Well why can’t they start on women’s games or non league, work themselves up to the top? IMO they’ve been skyrocketed right to the top based on gender alone. I agree that they’re highly scrutinized and under the microscope but they’re not succeeding and living in the moment, they’re folding under the pressure and the little things you hear on football commentary aren’t there like anecdotes or analysis. They’re usually two to three seconds behind the play but what? I’m supposed to feel sorry for them? Perhaps they’d be more comfortable at a slower paced game like women’s football for instance.

If they were good, I wouldn’t say anything but the quality is just not there. I remember one episode of The Debate and Geoff Shreves had to tell Alex Scott “you can’t just sit there, you have to contribute to discussion” because she didn’t know what was going on. That was five years ago, though and she’s better now. This is affirmative action. It’s not based on merit. It’s based on quota or something.

It’s the best of two evils. Can’t stand female commentators. Most of them sound like pre pubescent boys, they’re placated to by the main commentator when they stumble over their word(which they do A LOT). They simply can’t keep up with what’s going on on the pitch. Why can’t they just commentate on women’s matches? If they were good, I wouldn’t say anything but they’re simply not good enough for the job. So much silence when they’re commentating. Feel like they need to be poked with a stick to be reminded that this is the time you need to make a comment.

I’ve always felt like was one of those “lucky to be there” squad player types. Bit like Mike Williamson. Been there too long and probably accepts whatever wages he’s given and never kicks up a fuss.
