We buy at least one player who is good at taking free kicks and corners.
Pennant?
-
Not one goal. From 30 appearances.
10 yellow cards and 1 red card though.
Pathetic.
He's had an awful season, and the biggest joke in this is the fact we paid £6 million and are still paying £60,000 a week for his services ... or lack of them.
-
Beye?
Hasn't even been close to being the best right-back in the league,
-
Martinho.
-
i like him, always have.
one of the best crossers of the ball in the league imo
He's only 25 and would provide us with the width we would need on the right, should Milner go to the left in a 4-4-2.
Maybe Dean Ashton to partner Owen/Martins? I know who I'd rather be aiming crosses at, Ashton or Crouch ...
-
That's disappointing.
I also couldn't understand the logic about homesickness and therefore moving to London though.
Probably because he can get to France in 2 hours.
-
I've seen games where he has won every challenge in the air, I'm talking about 9/10 challenges. Mind, I've never seen him play on an International level.
-
Johan Elmander. Exceptionally good in the air, can finish well and his link-up play with other strikers is very intelligent.
Toulouse were 16th in the league when I last checked.

i reckon barry will be great at pool - but again a bit sad to see every good player leaving for one of the big four (and i don't actually like villa...)
Like O'Neill, like the football they play and even the players.
Can't stand the fans, or the club as a whole.

If we were happy to offer c£15m for Modric, then I think we should go to 25m for Berbatov. He would be class with Owen and Martins at his side.
Because he would never want to come here, even if he supports us as it were. Spurs are (sadly) a better club than us as it his, offering more than we are, why would he take a step backwards as opposed to joining the likes of Man Utd or Real Madrid?

See bold.
He might have a soft spot for us but I don't think it would be enough of an issue to make him prefer us over the likes of Real and Man Utd. That's all.
We'll probably end up going for him when he's 30.

zigic has had a nightmare season for valencia, they cannot wait to get rid of him. combine that with their financial problems and he could be a bargain
other suggestions: adriano, kris boyd, gyan asamoah, oscar cardozo. none of them have premiership experience though....
I wouldn't want to see us approach Adriano at all, the same goes for Asamoah who looked appalling during the African Cup of Nations.
Kris Boyd could be a good signing especially when you consider his goalscoring record for Rangers has primarily been from the bench. Oscar Cardozo is another interesting one. He's had a good season at Benfica, although I'm not sure if they would be prepared to sell him just yet as he is very promising and to attract a new manager they will need to hold on to as many of their exceptional players as possible.

ameobi at this rate... lol
klaas jan huntelaar? or would he be costing silly money?
There is no chance of us signing Huntelaar when teams like AC, Man Utd, Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested. I think it could be worth bringing Gudjohnsen back to England.
-
Good.
Bring Ashton in.

was that not where hugo 'flatter to deceive' viana came from?
Yes and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Nani came from there also.
What kind of cretin writes off a player based on him coming from a club where one of our less succesful players came from.
Bizare concept.
Couldn't agree more. How can we be optimistic is signing young players if we are going to relate them to our flops?
Veloso looks like a very good player, I was particularly impressed with him during the U21s Championship. He can defend in both midfield and at the centre of defence (although he lacks height in that position) and like someone said before his set pieces are almost always threatening. He can pass both short and long range and seems very level headed on the ball. Of course his price tag is always going to be high, this is the sort of player who has attracted interest from literally the world's biggest clubs.
-
It's great to see him doing this. I'd like to think that if I had that sort money I would be willing to help others out.
-
Keegan's a f****** idiot for some of the comments he's come out with over the last few days.
Really? Is it not just how he's always been? Honest. Wears his heart on his sleeve.
Ironically, two traits that everyone loves him for.
People have always loved him for his optimism and the belief he gave them too, which has seemed to have dried up now.
Who's hasn't?
-
I think he will have signed a new contract by the start of the new season.
-
The Chronicle reckon he might be coming back because he's homesick.
Even a refugee from Darfur would get homesick living in Stoke.
-
In 2003, Ramage won the 'Wor Jackie Milburn Trophy.
-
About time we shifted some deadwood.
-
Would be a better option than Smith as far as our 4th striker is concerned.
-
Ashton ahead of Crouch or Gomis.
-
He's apparently always played as a defensive midfielder ...
Also linked to Arsenal as Flamini's replacement.
-
Apparently is a left sided attacking midfielder (from what I read on this forum earlier).
Possibly N'Zogbia's replacement?
Replacing the Duke for £12m

According to The People today, we have had a £9 million bid rejected as they apparently want £17 million.
