  1. Isn’t the clause like £60m?
  2. I think Olise became a pipe dream in the last couple months of the season. I’d also be surprised if we can afford anyone in that price range.
  3. My best attribute was my ability to run up and down the wing endlessly, which is why I became a distance runner.
  4. And also if that £75m player is graciously playing for free.
  5. You'd think Joelinton, Tonali, and Willock can at least combine for 38 games in the worst of worst scenarios. Just one of them always being available would be a big help. Excited to see how Miley develops too.
  6. At 0:33 of this video check out the exquisite finish by Longstaff that Tonali may not be capable of
  7. Unless we're not realizing how skilled his positioning is then Tonali (or whomever is playing there) is going to find himself with just as many chances.
  8. Going to be really annoyed if someone takes Casemiro's wages off their hands. There's definitely a bull case for Man United if they have a good summer window. But I think you can also argue that they are so utterly dependent on soon to be 30 year old Bruno Fernandes that there is definitely room for things to get worse. And in either case I don't think Ten Hag is a difference making manager. They are miles away from winning titles.
  9. Don’t you know that squad value is irrelevant because they’ve spent badly, players not improving (and in some cases declining) has nothing to do with the manager, and players play for free so don’t mention wages.
  10. Single figure across the league with many quirks in each sport. Baseball has a luxury tax if you exceed a certain number instead of a cap. And revenue sharing where each team puts almost half of their revenue into a shared pot and it’s distributed equally. Basically the big market teams subsidize some smaller ones and then some of those owners still spend nothing. It’s Mike Ashley’s dream.
  11. I must have imagined the games when we had no striker, Murphy at fullback, or Tino in the front three.
  12. Your point still stands, but hadn't we already written off Hendrick's wages?
  13. UEFA will be happy to have Man United in the Europe League. They will certainly find a solution.
  14. This is what I don't get. UEFA does an almost identical calculation but with a stricter limit. The first (or first few) penalty from UEFA may be a fine, but I don't understand why the PL clubs want to push on this and make things so complicated. With different accounting years there may be a way to thread the needle, but as some analyst or lawyer pointed out recently the amount of overhead on club's accounting departments is becoming crazy. This is all such a farce.
  15. Tottenham had a glorious opportunity in the early Pep years. They'd be thought of very differently if they had won the title between 2015-18 or the Champions League in 2019. They fell short and are left with a bunch of what-ifs. Now they've had to transition through managers and aging stars. I'd be frustrated with their last five seasons if I supported them, especially all the early cup exists, but all of the ingredients are there. I think a few months ago I said I expect them to have a golden era of sorts in the next decade. If they don't it will mean they've continually missed badly on managers and/or transfers.
  16. These aggregators are so annoying. Here's a better summary from that article: "Valencia's owner has set an asking price of €40m, but the current GK market does not seem to support that amount and they have not received any offers even close to that amount (including from Newcastle United)." https://www.marca.com/futbol/valencia/2024/05/28/665587b2e2704e53af8b45c1.html
  17. Saturday's result will have sent us on a different path too. Squad fillers like Ritchie and Dummett, implications for Miley, Longstaff, and/or Anderson, targets like Tosin and Mamardashvili, etc. etc. all could be impacted. Only in the last 72 hours do we know what we need, what we're offering, and what our potential revenue / costs look like, so any info before that could be stale.

    Joe Willock

Rotate managers annually and in the Eddie Howe years loan out Willock, Wilson, and Targett because they can’t handle the intensity.
  19. I hate when this thread is at the top.
  20. This aspect of Freedman also worried me tbh. He's gone back to Palace 3 or 4 times in his career in various roles. It was usually after the other place didn't work out to be fair, but I'm glad he did the u-turn before actually joining us.
  21. Yeah, I don't like that. All things being equal I love the fact Giles is from the area / a supporter. If it worked out he'd be here for ages.
  22. Sky should copy what ESPN has done with the NFL and NBA and pay one or two genuine news breakers (e.g. Ornstein) a lot of money. It's odd to me that they seemingly don't care.
  23. I was going to say a points total of at or around 70 feels like a more reasonable goal. Wherever that falls so be it.
  24. This is what my ‘ridiculous’ comment is based on. If we assume City and Arsenal take two spots then there are only two left for the rest of the established six. Newcastle could have a very, very good season and still not qualify for the Champions League. The expectation is based on some level of overachieving combined with continued underachieving by at least three clubs. That’s why it feels like a stretch to me, but I can also see why people feel like it’s the most appropriate goal.
