  1. I don't think anyone really expected to get anything from this match but I'm glad we went there and after the first 20 minutes or so had a go at them. We definitely created some chances which was nice and it was mostly individual errors that cost us today. On to next weekend.

Voted goal of the season: http://portv.neulion.com/mlsvp/console.jsp?id=16528&catid=1957
  3. Decent first half by the US but France just looks woeful as well.
  4. And why exactly wouldn't they already know this? These huge companies that can afford to give £10m a year to a football club. Why do they need to see it on Sky Sports News to understand?! Because now they've let Bad Guy Ashley do all of the leg work for them. When they come in and change the name of the stadium again to their company, they won't be the bad guys, Ashley will have taken all of the flak already.
  5. So what's the craic with the actual naming other than sponsorship? Are journalist required to call it the Sports Direct Arena? Before a match does it have to be called the same or can they still call it St James' Park? Obviously we will always call it St James', but what about media outlets?
  6. Wow, what a shame. At least most people will still call it St James'.
  7. One of the best posts I've read on this board.
  8. Can't help but have a little tinge of snide happiness about how this whole thing panned out. Joey acted like a twat on twitter, said we didn't make good signings, got the move he seemed to want, talked more shit, then we end up 3rd place and he's down at the bottom. You couldn't write a better story. I know it's childish, but I can't help it.
  9. I don't think that the Man City defense is really all that great. The first goal will be really important in this one (isn't it always?).
  10. Just saw the plane that the Rovers fan rented for the day to fly over the stadium saying "Steve Kean Out" - super classy.
  11. Sounded like he was in some real pain.
  12. Fair dos, the dude played well today. The last two matches have been good ones for him, hope it continues.

Talking about the bench and subs and our form: "it breeds confidence in the guys that are not involved [...] you have that feeling that you can come into a good team and play well" I think that's a very important feeling to have about the place and an often over-looked piece of the psychology of a winning club.
  14. Yaya Toure is very underrated I think with the people playing around him but he's possibly the most vital part of that squad.

Played relatively well today. Obviously still a bit raw (decision making and things of that nature) but the kids definitely got talent and I am glad we get to see him develop on the pitch at SJP and not just waste away in the reserves. Really seems like he's taking his chance to the fullest.
  16. Not a convincing performance by any stretch of the imagination but three points none the less. Let's hope that a few of our dudes can get healthy over the international break.
  17. I think we're closest to the Portsmouth squad of '06. A squad built of unknowns that will finish in the top10. I know we've had a great start to the season but if we eventually finish 9th or better then I will be a happy camper.
  18. Would love to see teams play in retro kits more often.
  19. I still have a size 1 of that one that I kick around the house when I move from room to room.

What a stupid stupid penalty to give away.

Exactly what I mean that if you had good CMs and a good forward that you could rock this league. You have to finish those kinds of chances.
