If we bring in an experienced CM who will start regularly there's an argument for it to go to them. Quite abstract at the minute with them being un-named, but Lascelles had already showed that he'll lead regardless; we'll get two for the price of one.

Keegan always said it didn't matter who was captain because a good side needed leaders all over the pitch and the dressing room. So as you say, whether Lascelles gets it or not is irrelevant. It would be good to encourage leadership amongst the entire playing and coaching staff so people can take initiative and make things happen. Pretty sure Rafa subscribes to this school of thought as well, as opposed to the King's reign.

Rafa will give it to Lascelles. No doubt in my mind about that. I'm hardly ever right of course.

i agree with a lot that has been said here but the guy that said Ben Arfa is one of the most talented players we have ever had needs to wake up really. The guy was good but he wasn't a team player and he was no where near as good as some of the players we have had on our books previously id much rather have a Nobby Solano or a Laurent Robert in my team than Ben Arfa.

I'd say this is a massive myth, and even if it were true, the guy still had more natural talent than 99.99% of players we've ever had. Up there with Beardsley and Gascoigne. But again you've still missed the point entirely. Ben Arfa was the only entertainment we had at the time, and he robbed us even of that.

Watched him 3 times last season and on all 3 occasions he was the best player on the pitch.

I don't hate Gouffran. Always feel he's done his best, but that he's just not been that good a player. On the other hand you have Sissoko, who I feel never have bothered at all and is a f***ing c***.

You must have missed him waltzing around the pitch not bothering to pick up his man on several occasions from which the opposition scored. Can't for the life of me remember the most blatant example at the moment but the image in mind is so clear of him totally not doing anywhere near his best.

Don't f***ing sell a player right now unless you get an Andy Carroll offer or are forced to via contractual reasons. It's called common business sense ffs. You're potentially leaving money on the table unless a club buts a sound bid in that meets your valuation. Rafa is not thick, he's not going to sit here and go yeah let's sell Moussa for 5m because he's over rated and s***. He's going to only sanction selling him when someone is desperate enough to pay market prices for premier league players who play for an international team. Out of all our signings in recent years few seem to genuinely work as hard and understand what this club is about then Townsend.  I believe he joined us in the first place as he felt we should be able to stay up, he could get back into the England squad and we would be a fantastic club for him going forward. 

 

We've been relegated.  He's in the prime of his career.  He did his best to keep us here.  He deserves to play in the PL this season. 

 

Comments like yours feed into this notion that football fans but especially Newcastle fans are fickle.
