  1. We need a striker and a wide man first.

    Alan Pardew

    Weaker without Campbell?
  3. 30 shots and didn't score against the likes of Korea, Greece and Mexico. Not saying he isn't a good player, but as a striker you have to score goals. :dowiespin:
  4. Harper goes down like a controlled demolition.
  5. Completely agree with this, his 'backing off' problem is no where near as bad as some make out
  6. I know exactly what you mean, the transfer window shut last night and we still haven't fully strengthened, it's a bloody joke. He isn't really saying that though, it's more a responce to the Edwards tweet. But even still people live in this crazy world whereby they think because a players fee is reported as say £6m then he cost that amount. When in truth you factor in the wages, the agents fee, his signing on fee you will be more than likely looking at between £8-10m. We were promised 35m spent on transfers/wages that is what we're getting. Yes I wish it was 35m on transfers but it isn't. Ba for me seems a great deal but I can't speak on Marveaux because I haven't seen him play. We are taking a more frugal approach and the sooner folk accept that the better, it hasn't diminished the entertainment value in my opinion last year saw some fantastic football and matches. Of course I do appreciate that Wullie has his opinion which would appear to be anti-Ashley so be it, that's his decision. Again though, there's no way wages should be factored into a transfer budget give the price of tickets and the annual TV payment. Don't get me wrong I'm more concerned about the quality of player we sign rather than how much of the Carroll money we spend, but I still agree with Wullie on this point. Yes and what about the fact we paid Premier League wages in 09-10. Some money will have had to go on covering that which I bet won't have been cheap. Yes he's a penny pincher but it's this constant drivel about 'spending the 35m'. We've signed 3 good players already with 2 months to go, I'm happy. We still brough in nearly fifty thousand every week and received a substantial chunk of TV money, I highly doubt we took a fundamental loss. You appear to conflating my argument's. I've said it before, I'm more concerned about the quality of player we're bringing in as opposed to how much of the 35 million we spend. With that I'm happy with the buisness we've done so far. However I agree with Wullie on the point that wages should not be taken into account in spending the Carroll budget.
  7. Gardner reminds me of a more energetic Nolan, average player that has a knack of being in the right place at the right time.

  10. We've got 35 million quid in the bank, the fee for Zog shouldn't be a problem. Don't get me wrong, if we find similar quality for a cheaper price I wouldn't complain, but if we settle for someone of the Treacy ilk using the fee as a justification it shows where Ashey's 'intent' lies. All ifs and buts at the moment though.
  11. Or that his knee can be f***ed up at any time and he may be out for a long time? Any player can be out for a long time, injuries happen in football. When was the last time Ba was out for a considerable length of time due to injury? 09-10, he played 17 of 34 games that season. That was down to Ibesevic and Obasi being first choice at Hoffenheim
  12. Has he been that bad? Arshavin I mean
  13. Barcelona are set to unveil big signing(s) tomorrow, so we'll see. Sanchez surely?
  14. Erding gets a hard time too considering how many have seen him play.
  15. I think they'll be tough to beat next season, but going by the style of player they're purchasing their football will be turgid as f***.
  16. 7th-8th would represent good progress, it's a big jump in quality above that.
  17. Ba doesn't have a particularly bad injury record mind. It's a long season though. We definetly need another forward, no matter which way you look at it.
  18. Ba doesn't have a particularly bad injury record mind.
  19. Would Erdinc be good enough in your opinion? Pardew sees Ba as our top striker, his comments couldn't be clearer to me. Aye, he clearly sees him as the out-and-out goal scorer which would explain why we appear to be chasing, quicker strikers, decent at linking up play.
  20. You're wasting your time man. As far as I'm concerned, a decent striker and a right winger on top of what we've already signed, along with replacing those sold important enough to need replacing would be a decent summer.
  21. Don't think he's ready as yet for the PL (as in starting week in, week out). But give him a season or two and the mackems will probably have a great player on their books Disagree, it's a poor move for both parties. Wickham because he needs somewhere where he can develop, where there will be little pressure on him. Sunderland because they need someone who can bang them in on a regular basis.
  22. I don't, the last thing either club need.
