the right man in. This is a piece of p*ss compared to only watching NUFC because I wanted us to get hammered. I would be quite happy to wait until the summer as long as they name who is coming in now so that we have something to look forward to. It's no good waiting only to find out we can't get who we're after then and be in the same situation as we are now only months later when we've written another season off. Aye, if the announcement is just that there's no new manager until the summer then it's just a massive pisstake on the back of countless other pisstakes edging the club ever nearer to Ashley raking back enough money so he might fuck off. Always assuming they even bother to make an announcement that is. -
People tried to activate last year. Too many frigging groups tried to take a lead role in the proceedings and ended up fucking everything up though. I find it depressing how someone can summarise the Cardiff game like this. I prefer to see it as a worthy first go at making a difference. SackPardew probably wouldn't have had the effect it had, had the Cardiff event not implanted the idea of fan-wide protest. Yes, there were organisational issues with egos in play, but it wasn't a fuck up in the slightest. is Noodles not referring to the Hull game there? Cardiff was surely more organic and didn't suffer from the fan group bullshit

Mate of mine teaches Beardsley's daughter how to drive. Says the hold up is due to television commitments by Garde. He is free to sign after next weekend's games.
