It has to be him and Joelinton in a midfield two, with three attackers and Wood up top. Him and Joe would perfectly complement one another, Joe to break up attacks and keep composure and Bruno to thread through balls to runners. It's quite exciting - Wilson would love this type of service too. Might see Willock get a few goals and may even give Miggy a new lease of life. I think whilst Wood is here Fraser will be starting though, for that crossing ability.

I'd actually like to see Almiron revived, perhaps Bruno coming in can do that. Bruno and Joe playing and protecting behind in a 4-2-3-1 Dubs Trippier - Schar - Burn - Targett Bruno - Joelinton ASM - Willock - Almiron Wood Ideally, Almiron would even play in the middle and there's someone who can come into play on the wing, whilst Willock's fresh rangy legs would be a great option from the bench. Wood would be a good hold up player for those runners from midfield to play into.

If Willock can rediscover his form, it negates the need for Lingard

He does in that it's EXACTLY what we needed and he's a top performer etc. But he's not that big name that makes you think oh wow these guys really are here to stay. Trippier you could make more of a case for - the fact he left Spanish champions etc - but RB's aren't the sexiest of statement signings... Just being greedy I guess!

Wouldn't get Kurzawa AND Targett, same position so one or the other - and the fact Targett is lined up for his medical confirms the choice

Viduka when at Leeds had 4 seasons in a row where he had double figures, like Wood - at a much more attacking team. At Boro, injury hit, he scored 7. 16 and 19 goals next 3 seasons. (He was 29 when he went there). So a similar-ish situation. Wood is probably half the player of Viduka but even if he only got even half of that, it is money well spent.

Nketiah could either be Wellbeck (and therefore struggle for goals his whole career) or could be a Sturridge. At this stage it's pretty low risk to test him out.

A £10m loan fee for six months... for Lingard?! I'm sure Chelsea would accept £10m to lend us Lukaku for six months (not that they need the money) - but anyone mid-table who are safe. Abroad - literally take your pick. You could get pretty much anyone's first-choice striker with the exception of the big CL boys - but most would accept the hit for the season for a £10m payout... if it means they get the player back again in the summer. Ridiculous amount of money to pay for a loan... so if we're willing to pay that, get someone world class for it!

Agreed As we've seen before, legs in the middle (e.g. A N'Golo Kante type) is literally the difference between being at the bottom end one season and finishing top the next season. It would transform us more than any other position.

The team lacks quality, is ageing, has confidence issues and lacks fitness, for sure. But the biggest thing it’s lacked this season, is luck. Finest margins make a huge difference, and the entire narrative would look different. Brentford, Howes first game, buzzing atmosphere then lose him to Covid. Then Darlow mistakes etc. 2 points gone. Countless incorrect VAR calls this season. clark getting sent off against Norwich. There’s been more positive performances than negative ones under Howe. Even under Bruce, Watford away should have been a win. in terms of losses there’s been 10, 4 less than even Villa. The problem is lack of wins, but the draws show we haven’t been getting hammered like previous relegation seasons. the point of this post is that we’ve had a tough old season so far, and we’ve contributed to our own downfall with silly errors, but we’ve also lacked luck. I’d say, we had two more wins instead of the draws we’d not be saying these are dead certs to go down, instead that we’ve got enough quality to get out of it. so perspective is important and I do think we’ve got enough to get out of it, especially with key additions. It’ll go to the wire, though!!

I don’t like the idea of all these 25m+ signings. The odd 5-10m signing would be most welcome, the likes of Ginter, Sule, Taglifico whos contracts are running out. The squad needs to be padded out with quality all over. We could even tempt them with Demba Ba like release clauses if relegation does happen.

Honestly a six month stint to save us from relegation would be the stuff dreams are made of and would make him an all time legend. Probably my favourite NUFC player of all time, in terms of how much I enjoyed his style of football. He could defo do a job like 34 year old Peter Beardsley did in the early Keegan years, right?
