  1. If he goes I will be quite happy to go on what the club has to say about it. It may for example speak in terms of praise and understanding which would make me think he has legitimate private reasons to leave. It may say very little other than confirming his departure. In that case I think we can draw inferences from the relative silence.

His time here has given no suggestion that he would act without the utmost professionalism. That alone buys him the benefit of the doubt until the situation has been resolved one way or the other.

  2. I give up, I've got to ask. How are you getting these players, especially for these prices? Why on earth isn't anyone else in for them? Why are they coming? Cheeky happy hour with Pardew? All expenses night out at in the Goose? A tour of Longbenton? I'm baffled.

Despite the stick those at the top get, we clearly have a top notch recruitment team. Hasn't always been the case but we've clearly learned. Apart from when it comes to appointing managers.

Actually it's not so much the fact you're getting these players - regardless of your current position, a club like Newcastle should be aiming for this standard of players. I'm just confused why it seems as though no other clubs are aware of all these players going for cheap. It's just bizarre. IIRC didn't you get Cabaye on the cheap without any sort of competition? There's good recruitment, then there's that.

Thats changing, we ave seen that already this transfer window. I don't think we were the only ones in for Debuchy but he had pretty much already agreed to come to us and wanted to join up with Cabaye, we lost out on Remy, if M'vila was a target for us we lost out on him and there was plenty of others in for him, Mbiwa was being tracked by Arsenal amongst others, we got in first and our French layers also helped, Gouffran I'm not so sure abut, Ssisoko has had other clubs chasing him, if we get him then we have simply got there first and possibly helped by our French players, Haidara is also being tracked by others, if we get him it would have been because we got there first.

Simply put us getting there first and our current French squad is what is separating us from everyone else.

    in a nutshell.

Two men. Cabaye and Ben Arfa. IMO.

Aye, I actually think that both Benny and Cabs have been instrumental in the process of tapping up these players. Without them I doubt some of these would consider us.

Completely ingoring all the hard work our scouting team have done, the set up we have created in France and the relationship with the agents we have.

    Aye the players signed them.

Not ignoring the scouts at all. It's one thing to identify these players, and it's another to get them to sign. When they see how well Cabaye and Ben Arfa have done here, and heard how much they're enjoying it, gives them an extra incentive. Also both have shown they can hold down their places in the national side playing for NUFC.

Mbiwa pointed out that we were the only club who showed real interest in him. I don't think it's much more complicated or mysterious than that. Carr has proved himself a top notch scout. A scout isn't just for spotting talent, but for having and keeping contacts throughout the world of football that give you an advantage when it comes to recruiting players who are sought-after hot properties.

  5. f***ing hell, we do have a way of signing very highly rated players for absolutely f*** all don't we?

If Colo stays this will have been a stunning window.

You have to figure that three men in central midfield is pretty much a no-brainer from here on. Tiote, Cabaye, Anita and Sissoko... genuine competition for places... gonna be f***ing weird having players on the bench who aren't completely hopeless.

Poor Bigirimana. He's not even going to be able to get a place on the bench

The minute Sissoko signs, if he signs, Bigi should be loaned out to a top half Championship club.

I think in the long term Tiote will be sold, on this seasons performances rightly so.

I have no problem with that. If he goes in the summer, Bigi should be ready to make the step up. He's already very close so he should continue to play first team football for the remainder of this season.

  8. Pardew must have had influence on the spending spree as well. He must have pointed out just how much of a weak link Simpson and Williamson were. He was probably told that he had to make do with our youngsters at the start of the season, and practically told us as much.

Hopefully we've maneuvered ourselves into a position from which we can start to win matches again and build on last season, next season.

  9. Credit where credits due

    We end January with

    Debuchy

    Mbiwa

    Gouffran

    Haidara

    Sissoko

Then a "Ashley " would not be out of order

All he's done is what any Premier League owner should. That doesn't deserve special attention, it should be the norm.

I disagree. Any PL chairman whose club is in a perilous position like ours would have spent a lot of money bringing in several players to try to survive. What we have done is bring in 5 maybe 6 quality players for very little money. The work that Graham Carr, Llambias, Charnley and obviously Ashley himself have done this winter has been absolutely monumental. If the window closes and we're 4 or 5 players up then he will have gone a long way towards correcting the fuck up of the summer.

  10. This can't be football related. Just can't. If it was football related, he wouldn't have played against Norwich and Reading imo. It also can't be illness related, as he'd have been gone by now.

Just fucking resolve it one way or another so we can know where we stand and just move on trying to win football matches.

  11. At one point in the corner flag, and still gets out

Aye. It;s all about decision making rather than ability. Such small margins in football. Boot that out for a corner or a throw in and put pressure on your team. Of course sometimes that is necessary, but having the presence of mind to take the pressure off and transition onto the front foot is an attribute worth it's virtual weight in gold! Very Colo-like.

  12. Pardew to start him and Taylor on the bench and play Williamshit on Tuesday?

    :pards:

I actually think we have enough time to work with him by the time Tuesday rolls around. We've spent this money to keep us up, and that task starts with the 6 pointer at Villa. Also, it's not like we've brought in players who have been out of action/on a winter break. They are all fit to go and played games last week.

  13. Just imagine

                            Krul

                  Colo              Mbiwa

    Dbuchy          Sissoko              Santon

              Cabaye              Anita

    Benny              Cusse              Gouffran

Nice, although i'd replace Cusse with Cisse and it's a tossup between Anita or Marv for me.

I think Anita's style of play merits him being in there, as we'll have enough creativity with HBA, Cabaye and Gouffran in there. Marveaux is a tad lightweight for CM and doesn't do as much running as the dutchman. You're looking at a fairly balanced powerhouse of a midfield there imo.
