  1. When you think about it, all you need to stay up is average a point per game. While it's not gauranteed, and it would be brown trouser time at the end of the season, 38 points would be about enough.

  2. The man has been a fantastic servant to Newcastle United. However, he wasn't particularly great as a manager last season and he has been destructive to the teams goal this season. I think that is it really. I don't think anyone should be absolved from questioning because of what they accomplished in the past. Although, I do wonder what the purpose of starting this thread was besides starting another tiresome argument.

KK wasn't a great manager last season? We may well have went down if he hadn't have taken over from SA.

We may go down this season, and no doubt some will try and blame that on Keegan for leaving. The true reason for his departure will come out one day, but i know who i think was in the right, and that's KK.

I'll hold my hands up and admit it if i'm proved otherwise too.

  3. Man United, easily. Followed by Liverpool.

Whoever said the Mackems wants shot, not being biased there but their away support is poor in every way except numbers.

 Jesus wept!!! you talk s****. we`ve sold out every away game bar one this season (except numbers) you got this right.

so what makes you think the noise levels or songs are lower\worse than other clubs?

Didn't look like you sold out at Blackburn. Was that the one you meant?

You are a bit overly obsessed with Newcastle, and your songs reflect that. Yourselves and Boro say we're s**t, yet it seems that your idea of a good season is when you beat/finish above us.

We took our allocation and more, between 6 and 7 k down there,
You are a bit overly obsessed with Newcastle
in your minds only!! you should try reading your own boards and see how many references there are about us.

most fans cringe at the anti Mag songs TBH,ok at the derby but other than that theres no need for them.

and by the way if you think because im on a Mags board this implys obsession, count how many Mags visit the SMB on a daily basis

I believe Im the only Mackem that gets on here regular, but then I surf most of the football boards. O0

Really? It's just that there was a shot of the Darwen End on match of the day, which seemed to make the top tier look  filled only down one half of it.

Not getting at you here, because it's been mentioned by many in this thread, but what has sitting/standing got to do with having a good away following?

Both Newcastle/Sunderland have great numbers at most away games, but i don't get the relevance of sitting/standing.

  5. When I used to go to a few Reading games I was very impressed by the Chelsea fans, maybe just because it is quite local and not far for them to travel.

Went to Reading the other season, when we played there. When we were sat outside that bar at Reading station, all you seen was a stream of glory-hunters heading for the train into London to watch Chelsea. No wonder there were plenty of them there for Reading v Chelsea.

  6. can people not move on

that's the problem with this club, everyone thinks keegan etc can do miracles, when in fact he's a quitter ffs

Aye, we can move on. We're all waiting for a suitable replacement for KK, and i hope we get it. In the meantime, i don't see any harm in getting away from the gloom of being a current Newcastle fan, and looking back on happier times.

KK had us enjoy many a good season.

As OM pointed out, Keegan's history. That's as maybe, but he's also an important part of Newcastle Uniteds' history. It shouldn't be forgotten.

  7. Rush Travel is now a Sunderland Away Game coach. ( Dont know if this was always the case )

I know , Green Mountain Travel are really good , we used them to go to Liverpool last year , cheap and allow you to have a tiddly wink on the coach aslong as it was all off before we got into Lpool etc  .

I once hired a mini-bus from green mountain, and they were very easy going. Had no complaints at all. Don't know what sort of coaches they have though.

  8. part of robsons reign as manager era was better than keegan era as a player.

Bobby did well as boss, for which i'm thankful.

However, when KK signed for us as a player, it was a world superstar joining MY club. A club that had struggled for years with a team of relative nobodies.

Crowds doubled. The buzz around the City was immense. I thought i was dreaming when he ran out of that tunnel in OUR black and white stripes. Unforgetable!

  9.

And I have my reasons for doing so.

Keegan give me the best time as a fan following this club, we'd have been rotting if it wasn't for this man, no doubt about it. He gave most of my family two of the best times of supporting this club. He made this club and it's fans feel how it should feel, he is one of us, he understands us, he was one of the true romantics left in a game ruined by money, a game which has forgot where it has come from and who put it where it is, that's right the fans. Keegan understood all of this, Keegan believed in his players playing the right way. Everyone of his players had his ultimate confidence, they all enjoyed playing for him, as he enjoyed having them play for him. They all understood what Keegan is, a man of the game. I understand what Keegan is, he was never the Messiah he was made out to be, but he came in pretty close.

Thank you for everything you've done for this club Kevin Keegan. The game as proven on your final departure has taken a turn in the wrong direction, you could see this, you tried to fight this. But ultimately you lost your battle. I still love you, I won't ever forget what you've done for this football club and this city.

A true Newcastle United legend if there ever was one.

    Well said.

I agree. Easily my best days of following the Toon have been with KK at the club, both as player and manager.

"He probably won't be fit for the start of the season but he'll be pretty near."

    LIAR.

Maybe, just maybe, that was Keegans genuine but mistaken out-look on the situation at the time of comment. Why should he lie about it?

Straying off topic, i know, but if we're pointing the finger at dis-honest staff at the club then look no further than the owner and his chums.

