Why would anyone wanna be nasty to Howe?! He's a perfect gentleman and a model pro. That's rhetorical btw
-
Ner I still believe what I was saying about Keegan. I adore the bloke too and he is truly iconic for us. He's probably done more for the club than Howe overall. But Howe winning Newcastle a cup will mean he surpasses Keegan as (potentially) our greatest ever manager for many, certainly outside of the NUFC fanbase.

I absolutely hate when an old player thread is bumped Mind immediately goes to "Ah shit man...too soon...too soon."
-
Maybe I could have stopped short of being moderately abusive though Apologies folk.
-
Yeah. Further discussion is going to be had.

21/22 and then into 22/23. @Erikse(sorry forgot to quote)

We often played 5 at the back. Even this season we have played 5 at the back and to good effect.
-
I don't get people saying he cannot evolve and change things like. We literally defended and played liek shit houses in a totally different formation and "evolved" and "changed" over a summer to be an attacking, high press, Champions League outfit. We had a winning formula last year that got us CL and a cup. Isak left last minute and our winning formula was missing a key component and he's had virtually no training ground time to fix that.

TBH I've had like 10 pints so don't recall if I drew in this or others. But you're absolutely right and what I am trying to say is not anything other than that. My point is more towards the fact that Howe has gone beyond what any manager had for 69 years and deserves more respect than that which he is receiving. We can talk about the takeover but we made a world record signing with Shearer under Keegan. We've merely joined the race under Howe thanks to PSR. For context that's like us spending £140million on one player...

Yeah but.. folk wanna see goals right. There's still plenty of them. I could be wrong but I'm sure I read a stat recently that details we score and concede more than Keegans side... He is not immune from criticism. Nor should anyone be. Yet in tonight's engagements folk are repulsed by the fact I suggest Keegan was a hero in our eyes but not in anyone else's. He won nothing for us. Yet Howe is 3/4 wins from a third CL qualification in 5 years and folk will happily wade in on him. Despite going further than what Keegan could achieve in winning a trophy.
-
Perhaps wrongly stated...he will be remembered for his failure to win the league rather than as a failure. If that's on my previous comment... apologies. This was my intent.
-
Fucking clean off. Ciao.
-
Aye. Perhaps you're right. But winning one of the countries major honours should come above being entertaining runners up. I don't give a shit if our team give folk a nice day out and some entertainment tbh. I care that Newcastle is the best team in a competition. That matters to me because Newcastle upon Tyne is the greatest city on earth in my mind. Football personifies that. Winning a cup personifies that. Being entertaining and losing means we were canny but not good enough to be considered the best.

Folk are blind like. When do you ever see Keegan referred to in mainstream media as the guy who effectively made modern day NUFC modern day NUFC? The clips you always see of him on mainstream media are his arm over an asvertising board as we lose 4-3 and when he says "I would love it if we beat them" and subsequently did not win the league. Mainstream media does not remember he took us from the doldrums and made us what we are. I don't like that either. Keegan is my hero too, but Howe will be remembered for winning a cup and breaking our baron spell before Keegan is from outside the NUFC community. All in all - it doesn't really matter. Folk should support Howe.
-
Folk just defensive cause it's Keegan. Rightly so. I adore Keegan too but he won jack shit in terms of silver whilst winning the hearts and minds of thousands.
-
You know me mate. You know it's sarcastic (when I say my opinion matters more than others).
-
Jokes aside... The point I am making is okay - your mates might think it but ultimately, winners are documented. Runners up aren't (as much - other hsn being the losers) If folk think winners aren't remembered then certainly runners up aren't.
-
1) It does. That is all.
-
Aye and they're remembered as valiant failures.
-
Yeah but no one remembers Pochettino either. Or they won't in 10 years. Folk are taking what I'm saying to heart too much. I adore Keegan. But winners are ultimately documented and remembered. Not runners up.
-
TBH I get bored of folk calling out the East Stand nowadays. It is what we all expect. The Gallowgate though...Silence...and that's our 'home' end
-
Well put it this way our name will last on that trophy longer than folk will remember entertaining runners ups.
