Two of the worst forms of sport in one place: Bruce and Cricket.
-
Yeah - that's not the immediate aim of the thread. The primary point was whether or not we've spent money wisely irrespective of who was in charge. If we haven't spent wisely then the next question would be who is deemed a failure and then it was thirdly to get to who signed them and why. As mentioned above, perhaps that is leading, but I am just trying to add data or weight to/against one of 3 different theories (I.e. Cannot work with a DoF, Howe has shit transfers, the only good signings were made by DoFs)
-
I mean...happy to do a departures one too... In the first instance I was looking to remove these "Eras' as you have named them - simply because I was trying to remove the debate around who signed them, who didn't sign them, what the set up was and whether Howe could work with it. It was intended to be remove those additional layers and ask whether signings were or were not a success whether that be financially or in terms of capability I.e. adding something to the overall quality of the squad. Upon establishing that, I then wanted to drill into who were the failures (thus far) and why folk think those failures were signed. Appreciate folk won't have read the full thread necessarily - so just to repeat - I feel folk use contradictory arguments to "validate" their removal of Howe. I'm trying to clear up one or two of those "validations" through the use of this thread. Perhaps that seems disingenuous to some, but it's well intentioned. Effectively I'm trying to gain "data" to add weight wither to or against this particular evidence of Howe's alleged poor performance.

Really hope yous lads win it. Went up to Tynecastle a few years back to see you thrash Dundee United and it was a good experience. Think it'll be good for Scottish football on the whole as well.
-
If we'd only not put the ball in our own net from 16 yards (away) and shit our pants at home to Sunderland we'd probably be considering this an alreet season now too (positionally)
-
I reckon a goal/assist in every 1.5games is pretty decent for a winger (based solely on the above).
-
Interesting take. However, he was a successful signing and sale for us, whilst his sale this year has, in my opinion, terribly impacted us.
-
Jokes aside - I felt it helped to add context or cover more aspects of the discussion by doing that, as if Isak and Woltemade were wastes and Targett and Ruddy were successes then it has a more serious impact financially upon the club.
-
That's where I'd like these folk to answer my 3 questions on the previous page cause presently- I don't get this "evidence" of Howe being a bad manager and so - I think it needs thrown out whilst other more valid "evidence" remains and unfortunately seems to grow at present
-
You're obviously looking in different places to me then
-
Fair. But if they represent any kinda of improvement to us as a club then they've been good. Minteh as an example. Didn't play much but we signed him for less than we sold and so that's benefitted us. I guess everyone would have their own ideas how to do this and perhaps this wasn't the best (apologies!), but hopefully it gets to the same outcome. Ultimately, I think this will prove that many don't think Howes signings have been poor, on the whole.
-
I didn't include Wood because of the valuation although I think he was pivotal for us. Cannot remember if we got our money back on him. Minteh was a success for me as we made money on him. I think Woltemade, Elanga, Wissa, Vlachadimos and Targett (permanent) are the main poor signings and Vlachadimos was evidently not for footballing purposes. I think Woltemade and Elanga may yet prove to have been good signings too but difficult to suggest they are for sure as of yet.

Which players do you think were a success? Add their values up and divide by 787.25m
-
Which players did you think were a success?
-
I don't really get this remark... No-one has commented that he hasn't been backed and evidently most people think the backing he has had and has utilised has been worthwhile (thus far). Curious as to what you answered in the poll?
-
Purpose of this "game" or poll was to establish whether or not Eddie Howes signings have overall been good or bad and benefitted the squad or our finances. Thus far it would suggest that the majority of signings have been good and the money spent and/or made has been good. Last summer appears to be the main stickler (I'd presume) in terms of goods signings and good expenditure. Which then poses three questions for me: 1) If people think thay is the case is it because Eddie Howe signed these players without a DoF, and prior signings were done with a DoF? 2) If prior signings were done with a DoF, does that mean Howes perceived inability or perceived lack of desire to work with a DoF is a myth? 3) If it's that you believe Howe cannot or will not work with a DoF then why has he been employed and why has he remained employed whilst DoFs have come and gone? I mean...to be transparent here - I'm just trying to get to the heart of just two of the criticisms of Howe that I consistently read and consider to be both contradictory and unfounded. I think if we can establish what we're actually criticsing Howe for and have the data to back it up it'll become far more palatable for folk like me.
-
So 12 would put you in the 26-50% bracket for number of players and 417.7m decent expenditure so 53%
-
So for example I think of the £787.25m we've spent £510.45m which has been successful (64%). Main contributors to poor signings are Elanga and Woltemade - both of which the jury is out for me moreso next year, then Wissa, as much as I'm a positive, tolerant kinda guy (I like to think) & Vlachadimos offered nothing and suspect will not offer anything. I think Woltemade has already offered some return but not enough to meet the price tag or improve us and likewise for Elanga. Meanwhile, Minteh we made decent money from, Trippier and Burn we spent pennies on and got excessive amounts more in return to what we paid. Osula and Pope and such like we have got what we paid for in my opinion.

Sorry, the first time it wasn't allow me to clear my attachments or write text in the post box so had to create and try to clear then edit. Think that was originally removed so I out it back on.

Happy for it to be redone if Admin are @Andy...

Aye but the opposite way around. How many players have been successes and how much of the total was spent on them.
