  1. Have there been any “reliable” reports about when the new CEO and DOF should be joining? Or are we still stuck in imminent land?
  2. Yeah, it definitely carries the risk of substantial negative consequences for the club. But it does for him, too—including, but not limited to: (1) being well known as a lying, contract-breaking, no-mark, mother-fucking weasel, and (2) languishing on the shelf for a duration he doesn’t control, up to the remainder of his contract, when he should be competing on the world stage in the prime of his career. It’s absolutely leverage, but it’s also absolutely last-ditch, blow it all fucking up stuff.

Perhaps Habib would interested in a gazumping.
  7. Today I learned that Papiss Cissé is on the roster of Al Qabila (UAE second division), under the management of one Steven Taylor.
  8. Fisting fish is certainly extreme. No false advertising there.
  9. Can we not just be present with our current round of modest-ish discontent without revisiting past, much worse periods of discontent (read: incandescent rage).

Think he could be a real axis of power in our defense.
  12. Right—you don’t need them to be experts, and you don’t want them micro-managing day-to-day stuff. But you do need them to know enough to know it’s not like some kinds of businesses where you can let a few key positions go unfilled while Korn Ferry or some such does an exhaustive search for all the ideal candidates. Meanwhile you blow an entire transfer window at a critical time.
  13. Our board: Yasir O. Al-Rumayyan, PIF governor Abdulmajid Ahmed Al Hagbani, PIF head of Middle East and North Africa securities investments (https://bsf.sa/english/the-bank/boardofdirectors/abdulmajid-ahmed-al-hagbani, https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5655094/2024/07/26/newcastle-structure-owners-staff-coaches/) Asmaa Mohammed Rezeeq, head of PIF global private equity and alternative investments division (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5655094/2024/07/26/newcastle-structure-owners-staff-coaches/) Roger Thornton, real estate guy at one of Jamie Reuben’s companies (https://www.costar.com/article/1349139039/newcastle-united-adds-north-east-property-stalwart-to-board) Jamie Reuben, Reuben Brothers Jacobo Francisco Solis Patino, PIF head of Europe direct investments (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5655094/2024/07/26/newcastle-structure-owners-staff-coaches/) https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/00031014/officers Doesn’t strike one as a football brain trust.
  14. Richie: “Say, Fonzie? Did he really say he only wanted Liverpool?” Fonzie: “Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy”
  15. Try saying it like Schteve McClaren would.
  16. As the majority owners, of course, it’s their responsibility to make sure the managerial/administrative structure is there to do what it’s supposed to do. And they’ve royally fucked that up.
  17. I know there’s a major drop off in quality from the Premier League to the Championship, but if one of the issues is how players in foreign leagues will adapt to the English game, isn’t there an opportunity to catch some talent there while maybe still mitigating some risk?
  18. Major points agreed in a non-binding way, subject to full and binding written agreement.
  19. I don’t know PIF’s operational history with its other portfolio companies, but allowing the club to fall into a situation where there’s effectively no managerial structure is a colossal failure. And I know there’s supposedly people on deck to slot into the CEO and athletic director or DOF position, but the time for that to have been done is like forever ago in football time.
  20. Not going to let myself fall into “everything is horrible forever” mode. But it’s getting pretty hard to pick out a route for this window to end up anything better than “it could have been worse, I guess.”