Sorry, but it boils my p**s that some people think KK was some kind of wolf in sheeps clothing who set out to harm the club. The club that i believe he has a lot of affection for

that he abandoned at least 3 times  :iamatwat:

He must feel something for the club, to return each time.

  12. The only points Owen has put on the board this season was against Bolton and that was a flukey win. The West Ham and Blackburn goals were irrelevant.

I agree that its only, so far, a couple of games where his form has been acceptable but if it continues, i'd like to give him and Owen together a chance, especially if Martins is going to turn in a performace like at Sunderland rather than Villa. His form is giving us striking options that we didnt have without Viduka (with possibly a bit more mobility).

Owens goals v W Ham/Blackburn may not have brought points, but that was more to do with our failings at the back. Owen did HIS job.

I don't see how anyone can prefer Shola ahead of Martins.

IMO Shola is slow, poor in the air for someone his size, where as Martins has speed, can beat defenders with a quick turn and hit a ball properly. Despite Sholas' improvement/efffort, i think if you're picking our best 11 you'd pick Martins before Shola.

  13. Personally, the only time i will set foot in Sunderland is when a Newcastle united X1 play there. SAFC fans go on about their hate for Newcastle but are only too willing to shop and party here, spending their money into the bargain. Hypocrasy in my opinion.

  14. Never understood fans boasting/arguing about attendences, but at the same time criticising 'glory hunters' and the like.

Clubs care about attendences because people through the gate equals money in the bank, but I don't get why fans are so hung up about it.

I for one admitt to being irritated by an away contingent no bigger than a mini bus full, singing "where were you when you were s**t"? etc. Man City fans in particular seem to think they're the best fans in the land. We know the truth about how we've put up with thin and thin for years.

I just don't understand why having more fans is necessarily better. We complain when people support a team just when they're doing well, but we also complain when they have small crowds.

Maybe it shouldn't be an issue. Just saying that it bothers me personally when fans of some clubs criticise our attendances. I can't help but feel annoyed by it. It may be an irrational feeling, but there you go, that's just me. Everyone to their own however.

  16. Even in the West Brom game, yes we were diabolical in the second half, but we were still in the lead and had done well in the first half to be in that situation, but the atmosphere got so edgy when we were struggling, it couldn't have made things any easier for the players.

Because we've seen them throw games away so many times over the years. Personally, that's why i was nervous. NUFC have brought me up to expect the worst unfortunately.

  17. Coin throwing is definatley unacceptable.

As for the pitch invasion, what did you expect them to do after 28 years without a win?

A polite ripple of applause at the final whistle?

Regardless of the circumstances, you're simply not allowed on the pitch. If it happens regularly, like it does down there, the club should be punished. There is no defence for the actions of the Mackems. Rules have been broken repeatedly.

I may be bitter and biased, but i do think something should be done.

  18. What's Ashley got to do with this?.

He's ripped the club apart and turned it into a national joke by  forcing out a perfectly good manager who loves the club.

    he didn't force keegan out.

Him and his system made Keegan's job untenable. Pretty close enough.

That's the biggest load of bullshit I've read in a long time. Just face facts, Keegan is a bottler and it's time to get over it.

It's only my opinion that Ashley forced KK out. I'm more than willing to get over KK not being here, if only we could. Because of the ALLEDGED treatment of KK and the way the club is REPORTED to operate, no decent player or manager will come to this club until it changes hands.

That's why we've ended up with Joe Kinnear. Has he been top of our wanted list ever? He's only here because we're desperate. At the same time, i wish him the best of luck.

After all i couldn't care less if Osamah Bin Laden was in charge, just as long as my club was winning matches.

  19. I hope that any person found seen throwing seats, coins, bottles, cans and incredibably a drain from the pitch!! at fellow humans get banned for life.  Let us not get into, this was Sunderland orientated.  Yes, they've fans invaded the pitch and were provocotive, but for 2 sets of chav's hooligans and hooligan wannabies to set about each other because they live 10 miles away from each other in the name of football is total bollox.

As for the cowards that threw coins or bottles at innocent fans then you should be ashamed.  To the guy in front who was struck with pound coin in the temple, you know it hurt why retaliate by hurling anything you had in your pockets at innocent people.

Ive had it with away games!!  I find days with chavs shouting abuse at opposing fans with no interest in football a growing trend.  The football is something that go's on in the background these days..........

Iam I just gettin old or has football just died??  RIP

Give over, I've been to Sunderland when we've had hundreds of our fans fighting in the home end, today didn't look good but it's been a lot worse.

That's going back at least a decade, and the majority of Toon fans went in the home end simply because the away end was sold out. If you're attacked when you're in there, what are you going to do but defend yourself.

I see what Eires' no 1 is saying. I mean songs like Keano w**ks his dog are pathetic, as much as i dislike SAFC.

  20. Before the mackem match we were happy with him...

Get off his back, not our fault Keegan left us in the s*** and have such s**** backroom staff. Hes come in and trying to do a decent job.

A win on Tuesday and next Monday then we will be saying hes great!? you either like him or hate him, dont get on his back because of one f***ing match.

We probably will be saying he's great IF we win the next 2 games, but we have to win those games 1st. Hope we're loving him next week.
