Pre-season (2025/26) - NUFC to play Atletico Madrid in Sela Cup
timeEd32 replied to bowlingcrofty's topic in Football
It’s not even remotely close to sold out. -
And the one that showed up more frequently doesn't interest any of the clubs around us.
-
Wish the blue was our away shirt and the green the third kit. I've never ordered from dhgate but think I'm going to have to. My son can't wait any longer for the new shirt with Bruno on the back. Might get him a Brazil one too since they are so cheap.
-
To be clear that Chelsea blog knows nothing. I just found it amusing they immediately assumed it would be a loan. Makes me really want us to buy him.
-
It’s mind numbing. I like the player, but I don’t think I’ve seen a single pro-ASM argument that acknowledges large parts of what they are saying are irrelevant if our manager doesn’t want to play him.
-
No There’s a Chelsea blog that already has an article up based on nufcblog and they don’t even consider the fact we’d be buying him. It’s about the risk of loaning him to us.
-
They are trying to catch up to us and we have the best signing of the summer between the two. They will be tough, but I see no reason to be fearful or jealous.

Ha, I’m not originally from here so my local pride is fairly low. Haven’t been to Cavanaugh’s - have had two kids since we moved here and now my 6 year old likes to watch with me. Some day. I think we’re in row 15 on one of the aisles. -

That’s annoying. I assumed part of the reason for the Atlanta base is they might have a bunch of big facilities for the teams to use as opposed to the Northeast where it can be hard to find space. They could be playing at UPenn or Villanova though and I could be in the bushes Adam P style. -
I just think you're comparing to the wrong level of player. Isak / Botman / Bruno / Tonali are young, critical first team players changing leagues/country. Livramento is coming here as a squad player (presumably) off of an injury from a relegated team. The fee (which may be inclusive of bonuses) could be inflated because he's under contract for years and Southampton don't have to sell him, but it doesn't mean we need to pay him like he's walking into our XI.
-
Those two transfers aren't really comparable in any way. Also Isak was on £48k/wk before he came here. I'd be shocked if we give him more than £40k/wk and even that seems high (again, assuming what's available for his Southampton wages are roughly accurate).
-
Based on what? He's on significantly less than that coming off an injury. I'd be surprised if we'd 4-5x his pay in that scenario.
-
Worth noting, if multiple sites are to be believed, that he's on very low wages at the moment. We could double them and he'd still only be on about £20k/week. As far as FFP is concerned a player who costs £30m making £1m/yr (£20k/wk) costs the same as a player who costs £20m making £3m/yr (£60k/wk). My guess is people would have less of a reaction to the latter, but it's all the same in the end (and I'd argue the higher fee/lower wages is probably preferable). That will also mean that, if he does well, he'll be near the top of the list for an extension which would further smooth out the transfer fee.
-
You're not really wrong, but two important points: - We had to spent a lot of money in the last two years just to play catch-up with the squad, while at the same time having no one of note to sell. Selling him (and Wood) helps us with the current three-year accounting period as well as the two following this one. - Our revenue, particularly commercial and player sales, has nowhere to go but up. In four years time when selling Maxi is gone from the books and we're still paying fees/wages for Tonali, Barnes, Livramento, and others we will have presumably made considerable progress on these fronts.
-
He might be a little nervous the first time he steps out at SJP in a PL game, but on the whole he doesn't strike me as someone like that. I think that was a factor in our interest -- if we're walking out at the Bernabeu in a few months or another final at Wembley I'm not sure he's going to give a shit (in a good way).

There’s an incredible amount of mental gymnastics in this thread.
-
Is that Lewis as LCM or LW? Hilarious either way. Strong team otherwise.
-
Even ignoring the financial benefits (which are significant), I have a feeling this type of take is going to look quite silly in 6 months time.

I can’t tell what’s a joke vs serious (I hope it’s all jokes).
