I agree its odd that KK said neogtions were on back burner, but the articles are saying the club have confirmed we have offered him a new deal. quite possible another club has come in for him and we have been forced into it early

because he is a very average player, give him a 20k rise and you will have the likes of N'Zogbia etc wanting the same, i dont think theres a player in our squad who can expect to earn the same as owen.

In all seriousness, i don't think he will get a better salary anwhere else. i agree, at the moment he is worth a huge wage to us but cant see other clubs that he would realisticly join being able to justify it

Completely agree. Surely none of our fans could expect us to offer him anything more? I think many of us would expect us to offer him less or find a replacement. I am in that camp anyway, and wouldn´t be to pleased if we are losing out on and having to sell other players because we are not offering them the wages that they want, only to then go and offer one of our most injury prone players a much improved deal that would have him amongst the Premiership absolute top earners. If i thought we could get someone of Owens class in id agree, but we can not attract players of his class at the moment, when he plays he usualy earns his money, Bolton last week we were getting no where and could have easy ended in a 0-0 or 0-1 owen came on and took the points for us.

We need to keep him, we would not get a striker of his quality even if we had a month to find one, and to me Owen is not a deadwood player, id sooner give him a payrise and try and off load the likes of Duff and smith.

Keegan has said the contract talks were being held back until after mondays transfer deadline, if this new contract offer is true it maybe means someone has been in contact to sign him, either that or we have no signings lined up and this is being done to ease fans a little.

Sunderland are signing players at ease cos they are buying players people want rid of, there is not one player they have signed that the selling club wanted to keep even as a squad player, i can think of only a handfull of transfers like that where the player goes onto be a huge sucsess at there next club, the diffrence with us is we are trying to buy quality players that clubs dont want to sell. As for giving Milner a pay rise just cos the likes of Duff and Smith are getting paid crazy amounts does not work for me either, Young players like Milner should be made to earn a big contracts not just expect it cos big name flops like Duff are getting one, and the sooner we get rid of these big earning failures the better.

Some people have been listening to Souness to much, in saying we should have kept him cos he was hard working, no point being hard working if you have no end product(see Alan Smith,Scott Parker etc)

Changing the subject a little but still about club finance, i heard from a bloke on sat who was at a meeting with Ashley etc about trying to get corporate box users to renew and he was told there was a contact/agreement which still had years to run from the Shepherd days that was to pay Sir John Hall £350k per premier league home game from ticket sales in the SJH stand...surely this can not be true....can it!

Fair enough, I read it as though you didn't expect Abramovich spending with him but would with another 'better' billionaire. Implying he's failed. I find it strange that you'd like to see him go though, the last thing we need is yet another period of change. Just not impressed mate, were ripe for some decent cash injection, but we never seem to do it. I watched Citeh last year do exactly what we should have done, if we had, with a more stable owner, it would be us brining in top players at the drop of a hat since were moving forward. Now you could say he didn't have his own manager, well now he has, and this summer's spending although good in terms of the quality, is only about half of what we need to have a strong season. I cannot see us signing 5+ players of the same quality in the time we've got left, therefore were in for another tough season, and another season lost where we could have easily made an impact. Man city finished a whole 12 points ahead of us..spending a massive amount more

I think Ashleys doing OK, still learning and getting his backroom team in place, started badly transfer wise when he allowed SA to take on alot of crap on huge wages last season (Geremi,Barton,Smith,Viduka) id be happy taking it slowly and getting in 2-3 players like Jonas and Coloccini every preseason and adding another of that quality in the jan window. we clearly need a few more players but id rather struggle with a small squad than buy a Duff,Geremi,Smith type just to get the numbers in.
