  1. McLaren would be a horrible appointment. Pardew's left but the attitude is the same. NOthing has changed. I said this from the start.

Fuck! Wish i'd listened to you and never wanted him out  :'(

    Bring back al pards

  2. In regards to McClaren - he took the Derby job to lick his wounds, has he really repaired his reputation though? He was mediocre to poor the last time he was in the Prem, a couple of seasons of continental football aren't gunna change that. s*** choice.

A couple of seasons of continental football is better than a lifetime of shit stuck in one country/culture. The ONLY reason I'd reluctantly give McLaren a chance to show what he can do is the fact that he's managed abroad. It's his only saving grace imo.

  3. Riviere has been totally gash at everything apart from holding the ball up in forward positions and passing to a teammate. On that merit alone he gets a start ahead of Gouffran, Obertan and Ameobi.

  4. Re: "Summer Spending"

There's a very basic perception that spending money equates to ambition, and it makes everything okay. Yeah, money spent on players bought at the chief scout's whims (and I have enough goodwill towards Carr), with little input from the manager, with no formation or style of play in mind for them to fit into and with no regard to the acquisitions' relation to the attributes of their new teammates.

It's not the money, it's the improvisation, expediency, make-it-up-as-you-go mentality and incompetence of the administration. Nobody with any professional dignity would appoint Carver, effectively rendering the club managerless for the final 4 months of the season. Really, his predecessor, chancer-in-chief Alan Pardew, was the perfect face for this club in this state.

One of the few hints of a bright idea to emanate from the club recently was the intimation that we might need a Director of Football; somebody to give even a pretence of planning, seriousness and professionalism to the outfit. Naturally faced with the prospect of consistent sporting demands even vaguely threatening to detract from the institution's purpose - Ashley's personal gain - this deteriorated into the farce of the job being given to one of the (decrepit, quasi-senile and barely literate) boys.

I'd accept us spending less money than we already do, provided we made sure we knew what we were doing beforehand.

    Top post

  5. I'm convinced (and not in a banter way) that we either haven't done much training since Pardew rocked up, or that our training methods consist of running around a bit for fitness, and a 20 minute 5-a-side session to go along with gym work and "match preparation". We are lacking on so many fronts, and for almost 4 years now we don't seem to have addressed any of them. Krul's kicking, set pieces, movement of the front 2 or 3, midfield shape and depth etc..etc..

It's no wonder most players have regressed under the current regime, and when you're a bang average sod like Gouffran, that regression is much more evident and damaging to the team.

  6. If there's any defence whatsoever for Gouffran, since day one he's been played completely out of position, he's a second striker and was a half decent one in France.

Becasue the lad puts a shift in, Pardew tried to turn him into a defensive winger. He can run up and down a wing a little, but can't cross, beat a man or defend. It's blatantly obvious that he's not suited to the position we're playing him in to everyone other than the f***ing cretins playing him there.

Shot of confidence, playing in a p*ss poor team - he had the makings of a decent signing and a 3rd choice striker. Stick his name into YouTube, he used to have good movement and could finish chances playing with confidence. Embarrassing how we've turned him from decent to completely s**** in 2 years.

The only genuinely good moments he's had tbh were his through ball to Remy when we won 1-0 away at Spurs, and a good turn and shoot goal against Leeds (iirc?).

That open goal last minute miss against WH sums him up.

  7. For me his lack of ability in holding it up is one of the biggest reasons he's not a main centre forward. It's perfectly reasonable to expect your striker to be able to hold chest high balls up once in a while.

While it was a foul in that instance.. what happened to Falcao on Saturday happens to Ayoze 6x during a match at least.

He's still a young lad and that might come with age. For now he needs to move position. Cabella and him upfront was the stupidest thing next to playing Raylor CM.

This is the main thing. With all our problems as a footballing unit, the horrendous coaching and lack of team spirit on show, Ayoze's inability to hold the ball up like a prime-time Aguero or Drogba is the last thing I would like at tbh. He's clearly immensely talented, and has been a breath of fresh air in an otherwise dull and depressing season.

  8. Funny how I got stick just last week for saying Perez isn't suited to this position and needs to be moved.

    :anguish:

You're not the only one with eyes mate. It's clear as day that Perez isn't a number 9. You got stick for saying he was completely useless at holding the ball up which is rubbish. He isn't the best, but he certainly is far from useless at doing that. He is much better utilized with the ball at his feet running at defenders, that's for sure.

  9. Riviere does an OK job of holding the ball up. Probably the best use for him at the moment, as he seems rubbish at everything else with his confidence down to below zero.

He simply MUST start ahead of Gouffran, with Ayoze and Cabella. We don't have any other options at the moment.

  10. Stevie G wankfest goodbye at Wembo CANCELLED

Loving this result. Couldn;t give a shit about Liverpool or Villa, but the fact that captain fantastic won't be winning the cup on his birthday farewell is absolutely magnificent.
