  1. Slightly off topic this, but relevant to games that took place yesterday. On train back from Wolves, a Tyneside based Man U "fan" sat across the aisle from me. During a phone conversation, he was telling someone how he had been getting stick from York fans on their way back from Stockport. "At least we support our local team" etc. Quite right too. His comment on the phone was "It's like following Whitley Bay. Granted, support your local team, but you wouldn't travel from York to see them at Stockport, would you?"

Well yes you would mate. It's called being a real football fan.

  2. It's OK, they've finished laying their new playing surface.  Should ensure a guaranteed 100% home record.

That's some size writing pad that piece of lined paper is from. It's even got the holes for the ring binders.

  3. Aye, i remember the article. I remember being puzzled and thinking i'd never heard of them, even though i was brought up fairly nearby, in West Denton. I'd heard of all the other groups mentioned, because gang rivalry was quite bad in those days.

  4. Wearsides quote - "Over the last year Newcastle fans have developed a real obsession with Sunderland and it's something that has only developed since you got relegated."

Strange that. It's Safc fans who go to the trouble to make reference to NUFC on banners etc by adding FTM. It's mackems who feel it necessary to wear colours when using our cities attractions, eg airport, decent shopping centres, when they probably wouldn't wear them if they were shopping in the bridges or going to the air show. Incidently, you do know wearside, that those planes take off from Newcastle?

SAFC sing more toon related songs than songs to back their own side, and success is measured by results/league finish v Newcastle.

Look at the forums. While we condense what we have to say about SAFC into one thread, Sunderland have numerous posts in numerous threads about us.

  5. In Barcelona from Aug 29th. My daughter loves Barca and i said we'd do the stadium tour. Then, luckily, at least we thought anyway, the home game with Villareal got moved a day to when we are there. Shelled out £104 on 2 tickets, before the players vote to go on strike the very next day. Typical.   VI, is there anything i can do with my unused tickets if the strike goes ahead?  :frantic:

  6. Thought we were in for a cricket score once the 2nd went in but the goals dried up despite plenty of possesion. It was one of the most comfortable single goal victories i've ever seen however, with Ashington scoring very late on. I though Moyo was decent, showing good close control and an ability to get out of tight situations.

The bairn got a photo with Sammy, so she was happy.

  7. That was a cracking finish by the dolphin. I would get him signed, Neil.

If the dolphin scores we're in the pool!

Off to Barcelona on Aug 29th and ive noticed that the home game with Villareal has been rescheduled for that day. Reckon i'll get tickets VI? Had a go on-line but not released yet apparently.

  8. Regardless of the reasons for the Barton situation, the fact is we're losing a decent player and the squad is weaker. I have no confidence in the ability of NUFC to bring in anyone of note to strengthen it. I hope i'm wrong.

This personally is the least anticipated start to a season i can remember for a long while.

  9. Walked to and from Leeds station for yesterdays game and happily it was calm on route with not much in the way of hostility. Had a bit of a wait for the train back though and while we waited, the police started running out of the station. About 6 gremlin types came in, one with his shirt ripped and another looking a bit bloodied. There's always the odd one or two eh?

Can't understand it myself. Just go to the game then come home surely. Madness!

  10. If he wants to go, then you have to wonder WHY he wants to go. It's my guess that he just doesn't feel there's owt to hang around for under Ashley. It seems we've a frustrated, disgruntled group of players. We've became a club that's unable to attract decent, established players, but a club also determined to lose the decent players it has. I say established players because those signings new to the English game  might turn out to do well, let's hope so, but we need established premier league experience to compliment them.

  11. They won't make that much money out of it this year, but i bet next year they do. For those of us who have paid for the 10year deal thing i bet next year a new away membership comes out that we have to pay for. It's all a big con.

Every individual has a point where they decide that the cost of watching football simply isn't any longer value for money. Mine personaly is when the clubs we visit charge £40 plus for a ticket. If they DO bring in a costly away memberhip as you suggest, then that might be too much and the last straw for yourself. Each to their own. I agree that it seems fans are being gradually out-priced from the game, but if i REALLY wanted to get to away games,  i'd do my best to find the £25 for a membership. I can understand people not being happy with the principle, and unfortunately they're suffering for the behaviour of others. It's a bit like motorists having to pay higher car insurance because of others making false claims. Again, you could argue, why punish good/honest drivers for those that crash or make false claims.

  12. Just been wondering about the Leeds away match. I'm neither a member nor a season ticket holder but I've already purchased my tickets for the Leeds away. Surely they cant apply this new ruling retrospectively?  :undecided:

I'm pretty sure they said that it wouldn't affect anyone with a Leeds ticket. I think you'll be ok.
