But we were told that a fee had been agreed and that he was on his way! That s*** aint fair. I can live with ITK bollocks and paper talk, but when it's something as tangible as a quote from their chairman saying that it was pretty much a done deal it just stings that little bit more.

This thread sums up futility in all of it's glory.

He got fired from Southampton youth academy for alleged burglary of the local area. At first quite a few people on here were slagging him off infact.
-
Thank fuck it isn't then.

I found some horrible ones when I was looking through the old threads about Martins in 2006/2007. Wasn't fuel poured on the fire due to the fact there was a player called Obafemi who had been around at the same time as Babayaro? Can't remember that, although it'd certainly explain a lot!
-
Oh yeah, it was all rubbish. I think it all derived from an error on the NFA website where Oba had the wrong age.. or something, it was ages ago. Not sure on that particular source, found that and a few others floating around forums and suchlike. Couldn't find the original threads on here.

I remember a number of articles like this knocking about at the time. Obviously it's all just paper talk, but it was definitely written about around that time and this whole debate held up the transfer for a while.
-
Oh aye I reckon he's older than 24 or whatever but I just remember that transfer dragging on and on. Weren't the Nigerian squad all meant to have their DNA tested at one point or something?
-
I remember you loving that he was described as 'the Argentinian Power Station' or similar. Funny how things stay with you. Like the Oba one where Roeder spent ages looking into his real age because Babayaro reckoned he was older than time itself.
-
I love that Emres' departure was confirmed by a picture of him looking fatter than ever in a Fener shirt on a terrace somewhere.

The Beye one barely registered with me. Didn't reckon it was going to happen and when it did it was a nice little surprise. The Colo one felt like forever and people were still moaning about us not signing him quick enough when he was sat in the directors box. Crazy stuff. It was the Modric one that killed me. All that hope and excitement for it to be shit all over late at night by the Spurs official website. Then the cunt scored against us. Fuck sake.

I think we'll get relegated as of now, but it's really impossible to say until after the next transfer window has closed. We just don't seem to be able to produce goals, despite maintaining possession and unless something happens to change this (which definitely seems to be happening in some capacity behind the scenes) then I can't see us staying up. Really hope Chris pulls something out of the bag though. He's a good manager that has got us back into the premiership and doesn't deserve anywhere near half the stick that he gets.
-
I'd rather have Cruz or Bellamy than Jo. He just seems to awkward on the ball.
-
Going to get dicked.. but we'll score a goal. I'm going to say an undeserved 4-1, we'll play well and in reality the game should have been 1-1 or 2-1.

I bet I could find more examples where Jonas has come back and tracked the run. Protecting the full back is one of the stronger aspects of his game. Do you reckon it's because the full-back in this case is a very good player? I wonder how his game would be if he played on the right, as Enrique and Jonas rely on each other quite a bit.
-
I agree with your post, except for the bit in bold.. I reckon that goal was more the fault of the defenders, as Routledge was dealing with Whittaker on his own and Miller has lost his marker. From that distance there wasn't much Harper could have done about it really. Although I do agree with the sentiment that he is fading rapidly and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.
-
I can see him being played in place of either jonas or routledge in a 4-4-2 or replacing Nolan, with Nolan then replacing Guthrie and partnering Barton in the middle. Ideally I want to see him in the middle, creating chances but it's nice to know we'd have a quality winger for the inevitable injuries to our starters. Assuming we sign him of course
-
No, just not consistent with his quality.

He would be the best player in our squad by an absolute chasm. If he was that good, he wouldn't be signing for Newcastle. To be honest I'm suprised the likes of Wigan and Sunderland haven't gone for him. Birmingham as well it would seem would rather sign N'Zogbia. Perhaps the fact that they haven't speaks volumes. This could be a player who thinks he is entitled to be at a much higher standard than he is, put in a series of complacent ineffective performances, and subsequently wreck the entire team. This is a massive gamble, we could get survival from this, but we could get yet another massive car crash. Bore off. I'd be very happy to be proven wrong on this one, but its a case of seeing what happens in 12 months rather than everyone telling me now that I'm wrong! Whatever, I reckon you just like to create arguments and be overly negative or have the an opposite opinion for the sake of it. The fact that a highly rated player that can play in the middle of the park and is the exact creative outlet we've been crying out for since the 06-07 season or earlier doesn't appear to compute with you. Oh yeah, the fact that he's on loan as well means that there's no long-term commitment in case he does fail.. in fact the loan could in theory be cancelled if he is a disruption to the survival campaign, so there isn't really much of a risk at all. Like I said, you're whinging for the sake of it. Bore off.

Where did you see that Dave? Impressed with that line-up, nice to see Guthrie & Barton in the middle.
