I don't think it's unusual for players to be loaned out with only a proportion of their wages paid or for the selling club to subsidise the player's wage. I doubt that would be a major problem. We're probably just in the process of negotiation or waiting for other deals to go through first. There will be ways to move those players on rather than just having them sit their contracts out outside of the squad.

You seem to be quite an angry fella. The club don't own the land St. James' Park is on, the council do. Anyway, getting agreement from the Freemen to use the Castle Leazes site wasn't an issue in 1997 and iirc @LFEE suggested that it probably wouldn't be if we were to propose to build a new stadium there again. The issue in 1997 wasn't the Freemen, the council or Dolly Potter, the council were probably going to approve it but it because clear that the final decision would have been called-in by the government for a public inquiry due to English Heritage objecting to the impact on Leazes Park. John Hall then spat his dummy and withdrew the application rather than seeing the public inquiry through.
