  1. I really want to see Shearer given a chance. I think he has something about him , same as Hughes, that would make a strong manager. Plus he is local and we seem to do best under people who know the area and he likes attacking football. I dont think he would stand for any s**** but I think he would make sure the setup was sorted before he agreed to come.

How do you know he likes attacking football???  his most successful time as a player was when he was managed by Dalglish, someone Shearer thinks the world of,  for all you know Shearer could set his teams up and play like KD did,  won trophies but not exactly wonderful attacking football!!!

Say you what? Do people judge football figures from one-liners printed in the press such as "the dour and pragmatic Dalglish"? Did you not watch Blackburn Rovers play under him? Did Shearer not score 30+ goals in every one of his seasons with Blackburn? Did Shearer and Sutton not have one of the most successful strike partnerships in the PL era? Sure it wasn't "slit your own throat gung go swashbuckling all guns blazing kawabunga" football! But it certainly wasn't boring, and his teams knew how to attack, defend and move the ball around as a unit.

Anyways, on topic, I think Shearer WILL make a very good manager one day, but he should only manage NUFC when he decides he's ready.

  2.

Would both sides of the argument accept that there's no right or wrong when it comes to this argument? I think this also applies to the Shepherd vs. Ashley argument as well, whereby 2 men in charge of the club at different times displayed some positives to benefit the club as well as certain levels of ineptitude which have damaged it.

It's all grey areas, and we can debate till we're all blue in the face. Would be nice to leave out the personal sniping if so.

  3. Not one comment about asking the fans to show their support for the team and the players during the course of the game :thdn:

    exactly!

whoever has written/decreed the above trying desperately to pretend there is no agenda except supporting Newcastle United, the football club. could have fooled me

  4. PRESS RELEASE

Newcastle United supporters have at last come together to fight for the future of their football club. By uniting together we feel we can bring about the future success on the field that we are desperate to enjoy. We respect all fans but believe that suggestions of the fans raising £400m are totally unrealistic and unfeasible. We feel that such a plan will never be realised and only acts as an unnecessary diversion to what we need to do with our club in such a perilous position. Fans have to come together and work to help sort out the current mess, then hopefully we’ll be able to look to a future where everyone whether inside or outside the club, will pull together with the one common aim of a successful Newcastle United.

    1. NUSC is an organisation set up by Newcastle fans to give fellow supporters a collective voice in relation to all things Newcastle United.

    2. NUSC is first, second, third….for the fans and name of Newcastle United, we don’t hate cockneys or any other nationality! We only hate what has been done to our club and want a solution to the current mess as soon as possible.

    3. NUSC was set up following a packed public meeting of supporters on Tuesday 16th September 2008 which was brought about by an avalanche of requests for a fans organisation to be established.

    4. NUSC recognises that the current situation at NUFC cannot be of long-term benefit to NUFC and therefore calls for that situation to be resolved by the present owner disposing of his interest in the club to somebody/organisation who has the long-term interests of the club at heart.

    5. Alternatively/In the meantime – NUSC calls upon the present owner to take immediate action to remedy the situation NUFC finds itself in.

    6. Until such time as 4/5 takes place, NUSC calls upon all Newcastle supporters to withdraw their financial support for Mike Ashley by boycotting all Ashley retail outlets, both inside and outside the stadium.

    7. By his actions Mike Ashley has given up his rights to sit amongst the supporters at away matches and will not be made welcome.

    8. NUSC believes that an organised supporters group is long overdue at NUFC. It has the most passionate and loyal supporters in the country but they are without an organised voice. We have been taken for granted too long and things must now change. NUSC calls upon Newcastle United supporters to rally together under one umbrella group, NEWCASTLE UNITED SUPPORTERS CLUB.

    9. We welcome all forms of peaceful protest against what is happening to our club and encourage all supporters to continue in the same spirit that was shown at the Hull City match.

    10. NUSC representatives will distribute free newsletters to all supporters before the Blackburn match, containing info on how to join NUSC and more details on the aims of NUSC.

    11. Visit www.newcastleunitedsupportersclub.com for further details of YOUR supporters club.

  5. NVA Management:

“We have a big plus in the immediate past manager of the club, Kevin Keegan who has supported Nigerians bid to buy Newcastle. He loves the club with great passion and he is ready to do anything for the club to remain in the Premiership. He told me he is in support or our bid to buy the embattled club,” Nathaniel said.

  9. I spoke yesterday with a friend of mine who is the chairman of a premiership club.

His interpretation of what has transpired is interesting.  This man has had dealings with MA and describes him as someone, in my opinion,  not to be trusted. He sees KKs resignation as a courageous move. He believes that KK loves and feels for the club and the fans and that he felt strongly that the direction of the club under Ashleys leadership was not good.  He strongly believes that Keegan quit not through petulance as some have claimed but to expose Ashley and his plans.  He said that he thought that this was Keegans way of trying to save the club. He said that in view of KKs financial position, i.e in need of money, it was a really courageous move on his part.

With Ashleys Sports Direct empire suffering  the way it is could cause a knock on effect to NUFC.

That sounds far more plausible than a lot of the other theories we've heard.

