  1. Anyone know what the updated Premier League net spend table looks like for the last 3/4 years? Must be sickening. Somebody worked out the last five years from the Transfermarkt figures: https://www.givemesport.com/1453518-the-premier-league-table-based-on-net-spend-over-the-past-five-seasons Somewhere in that article is a breakdown by year. It doesn't include any transfers this summer, so you can add - what - 65M Euros for Man U or so, bit more for Spurs, take nearly 200M Euros off for Chelsea etc.

Who’s the poor sod who only counts as 0.7?
  3. Was class v Man City in CL but that's the only time I've seen him and I'd imagine that's as good OL played all season. Assume he'll replace Sissoko so it's win-win. Think a lot of Spurs fans would want him paired with Sissoko. He's supposed to be replacing Moussa Dembele in principle.
  4. Yep, same with Maguire. Will be a similar sort of fee. They’ve turned down 70m for Maguire today from Man Utd. Hence the debate. Homegrown will play a significant part.

There are many arguing that France should have had a penalty for that handball under the new rules. It's a perfect illustration of how FIFA have fucked up yet again - a clear example of a forward deliberately blasting the ball point blank at the arm to try to get a penalty.

Always enjoy watching the host country go out.
  7. Isn't that at least the second time he's done that over there now?

As I understand it they did sort it out, just with a result that’s bollocks.
  9. I am behind a universal boycott of Arsenal, tbh.

Yeah. Although i’m not convinced the lino would have flagged - I didn’t spot the offside until the replay and it was tight in real time. The ref just fucked it up. Crazy storms here and flash flood warnings so the satellite signal’s gone .

Again, it’s not VAR nonsense, it’s reffing nonsense. With no VAR, there’s a goal that shouldn’t have stood. With VAR there’s an opportunity to get the decision right. We just need better refs.

Fuck me, how did they not disallow that?

US could do with another goal here, they’re playing really well. The Swedish press has been consistent and sporadically effective, but it’s leaving a lot of space elsewhere on the pitch and it feels like only a matter of time before the US make a really incisive break. O’Hara should be pushing on more, particularly outside Heath. I really like Lavelle. Never been convinced by Alex Morgan though, and i’ve not seen anything today to dispel that.

Part of me agrees, part of me figures that it just lets refs apply their usual biases unchecked. I'm broadly in favour of VAR, and one thing I will say is that it's removed any doubt over whether the officials are frequently incompetent. That ref blowing for time when she did in the Scotland game was grossly incompetent and a subversion of the game on a fundamental level. As for goalkeeping at penalties in general, it's just gone exactly the way these changes always do. Referees (by and large) suddenly start applying the rules properly (shirt-tugging at corners, 6-second rule, encroachment - whatever) and everyone gets annoyed because they can't, well, cheat any more. There's a flurry of controversy, then it dies down, then refs gradually go back to letting things slide again. Often to the benefit of the home team/big team. for me while I agree the rule should be enforced for the blatant off the line things I also view it as ultimately not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, most penalties are scored regardless of how far off the line the goalkeeper is and so it should be left to the officials discretion whether a retake is warranted. Things like the french penalty retake on monday there was clearly no advantage gained by the nigerian goalkeeper being a bit off her line since Renard just missed should not be retaken Absolutely. Comes back down to where and how we apply VAR, and whether the people analyzing the vid have an ounce of brain and wit. The results so far are mixed.
  15. People are idiots, you know that.

Bi Xiaolin is well-named. Edit: Rosalia Pipitone. OK I'll stop now. Edit Edit: OK, the Thai team is seriously worth a look. It seems to be a genuine 50:50 mix of men and women. The #4 has a moustache FFS.

I searched for Flip and VAR. Had a suspicion there'd be something.
  19. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48461639 This all comes across as vaguely depressing.

Time travel and alternative timelines to regain all of the Infinity Stones. All that and we all got to see her drop her knickers in the fountain. ... wow. My wife is Villa. Solidarity, brother. Nah. My wife maybe a mackem but she's not some daft fat fuck who'd take a shit in a fountain, like. Should definitely have included a safety smiley. Going to be a rough day tomorrow, mind.
