Newcastle United vs Arsenal - 5/2/2011 - Pre match despair

probs 93/94? -
Yeah, I can't help thinking of when we sold Gazza and bought 4 replacements which were supposed to strenghten the team overall. And promptly went down. There's a lot riding on this Summer (and that's if we manage to stay in the Premier League 'til then!), but the way to strenghten is to do it on top of a solid base when you're doing well and then discard what you no longer need. Trying to buy a team never works, unless you've got so much to waste (Chelsea / Man City style) that you can afford loads of mistakes. We had impetus. We were on the up, with great team spirit and the most united club that I can imagine under Ashley. Now we're in turmoil and on the slide again. Think back to all the great players who have moved from English clubs for big money. Then think of the non-Champion's League clubs who sold them. How many come to mind as to having really prospered from selling their best players? would hardly say we are on the slide(yet) we have lost 1 in 5, and really should have had 12 points from 15.

hard to think we can get a result v Arsenal , but its also hard to believe the same team we watched 'play' on weds night really should have picked up 12 points from 12 in the previous 4 games. -
media seem very negative in the press conference as KD pointed out, it wouldnt supprise me if the media set him up and catch him out in some way when pissed one night, seems a very easy target for what would make big news story, hopefully the 8th most expensive player ever gets recorded calling scousers cunts
-
can hardly judge him on that game, everyone was hopeless especially 2nd half, to be fair he did win and knock down a few headers, thats the only positive i got last night, he really does need to take his chance in the next few games though as if you cant shine when your up V Best and Lovenkrands you never will.

What pisses me off most is that i am quite sure that Nolan could have kept Carroll at the club, they are clearly very good friends and as OUR captain he could have said look dont be silly, carry on playing as you are and the big contract will come soon, 18 games until the summer try for it then, and even if there was no asking for a contract and he was forced to leave, Nolan again for the good of the club he captains could have said stand your ground you have 5 years on your contract. Very let down by Nolan, hes had a great goal scoring season but very poor work from the captain on this one.

id start Ranger, great time to show some confidence in him/let him prove he has what it takes to take over from Carroll.
-
To be fair in that interview Carroll looks about as pleased to be there as Owen did when he landed here from Madrid

"Reassurances That Every Penny Will Be Reinvested In The TEAM."

exactly, we all know the man well enough to know there will not be 35million pounds worth of players coming in in the summer ! -
i agree, but the whole thing makes no sense no matter what way you look at it so everyone will make what they want of it. Bet liverpool fans are please to see hes saying he didnt want to join them, Carroll himself seems more bothered what we think than them.
-
agree, it all tallys with the "i was KIND OF pushed out", love the way it says the whole lot will be put back into the club, yes 30million for the wage bill 5 for transfers
-
who knows what to belive, is Carroll really that soft he was bullied into leaving within a matter of hours? the whole thing makes no sense no matter which way you look at it. Shearers comments make me think he knows the truth also
-
think Dalglish has taken a huge lead in this one
-
exactly, Ashley has no reputation to protect and the media would have sided with him saying it was to good to turn down.
-
we turned the bids down FFS
-
makes darren bent look like he was sold on the cheap £18m (over 4 years) + £6m addons - £6m to Spurs...aye, he was. never will a player be sold before deadline day again if these prices are anything to go by.
-
makes darren bent look like he was sold on the cheap
-
i wont regret it, i get no share of the cash, i know from MA's track record the funds wouldnt spent on players so i see no loss at all.
-
this is unreal, are we looking for the full amount from the torres deal?
-
haeve to agree with this, id hate him to go for any price but deep down you have to see this is a crazy amount for him to turn down
-
yes but at that time we were talking about getting 15-16million for him
