  1. i think he wants the club to run as a self-sufficient entity that won't impact upon his or his other business's finances, which means no money from his pockets, no spending before we receive money, no speculate to accumulate, no short-term debt for investments etc. will also see a trimming of expenses like wages or even matchday suits, not many big fees spent, and rougly a one-in, one-out policy on transfers. hence the whinging about it being an expensive seat to sit in and the call for others to put their money into the club. this way he can turn up on matchday and not have to worry about the club at other times.

the net spend on transfers is very worrying at this point, (as it turned out, Coloccini's move was funded by Milner's sale, on balance we've spent little to nothing since ashley arrived), as is the fact he feels the backroom set-up (buy cheap, sell high) is more important than the first team 'coach'. the likes of Jiminez who are there to get us deals like the one that landed us Jonas i'd guess are an exercise in saving money - it's worth the small initial outlay as they'll save you more money than you've spent on one deal, never mind a dozen. for transfers that means it won't happen if the deal is not right for us. not neccessarily bad - but - it means that our criteria for transfers will be based on present and future finance, not just the quality of the player, which will inevitably see us miss out on targets. i also don't necessarily agree with it as, being a midtable side with nothing special to offer, we have to go that extra mile to bring players in. and i'd take a stab that the money saved by using Jiminez will not be allocated toward other transfers. ie - just cos we got guthrie and jonas for £10m less than their worth doesn't mean that £10m is going to go on other transfers, if we feel a club is asking £5m too much for a top drawer player, i think we'd rather miss out than spend half of what we saved elsewhere. just an opinion of course, but one i feel is backed up by reality.

what this means for the team -  i think we'll end up in and around the likes of portsmouth or blackburn, and ashley will put more emphasis on doing well in cups rather than in the league. because it doesn't take so much to go on a brave cup run every other year, while breaking into the top four demands real investment.

no doubt he also wants the club to make a profit and sees player development and future sales from this as one means of achieveing that profit. i also think he is betting on the market value of premiership clubs increasing in the next few years. i don't think he particularly wants to sell and wouldnt sell on a deal that would give him his money back as he feels 3 years down the line he can get better. i think the only thing that might change this is if fan discontent effects his enjoyment in which case he might take a 'money-back' offer.

basically, he is the sam allardyce of club owners -  boring, works to a strict budget, focused on the long-term sometimes at the expense of the present, poor at PR, obsessed with 'systems'.

    nailed

and the sad thing is, there are STILL people who can't see it.

    How sad.

it's so sad. i still can't see it  :weep:

  2. Sky sink to new reporting lows. David Craig "thinks" Alan Oliver has "said".....

It really can't get much worse can it?

"Sky Sports and David Craig believe wholeheartedly that Alan Oliver (top newcastle fan and prize winning sports writer) knows for a fact that Paul Ince is being handed the task of steadying the fast sinking ship that is Newcastle United while club owner downs pints, pisses in the river Tyne and eats Geordie children"

    hmmm...i'd say that's worse  :pow:

  3. Keegan's a great motivator, maybe he would find it easier to have a connection with British players, just as Ramos or Benitez would find it easier to communicate with Spanish-speaking players. It's a possible factor I suppose, but I think Keegan probably wasn't keen on South Americans because he simply didn't know much about them. He's always been a manager who buys household names rather than unearthing players from far and wide.

i see your argument, and i raise you asprilla, ginola, albert, hottiger, srnicek and peter beardsley

in regards to Ginola, he was France`s player of the year that year and was quite well known from playing in the Champions League/European Cup that time with the likes of George Weah, Rai, Le Guen and co for PSG. On top of that he was in the headlines alot that year after being made scapegoat for France not qualifying for the world cup. I don`t think he was as unknown as many people are led to believe

Yes, but we're not talking about unknowns here are we? the thread title brings up the issue of nationality.

  4. all they are interested in is making a profit from the club.

erm........ the club has to be successful to be profitable, no?

and, how does this make newcastle different to any other club? Im sure the owners of the top 4 are doing it for the love of the region and the fans?

erm no actually. The club is currently being run at a profit yet we've had no sign of success for years. That is down to astute dealings in the transfer market and a loyal fan base who continue to put money into the club.

The communication between other boards and their fans is infinitely better than what we are subjected to here because most sensible Chairman, MD's, Directors of football clubs appreciate the importance and the value of communicating with their stakeholders.

The proposed boycott of matches, the club shop etc. will put a big dent in the club's finances if it goes ahead and i believe it could've been avoided if the club's Directors had actually communicated with us via an interview, press conference or question and answer session, which highlights the importance of good communication.

  5. In all honesty....

The signings we have made appear to be top notch signings, for relatively cheap prices. Obviously we cannot judge too much atm but like so far they have been class, especially spiderman.

If Wise is making these sort of signings, Ashley is saving this money, our debts are wiped ( ? )...do we really have anything to complain about the new regime as of yet?

If Keegan didn't like their plans in a way it's tough s****. We'll have someone who does fit into their plans. No one man is bigger than our club, dare I say it not even Shearer. I know this will spark a lot of debate....I just think that even though I too believe we are far from having everything fine and dandy, we are hardly in a crisis and therefore am most likely not going to be protesting, or at least not as extravagantly as a lot of others will be.

    Anyhooo.....

What do you mean dare you say it not even Shearer? Shearer will never be as loved as Keegan is.

Might just be different generations, but Shearer means more to me than Keegan.

    Get out of town.

I can't believe you're questioning that TBH.  If you are 20 or under then at best you have a vague memory of 1 or 2 seasons under Keegan, but you spent the whole of your formative teenage years cheering on Shearer.  Of course for a lot of fans Shearer is more loved than Keegan.  And importantly that applies to younger players too.