If this does turn out to be true, and KK's walkout leads to us being taken over by a wealthy individual/group who inject money and lead us to sustainable long term success, the 3rd coming could yet turn out to represent the most enduring part of Keegan's toon legacy.

Tell you what, if this turns out to be true, I'll even change my tune about Keegan, and will ultimately agree with you (and HTT) 100%.

Having said that, why do you think it's the most plausible explanation?

  10. There were too many fans who get sucked in by all of the promises and media speculation when ashley came in, so much so that they thought Newcastle would rapidly have the success of chelsea. When this success wasn't seen on the pitch, the board was an easy target. To have success there needs to be firm foundations and this is the reason why nufc hasn't seen success for many a year - too many comings and goings, too many minor scuffles blown out of proportion, too many massive promises that were never going to be fulfilled etc etc.

Obviously these problems aren't all down to the fans but too many place too much pressure and expect to see results straight off rather than in a couple of years. With ashley, there was no risk that the club was going to fold in on itself in the foreseeable duration, so patience was needed to see whether the new regimes and setups would die or flower. Unfortunately, after 50+ years of nothing (or so we keep being told), we are hungry for success and feel 'our time is now'. Things were never going to change over night but after the success chelsea saw in abranovich's first season, many thought 'well why hasn't it'.

Keegan's appointment helped to bide ashley with a good few months of time before the masses started to want more, time in which he could get the regimes ironed out and working. Personally I feel the summer transfer window was a success and much better than in recent years - true enough we didnt sign the likes of an owen or a martins, but we got in players that would add some excitment to what was always going to end up a small squad. Creating a bond with fans to ensure that they bought season tickets years in advance was also a positive step forward. It showed ashley that the fans were willing to give him time although some short term success would have been appreciated - maybe UEFA qualification this season. Obviously within the last few weeks/months there have been problems but these were always going to occur, no matter who was driving the ship. Having a fans favourite in keegan may have bought ashley some time but he was always get it in the neck when keegan walked/got the boot. Unfortunately within this short time, a large percentage of fans chose to ignore the positive steps forward in support for their messiah.

All in all, errors were made by everyone connected to the club and if it wasn't for a lack of patience and the hunger to be succesful like chelsea from the fans, in two years time we could have been a stronger force and climbing. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that the same fans will get sucked in by any new owner, fall for the same tricks, soon become impatient and be upon their backs come two seasons time. Its a viscous loop that will continue to rotate until this football club purchasing fad passes (maybe seeing the end of many clubs) or the fans give the club's owners a bit of slack to help build foundations.

  superbly put and thought out. no doubt you will be called deluded and an Ashley apologist, but let it not get to you my son!

  11. Skipper Special: We Need Toon Army More Than Ever

    By Craig Hope

NEWCASTLE United skipper Michael Owen has sent a message to the Toon Army ahead of their Carling Cup showdown with Tottenham Hotspur - "We're in this together and we need you more than ever".

The Magpies are still without a manager as they prepare to face the North Londoners and Owen accepts it's been a difficult period for both players and fans alike.

But the Newcastle captain believes that if any set of supporters are able to inspire a team to victory then it is the Geordie faithful.

"The fans play a massive part in this team, probably here more than anywhere else," he told nufcTV.

"The fans here really can inspire the team to get results.

"The supporters are not stupid. They know that we are in the same boat as them.

"We are in this together and we need them more than ever.

"When we win it's with the help of the fans.

"I think we can sympathise with each other at the moment and hopefully that will get us through and we'll get some results in the meantime."

What a bullshitter! Blatantly held at gun-point by Ashley and forced to say those words so that the fat cockney b****** can fill the stadium. Boycott people!!! Boycott!!

No need to boycott. Go there and support the team. Show you are a fan of Newcastle United Football Club. Mike Ashley will leave anyway.

Oh well. I tried. I'm not a true fan anyway. I just say I am coz people laugh at me, and I like to feel a bit popular lolz. I'd rather see Man U beat NUFC if it really came down to it. Not sunderland though. wankers. lolz

  13. No I don't want him back.

He came back this time, and totally tainted the reputation and image he had built up in the early 90's. Surely what he's done for the club will never ever be forgotten, and is the stuff of true legends. But this love affair is all too corrupted now. Best to avoid it like the plague and just move on.

Plus - imo, he would never EVER walk back into this job again regardless of who the owner is.

  14. Ashley still appears to be intent on selling the club and one former Premier League manager who has spoken to The Journal believes the Newcastle manager’s job is widely regarded as a poisoned chalice.

He said: “Nobody wants to go there, I haven’t spoken to or heard about a single manager who is interested in the job. Who on earth would want a job like that one?

“The owner wants to sell, the supporters are protesting the whole time. The squad is small and the transfer window doesn’t open again for another three months.

“It’s a tough job at any time, let alone now. Newcastle is a special club, but it isn’t a club that is attractive to manage any more. The fans don’t give anyone time to achieve anything there and the people who run it have obviously made some mistakes and want to get out. It looks like a complete mess.”

From today's Journal. Don't think the vocal protests will have made us a more attractive proposition for the future, but time will tell.

oh come on man!! do you want to be known as BogTron or BigJudas from now on? how can you even suggest that you might even slightly (and by slightly i mean a speck of dust) agree with the notion that the fans may have bit off their nose to spite their face.
