  1. Gary Speed was a model professional and a credit to football. Hard-working, dedicated, an inspiration. One of my childhood heroes.

Speed: "Newcastle was probably the happiest time of my career. That Champions League campaign was a fantastic time."

Quite comforting to hear he enjoyed his time here, and felt appreciated her - particularly with Sir Bobby, I imagine. Bit of a golden era.

Always spoke highly of this club, I think Sir Bobby was a real role-model for him as well...

Gary Speed: "Sir Bobby did a lot for me, sometimes without me even realising. He created a wonderful environment at Newcastle."

  2. If we can get Marveaux fit then we've got a very good player on the cheap and he will have been worth the gamble.

Colocho really is Ronaldo after a lobotomy.

Keep up the "you're an idiot" argument, pretty much all you've got.

  3. I still would have taken the gamble at start of season on him, hindsight is a wonderful thing, and he could still stay fit in future for longer

A five-year contract is a gamble the club shouldn't have taken, imo.

lol - people have a go at the club for spending money and have a go at them for not spending it. You win some you lose some, that's life.

Alternatively you can be realistic and see wages as a necessary expenditure and 5 year contracts as the 3 year contracts they actually are in todays game.

I'm all in favour of the five year contracts but that's not the issue here imo, the issue is that we chose to pay a highly injury prone player with questionable recent history to be a member of our squad on the basis that we didn't have to pay a transfer fee. There's undoubtedly many, many players with better fitness records we could have brought in instead had we been willing to pay a fee.

    Nail on the head.

Handing a five-year contract to a 25 year-old with 64 leagues start in his entire career is irresponsible. Win some, lose some? Not really a good enough excuse tbh...

  5. HATE. Found myself being chased by villagers with pitchforks the last time I tried to discuss this word on here.

For the record I HATE SUNDERLAND and the INBRED Mackems.

  6. One bad injury from a despicable tackle doesn't mean that he's suddenly nailed on to be a crock for life.

We've got the squad depth to survive without him anyway.

But his injury record is appalling. This is another to add to his long list of recurring problems.

  7. What a catastrophic decision he made. His loss.

Every player in the squad was up for sale. The ones that were in demand were sold.

Yeh , i remember hearing Carroll's asking price was £4 million

    ...and Wigan were apparently interested.

  8. Regarding the Nike rumour, like some people have said, can't see Nike sponsoring our shirt going down too well with Puma.

A deal would be agreed and most probably be activated in June...

  9. Santon or Raylor at RM please.

Santon at LB, Raylor at RM

Colo in midfield. Jonas on the right etc.

What's so crazy about playing one of Raylor and Santon at LB, and the other at RM?

  10. Well that's bollocks because Liverpool's doctor said he passed.

Well the point that he has aggravated an injury that has been a problem in the past remains.

    The same goes for Santon.

Do you actually know that he's aggravated an old injury, or that Santon has?

You seem to be taking a weird pleasure in Marveaux's injury.

It's a groin injury, so I'd hedge my bets that it's the same injury or a similar one to what he suffered last year. Santon too has been troubled by the same injury two or three times now (right knee).

They are both quality players with bags of potential - but it's concerning to see injuries that have troubled them in the past flaring up...

Having discussed Marveaux with some of my friends in France, it seems to be a popular belief that Rennes were not willing to offer him a new contract due to his problems with injuries.

  11. It’s been reported by Football France that Liverpool target Sylvain Marveaux has failed his medical ahead of putting pen to paper on a proposed move to Liverpool.

The problem apparently stems from a serious groin or [remedial abductor] injury he picked up in a Ligue 1 match for Rennes last November, and has prevented him taking part in any competitive games since.

If this report proves to be true, then the reported £60,000 per week deal for Marveaux now lies on the brink of collapse. It is alleged that the medical representatives from Liverpool’s US owners Fenway Sports Group intervened to call a halt to the proceedings.
