Europe: would you take, er, 5th place right now?

There is no wrong direction or right direction. Is Perch a step in the right direction? There is no problem targeting older players as long we hedge the risk presented by them and supplement it with other types of signings. It is just foolish to pass up signing a talented footballer because he does not resemble other recent signings. James Perch is a 25 year old and was arguably brought in as defensive cover for various positions. Whilst he's turned out to not be a very good player, the intent of the signing was very good. Campbell, the other bad signing this season, was also a good one in theory as he'd cover us should we get injuries and could aid the younger players with his experience. I also think there were talks of him taking up a coaching role with the club once he'd retired. Carrick is an aging player on the decline with a very likely high wage for the one position we actually do have enough players for. It'd be a silly signing and one in the wrong direction.

Carrick would be a massive step in the wrong direction when we've finally (apparently) heading in the right on when it comes to our signings.

I just wanted to say "OVERHEAD KICK GALORE" tbf.

I think it's highly more likely that we'll get additions if we do well (Europe well) than if we fight relegation. Especially as it'd be more exposure for Ashley's Sports Direct and what not. -

To be honest, what's the point of football if you don't want to fight to be among the best? I don't ever want to witness Newcastle becoming a club that will forever be happy just not being relegated. Obviously this season and the next few are exceptions, but I don't get why some people seem to not want us to play in Europe if we qualify. I see it as a privelige getting to play there. Obviously the squad would need adding to, but I also think there's a bigger chance of new additions if we actually do well. -
Eight points up, eight points down. That's pretty much exactly the same distance, so yes, it's probably as much of a chance right now.

Bump. Fuck that other thread.

Bump the Champions League-o-meter. -
I though the ref was quite good, bar the decision of how much time to add on. 'Fell' for every dive going, sadly. Warned VDV countless times, but did nothing else. I agree he should've given VDV a yellow, or worse as he kept doing it. But he didn't "fall" for every dived, he waved him up and let play continue, which was a good thing, no?

I understand what you mean, but that's none sense tbh. If he had passed to Lovenkrands, you wouldn't be sat there saying that he doesn't have the striker's instinct to shoot. Strikers are there to put the ball in the back of the net. Whether by scoring themselves or providing chances is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Absolutely, I don't give a toss about strikers instinct, there's a time to shoot and a time to pass and when you have a player to pass who will then be shooting at an open net then you should be passing. Look at my picture, it'd not have happened.

Shame we have the depth of a reality show. That's why I'll settle for the UEFA Cup instead of the Champions League. We'd be up there pushing for fourth now if we'd have the three points.
-
In short, if you're blaming anyone blame Loven for stopping his run. Ranger was in his full right to shoot, if Loven hadn't stopped his run he'd be at the back post slotting Ranger's missed shot in.
-
Perch is not in a good position either? Stood unmarked on the 6 yard box with a free pass ffs He's coming in really fast, he'd not have composure to slot it in. You can't see that in the pic, though. There's no goalie, how much composure do you need? Someone else than James Perch.
-
If he'd not have stopped running he'd have been at the back post, I concur.

For what exactly? for being a glory hunting cunt looking for his first goal, when Lovenkrands is stood alone in the 6yd box. A tap across and its 2-0. You could see half our team point straight towards Lovenkrands before he tried to score from behind the goal line. The one where he took it around Dawson? Come off it man, he's entitled to go for goal when he's made himself an opening like that. aye but if he had half a brain we would have 3pts. No, we wouldn't. Loven had stopped his run and there was a Spurs defender inbetween them ahead of Loven. Much greater chance it'd have been cleared than if he went for glory.
