  1. Theres no law against playing two CB's who aren't absolute tanks, MYM was strong and athletic enough, they could and should have had a chance to play more together.

Playing 2 ball playing CBs both on the small side has never worked in the PL. It never will, either. PL strikers are superathletes in 2015. Partnering Mapou with a bloke who gets outmuscled and out jumped by Shane Long would never have brought out the best in him.

If you picked out maybe a dozen of the best CB partnerships in the PL, I couldn't think of one like that Colo/MYM partnership

MYM came in at a time when the future of Coloccini at the club was uncertain. If we had lost Coloccini and replaced him directly with MYM, none of this would be an issue now.

  2. I think if Carver is as delusional as he seems then we'll have a job getting any more than three or four points between now and the end of the season. Everything he says makes me feel like I'd rather the club appointed the first person they ran into on the street. There's a good chance they'd know more about how to set a team up than Carver.

Hyperbole aside, I really do worry about us going down. It wouldn't take much tbh.

  3. Congratulations to a set of docile and submissive fans more than happy to lap up the shit sent their way by good old mike and al and jc.

    Fuck off and good night.

  4.

I actually quite like him as a player.

Very good player just lost his way and had the ability coached out of him.

He was making adults look like fools before he was a teen.

    what, like, 12?

    Yup.

    Decent players too.

Ah, right! Thought that was a typo

Did you know people that played against him as a youngster then?

Yes, he grew up a stones throw from me.

We used to play in the local park together (when Leeds would let him)

Nice, is it a case of too much too young?

That said, it's not as if he's tumbled down the leagues.

Possibly, but his family kept him grounded. Don't get me wrong he was driving around let's in an m3 at 18 but he's cool, stayed friends with all the people he grew up with and what not.

I don't know what it is, but he was much more than just a hug the line winter in his youth, could dribble centrally and was a good finisher as well.

Cool, interesting to hear that. Do you think my comparison to Sterling was that way off? I see similarities at times.

I could certainly imagine him playing centrally too. He's certainly a better shooter than he is a crosser that's for sure.

Feel like he just got pushed out there due to his pace, and was told to hug the line by coaches, and it's taken away from his game.

I see the comparison possibly in style, but I think Sterling has the ability to dribble at pace with his head up. Lennon keeps his head down far too long to be effective at creating openings or helping his teammates exploit the space he creates.

  5. Lennon in the middle

All the lad can do is kick and run, I'd be like a lost puppy in the woods in the middle.

Nah! Lennon isn't a kick and chase guy man. That's Theo.

    :serious:

Theo struggles to keep control dribbling at pace. He usually is best when he knocks it forward and then gets there quicker than the defender.

Lennon dribbles with the ball at pace really well, as does Sterling.

Walcott was one of the most devastating midfielders in the league for a few years before his injury. He's light years ahead of Lennon in almost every way.

    This

  6. I doubt he could write with that passion if he didn't support us, surely.

I don't disagree like, but those were his own words. Who was it that writes about us but openly supports someone else? Douglas?

  7. He once answered that he didn't support any particular team in the NE, but has a passion for NE football (and the region in general) iirc? He's from Durham though, so....dunno

  8. Article is as good as we've come to expect from Caulkin. He has his finger on the pulse of the NUFC collective better than anyone else out there in professional media, and he's not even a supporter!

  9. It f***ing stinks. Happiest I've ever been supporting NUFC post Sir Bobby was during our Championship season. Players playing for the shirt, fans all united in support of an ordinary but enough quality when it matters team, winning games and looking to win something - the league and with it promotion. I loved every minute of it. Even when we finished 5th a few years back it didn't feel like we were doing something special or going places, it felt like an anomaly and that we were taking advantage of other clubs f***ing up. The football was really poor too, despite the Pardew apologists who would say otherwise. Even when we won 6 on the spin or something it wasn't that great to watch.

The day we got that result we needed at home to Forest, when Enrique scored....that was probably the last time I felt the intensity of willing us onto a result that could MEAN something for us. Maybe the QPR away game when we secured survival but the circumstances were so different.

  10. Commentator yesterday wouldn't stop banging on about how Pardew likes his players to express themselves and enjoy their football with flashes of brilliance, flicks and tricks, he love all that pards apparently.