*BTW I have no idea how old heza09 is, just voicing my opinion ;)

    I'm 18 mate.

Thing is Shearer is our record goalscorer at the club, and in the Premiership. I don't see how it was such a stupid thign to say no matter what age I am....?

Ah, as I said then, you probably only have a very vague memory of Keegan first time around.  And I agree, it was a perfectly reasonable thing to say.

We are in quite a unique situation having two genuine local legends in recent times. (arguably 3 if you include SBR)

Is Bearsley not a legend? Gazza?

  6. Keegan's a great motivator, maybe he would find it easier to have a connection with British players, just as Ramos or Benitez would find it easier to communicate with Spanish-speaking players. Those were pretty well known players as well though, with the exception of Hottiger possibly. I take your point though, obviously that does disprove the nationality theory.

Didn't Hottiger have a strong world cup in 94?

I remember thinking who? when Albert signed though!

he had the better world cup in 94 iirc. scored twice in one match if im not mistaken

    edit: im on about Albert

  7. Keegan's a great motivator, maybe he would find it easier to have a connection with British players, just as Ramos or Benitez would find it easier to communicate with Spanish-speaking players. 8. Gullitt resigned, even though he would have probably been sacked.

regardless of what some might think of him as a manager, but imo he was the most dignified of the lot mentioned on that list

    bullshit

wow!! enlightenment!! i have seen the light! thanks, i've changed my mind. i disagree with what i said now and think i'm a twatmong

  9. Ok not fast enough, So now we know where the Milner moneys gone to wine and dine movie peeps tosser

is it too much to ask people to think before they type such shit?

maybe it is if you can't think in the first place

  10. if he wants to own it to stand in the crowd, hes one brave fat f u c k e r

it amazes me how people use "fat" as an adjective-stick to beat Ashley with! i bet at least one person among each of your families, close friends, relatives, in-laws, and good people around the world that you know is "fat".

imo it shows that the mongs are lashing out for the sake of it, and have blown things way out of proportion. like "fat" proportions.

  11. Looks like Hull will have a 12th man in the St James' crowd on Saturday. At least I hope these cretins are in a minority.

I back the lads to shock the suicide corps by dealing out a beating to Hull and sending them packing.

Absolutely. I wonder what the atmosphere would be like if we put 3 or 4 past them.

Conversely I wonder what it would be like if they do that to us.

  12. I will be there, and I will be singing my heart out for Keegan; Ashley's not there but I'm sure that little fucker Wise will be.....

ffs man!! sing your heart out for the team!

    that as well!

I have a feeling Ashley will be there.

I hope so. But i doubt it

  13. Passionate Newcastle fans involved with the Toon Ultras have expressed their deep concern over the running and mismanagement of NUFC.

We feel the events at our football club over the past week have been nothing short of disastrous and we put full blame on the shoulders of Mike Ashley. His PR stunts in the past may have previously given him some leeway, but there’s only so much you can push underground before the truth surfaces.

It has become very apparent with the departure of Kevin Keegan that Mike Ashley quite simply does not care about the football club that we as Geordies treat as our religion. Mr Ashley hasn’t and never will be a fan! The constant public wearing of him in a black & white shirt and his presence in the away end have purely been a false act of an allegiance to NUFC!

Ashley’s implementation of this continental approach and rigidness to it ultimately tipped Keegan over the edge. We fully sympathise with Keegan and believe he should have been allowed total control over transfers. In the past even Ashley himself said that this was the case, but recent developments suggest otherwise, counteract this and expose Ashley to be a conniving liar!

We have since been disgusted to see Ashley out parting in New York the day after news had broke there had been a massive rift with the club and our then manager, Keegan. The timing and circumstances couldn’t have been worse and emphasises Ashley’s lack of enthusiasm, eagerness and effort to the football club we love.

Once again our football club has been turned into a laughing stock and we feel as a group that some action must be taken. We fully support the actions outlined in True Faiths/Mags press release, but we also propose additional forms of action -

no disrespect like kane....but more bullshit. shit like the above, and the statement by TF, not to mention the mong banners outside the stadium are only helping to make this club less stable.

  14. Will miss seeing him on the sidelines actually...

i won't to be honest. for some reason, i never really took any notice of him when KK was in charge first time round, and his image on the sidelines reminds me of that game away to villa, the first game after KK resigned the first time. it was a sad day.

thanks for whatever it is that you did terry mac....see ya around

  15. For me boycott is not an option the players need our support and its not their fault this has happened. GET BEHIND THE PLAYERS.

Cannot help myself, but can't understand that blind loyalty at all. Supporting the players? Do you think they support Mikey. People argued the same way, after the appointment of Souness and Fat Sam... Did it help? No.

So you would rather put a further dent in the players' confidence, make the Hull match conditions even more difficult, hence risk losing the 3 points, and possibly more if we go on a bad run, just so you can let big ol' bad Mikey know that ur upset with him? I think Ashley already knows how the fans feel. Going to the game, Hull or any other for that matter, is purely to support that which is the most important thing in all of this, Newcastle United.

  16. Personally, i'm going to boycott the game - the media will pick up on it, and ram it don that useless fat c*** ashley's throat.

Ashley is ENTIRELY at fault, because HE is the absolute retard who put Wise and Jimenez in place.

He's a fat, lying cretin, and has managed the seemingly impossible by making me want Shepherd back.

    when do you turn 14?

Come on, you are the guy who laughs about the most childish jokes on here... :-) If I had to bet on the youngest forum member, my money would be on you!

put your money on it then. go on
