We didn't have a choice with Ba. Cabaye we really should have got a lot more from than what we got. Set us back so much that sale man.

The Carroll sale was worse though, because it was the symbol of what the club had become. The club forced him to put in a transfer request to get the money for him ffs.

Ba had that release clause but only because we structured his wages so it was based on playing

That was Ashley doing what Ashley does best, thinking he could save a few quid in the short term but we allowed a £20m+ player go for way less

Comes under the fair comparison regs I think I saw a previous poster say.

    Is that definite?

Not sure how a friendly tournament can be covered?

I mean even if it is then what's to stop us selling a player to a Saudi club for a daft price? They can't regulate the fees clubs pay for players

If the owners want to then there will be creative ways around it

This is the bit that I'm still not fully understanding. In the hypothetical scenario above, can the PL stop the funds being paid into the club's bank account if it doesn't agree with the sponsorship deal? Pretty sure that isn't legal.

Surely they only have jurisdiction in respect of what the club spends its money on, and by definition that is an argument that can only be had months down the line once the financial statements have been drawn up?

They won't be able to stop the funds is my understanding but when it comes to the FFP calculation, they'll only include the amount they deem to be "fair"

Fair enough but I still think it's ruined the game.  Takes away far more than it gives - Championships and Relegations are now being decided by some dude in front of a TV screen.

I think it could help by removing the benefit of the doubt going to the ref

They basically look for every reason to justify why the ref gave it even if it's wrong

Not so sure tbh. I feel like refs give more decisions these days in the knowledge that if it’s a total fuck up, VAR will change it.

Regardless, without VAR I would have been able to accept the referee had just got it wrong in normal time and we didn’t have to stop the game for three minutes to watch endless replays for the same outcome.

Tbf in normal time I thought it was a pen cos of how his arm was up
