  1. I'm not sure either honestly but, for example, Chelsea paid a huge portion of the Mudryk fee up front but they gave him an 8 year deal for FFP purposes. There may be an angle to this where the fee can be amortised but actual cash outlay needs to be on the books and can cause a problem with profit / loss. This is where some local journos could add real value by talking to experts and laying out all the facts about how this works, but they'd prefer to regurgitate what's already known.
  2. Gordon's pressing just forced Israel into an awful error and then, after a save, he earned a penalty.
  3. This comes up from time to time and yet I've never read anything on FFP that indicates the payment terms (e.g. paid up front vs. in installments) has any bearing on how it would be calculated. You can still amortize the fee over the length of the contract. The only thing I can think of here is we did not want / could not afford to have a purchase hit our 2022/23 accounting year.
  4. It feels like such an easier game to play once you’re at that established level. There’s such a high bar to be in the squad that more often than not you’re just turning them over. We’re at a point right now where you’re still really hoping a player like Anderson or Miley can contribute to the squad, plus it’s not like there are another five right behind them. It makes you hesitate to send them on loan and reluctant to sell whereas a player of Anderson’s quality at Liverpool or Arsenal would be loaned a couple times, generate some hype, and then sold for double digit millions. Rinse and repeat until you land on a Saka or a Foden.
  5. He looks about 10 years older.

  7. Someone like Alcarez (young and versatile) would be a good addition. 18 mos ago or if there were no financial limitations I could get on board with Adams, but at this point we should either aim higher or in another position.
  8. True, but not being allowed to have both a buy back and sell-on seems very straightforward and sensible.
  9. I was listening to a podcast earlier and they made a really interesting point … they said while he looks like Pirlo he actually plays more like his hero Gattuso. We’ve got a warrior coming in.
  10. Also for all the comments like “how can Chelsea keep spending, etc” they have made more selling just Havertz and Kovacic than we have made from player sales in the last five years.
  11. We also seem to be very good at convincing players to join (it obviously helps when targeting players whose wages we can significantly increase).
  12. Luke in shambles. Time will tell but it does seem possible this represents a significant portion of our spending this summer. Similar to Isak we view as too good to pass up and will make concessions / figure it out later.
  13. With this Gerrard news already seeing the Saudi league being referred to as the SPL. Poor Scotland.
  14. We are still closer to the final day of last season than the start of this one. There’s no reason to rush everyone back after a very long season.
  15. He’s potentially our: 1st / 2nd choice RW 3rd choice LW 3rd choice striker 3rd/4th choice RCM
  16. If he plays as much as I think he might then double digit G+A will be the expectation.
  17. Instantly looks unlikable.

  19. I agree selling high on Miggy is intriguing, but my strong assumption is we'd sell ASM before we sell him. I'd prefer to keep the unique attributes he offers but selling ASM to help fund a RW would definitely increase our balance across the front.
  20. It’s entirely possible it went the other way (we moved for Tonali after finding how Szoboszlai wasn’t an option). Impossible to know the sequence of events from press reports.
  21. I agree, although I'd like to think new players is only one path to fixing this problem. I assume Eddie and team are hard at work thinking about how to use our existing players with different formations / tactics to break down a team sitting behind the ball. I really hope we have a better plan B this season in those types of games.
  22. You could say it's: LW Isak Big Joe ASM Gordon CF Isak Wilson RW Miggy Gordon Murphy I'd like another option on the right for sure, but this seems a good time to once again tap the "Gordon may be a bigger part of plans than many think" sign.
  23. Agreed, understand why we didn’t sign him in August but not sure why we stopped after that. It’s possible we felt Isak was just a better version of him or that Isak / Gordon made him redundant. Part of me thinks we might only add to the front three if a deal presents itself or with a young player who may not start for awhile.
  24. That’s just the impression from afar. A lot of Liverpool fans are still annoyed they monitored the shit out of Bellingham all the way to Madrid.
