  1. All the sound ones want him to stay. Don't get personal here dude.
  2. I think his actions over the past few months have shown that he lacks leadership. He has desire but it is mostly self-centred. I would be happier if he left as I don't think he's as interested in the team's future as his own, and with so many new players to bed in, he's shown little interest in helping them acclimatise. Agree. It's a ridiculous dilemma that we as a club have a habit of creating. How do you deal with a situation where the most potent attacking player at the club could let you down at any time? Bellamy comes to mind tbh. Whatever is said about JB his talent or something close to it needs replacing, and there's a debate in itself on that topic.
  3. Like all things to do with NUFC this is not "noir ou blanc". We may come to some sort of peace agreement with him but right now I don't like the idea of him going through a season with us just playing out the final year of his contract. He looks for attention the whole time and it is a load of merde waiting to happen imo. He wants a great deal on a Bosman, we want him to play at the top of his game. Interests align nicely. Sorry - I've not seen too much evidence of interests aligning nicely. I've said it before on here he is a very good footballer but sadly he is an attention whore.

  5. And he's loving every minute of it.
  6. And thus Baz Tosh makes a somewhat unexpected (and so far unexplained) bid to enter the Toon hall of fame.
  7. And the agent (if that is what he is) himself says the approach was made behind his back. Christ knows what's going on...
  8. I'm just hoping it isn't already over.
  9. A stunning statement tbh - so the stuff about the cigar, the various incidents of violent behaviour and the jail sentence were all down to guesswork and bullshit and didn't happen.
  10. If there is any reluctance from other clubs I doubt it is based on footballing ability (he's good enough for most clubs in this country imo). It's more down to the fact that he has such a formidable record of behaving like a class A dick. With Joey it isn't just a bit of bad press or an occasional lapse it is always a full blown saga with a few juicy add ons, all of which gives him the attention that he cannot live without. Clubs are going to seriously question whether they want to run the risk of that happening again on their doorstep, and managers would be wary of having to deal with it.
  11. i respectfully disagree. it's more than a little short sighted to believe that because someone's paid well they should keep their opinions to themselves, and that goes for anyone not just footballers. I'm not sure about you but if I wanted a footballer to be a 'role model' which i'm not sure about anyway! Then I'd certainly want my kids to look up to the sort of person who speaks out on what they perceive as injustices or wrong doing, not the sort of person who takes the money and shuts up, that's an appalling example for any kid. Sportsmen? Noble purpose? What are you talking about? They're paid to play football, that's it. I think there are channels where unhappy players can vent their anger, but it shouldn't be on twitter or in the press. If you're unhappy, it should be discussed behind closed doors. absolutely. seems unlikely though doesnt it? the players will know as well as us it's pointless talking to pardew about it. So go above Pardew's head then. If I'm unhappy with something and my boss doesn't do anything to rectify it, I speak to his boss. yeah So you really don't think this whole Barton thing has gone up to Pardew's boss? all i was doing was making a point about speaking out vs saying nothing because of 'the wages you're on' And I was just responding to the point about speaking to Pardew's boss, who I think has been involved in this since the beginning.

  13. Looking forward to it. It's available on line. Just says a senior source at the club thinks there's a possibility of peace breaking out and Barton playing out his contract.
  14. Was a brilliant signing for us at the time, and made a huge difference to our promotion effort. Good luck
  15. No - transfer fees don't appear in a P&L account. They do appear in a cash flow statement though. Keegan's tribunal costs were in the 08/09 accounts. You have maybe overestimated wages (although there was also Campbell) but "other costs" seem to run at about £25m per annum. I'm also not sure our income from tv, matchday and sponsorship would get to £107m but we'll all know the answer to that one in a few months time. The exact "surplus" is a bit of speculation and fwiw I agree with you that it was a decent £number in 10/11.
  16. I didn't. I had just thought Stifler was giving it out tonight.
  17. Douglas will drop hints all evening so that might help figure it out a bit, Barnetta i reckon Yeah sounds like he's been on the radar. I think Barton has been in the exit lounge for a while now. There might have been a thought that Stephen Ireland might replace him but he was barking mad, injured and not good enough. Barnetta is a credible replacement imo.
  18. For capital repayment yes, but these types of loans are rarely repaid and it's all about the interest (usually charged at someo eye-watering amount). If he waives outright the interest payable for the year, then this will improve the P&L as it reduced interest costs. In turn this increases the corporation tax for the period (although past losses would likely wipe this out anyway). What Ashley could do is choose to roll the interest into the capital PIK-style, that way he can elect to pay interest in cash or 'waive' that payment- but as the payment increases the size of the liability, this is still a deduction for corporation tax purposes. Interest free isn't it? I could well be wrong, I don't have the accounts to hand. Of course he can amend the terms whenever he likes, so the logic still holds. As Colo says the loans are specifically stated in the accounts as being interest free and they are structured in a formal agreement. So I think interest is a non issue tbh.
  19. You've missed out a couple of costs: http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/5264/newcastlepl.jpg Matchday and Commercial was not 60M but 58.3M, this went down to 48.4M in 2009 so let's split the difference at 53M. Amortisation was 18M in 2008 - I'd expect this to be less - let's say 10M. "Other expenses" in 2008 amounted to 28M. Plus depreciation/net interest. Still, that is a fair profit. I'd guess that Ashley was trying to put you in a position where you don't have to sell people for 35M to break even. I'd have thought you were there already. Won't be much use if you get relegated again. I simply cannot believe that you won't be buying at least two or three more players (presuming Enrique and Barton go). FWIW I'd keep Enrique to the end of his contract - with your squad so thin in certain places and so "unknown quantity" in others you need the stability. It's not as if there are plenty of left-backs out there, we've got Danny Rose as our back-up FFS. I made it a bit less as well but tbf I think he was talking about cash profit rather than accounting profit so amortisation wouldn't count but spend/receipts on players would. I think we would all like you to be right about there being some good players still to arrive, but rampant optimism is in short supply at present. I really can't form a judgement on what Ashley is doing until the full plot unravels. I'm not bothered what he does with excess cash as long as, somehow, our squad keeps on improving (and thats a much debated issue unsurprisingly).
  20. Don't we also have to consider the fact that in the next few seasons we'll probably go back to making a loss and budget for that? Because we won't sell another player for £30m I mean. I don't know much about business accounting, so humour me please! We should be able to avoid losses if we stay in the Premiership and run on our current model. Right, interesting. Is that even without a big player sale like Carroll? Yes I reckon.
  21. which strictly speaking he hasn't as long as the club owe him money (discounting the original purchase of course) Agree. This is the very debate I predicted on another thread Taking cash out can only be done by dividends, salary, interest on a loan or renting an asset (eg a warehouse) to the club. As at June 2010 Ashley had done none of that. Although Del Llambias is pulling a salary of about £158k, which isn't much in the overall scheme of things.
  22. Thought so and that will make is less likely that he's taken it as the club can claim as much interest as he personally could. Not sure I know what you mean there Mick. Ashley taking a repayment of his loan doesn't affect our corporation tax because it doesn't affect the profit or loss for the year. He wouldn't pay tax on receiving it either. It is simply a cash transaction.
  23. How is Corporation Tax calculated? Is it over the tax year or do they take past losses into account? Past losses can be used to offset current and future profits.
