Having Ramsdale in goal really made a difference once we went down to 10 men. He’s far more composed with the ball at his feet, and his distribution allowed us to keep possession and control the tempo.

I honestly think this summer has to be a complete reset. This isn’t about adding one or two players and hoping for the best. The whole squad needs ripping apart and rebuilt properly. We’ve got too many aging players who can’t maintain intensity over a full season, too many signings that simply haven’t worked out, and now likely no European football to fall back on either. That changes everything in terms of pull, finances and momentum. You can’t paper over cracks anymore. The squad looks stale, unbalanced and short of real competition in key areas. Some players have peaked, others clearly aren’t good enough, and a few just don’t suit the system. Fair play to Howe, but he’s got a massive job on his hands. This is the biggest test of his time here. Recruitment has to be spot on, decisions have to be ruthless, and sentiment can’t play a part.

He’s too slow and too weak. If you’re going to be one of the slowest players in the league, you’ve at least got to be able to get into position and hold the ball up — and he can’t even manage that.

I’m not sure what was worse about the third goal — Gordon trying to spin his man in our own half, or a completely shattered Dewsbury-Hall suddenly looking like Mbappé breezing past Burn.

Let’s be honest, the pressure should absolutely be on. There’s enough evidence now to suggest his style struggles to cope with the volume of fixtures — and it’s starting to look like we could be heading for another season without Europe off the back of a Champions League campaign. This summer is massive for him, especially in terms of recruitment. If we end up spending heavily again on the kind of players he pushed for last year and it doesn’t improve things, he won’t last long.

His performances in Europe will significantly increase his market value. In my view, if an offer in the £70–90m range comes in, the club should sell him. His performances in the PL just haven’t been consistent in the last 18 months.
