I don't understand what you're getting at Dave - are you saying you get a better opinion of Milner if you only watch the highlights? Most non-NUFC fans I know only watch Newcastle week in week out on Match of The Day and many of them see him as one of the most promising wingers in the country, which personally I don't think he is.

I'd rather pay 60k to Dunne than most of the 60k/week earners we've had in recent years Smith, Viduka, Barton, Dyer, Parker, Duff,Emre etc. Viduka is vital to the way the team operates and you know it! Viduka is on £80,000 a week ... according to the Telegraph.

Cuellar was voted SPL player of the year if I recall correctly, although he did only cost around £2.5 million. If we were to come in with a bid of say £3 million and Smith I could see a deal taking place. Of course, Smith's wages would be quite a considerable issue. If Smith was willing to accept he has no future here would he accept £40,000 a week for example?

I can't see Smith going anywhere. He'll be used in the Carling Cup, against much lesser teams in the FA Cup and I can honestly see him turning into a Carr/Babayaro type player who will probably either rot away in the reserves or be sent out on loan until his contract expires simply due to his wages and Keegan seeing him for what he is.

It is understood the 22-year-old midfielder, accompanied by Dinamo Zagreb vice-chairman Zdravko Mamic, was on Tyneside on Tuesday to discuss a prospective move to St James' Park. Modric visited the club's Darsley Park training headquarters after holding talks with executive director (football) Dennis Wise and vice-president (player recruitment) Tony Jimenez at the stadium. Reports from Croatia have suggested the left-sided player is on the verge of completing a £20million move to Newcastle, although Dinamo value him at some £5million in excess of that. Either fee would smash the club record £17million they paid for England striker Michael Owen almost three years ago, and it remains to be seen to what extent owner Mike Ashley is prepared to fund manager Kevin Keegan's rebuilding programme. The club's negotiators would hope for some movement on the asking price, although the player's wage demands too are likely to be significant.
