I generally agree with that. In my own case, I’ve never really felt “at home” with MLS or the U.S. soccer environment in general. It hasn’t really historically been a working class or everyman sport here, and has more of a well-off, suburban, try-hard feel to it. That’s changing a bit, with the size of the Latino population. It’s also probably colored by some of my own personal sentiment/bias. But I just have never been able to feel an affinity for D.C. United. (Which brings up another pet peeve: U.S. soccer’s nonsensical pilfering of “United” and “Real” in team names).
