Cheaper to drink tinneys in traffy square than pay London pubs prices marra You laugh, but that's clearly a major factor.
  6. Well quite. We will Pochettino has lost like 17 times this season with a lineup that cost on average £300million. “Miracle” worker though Got Spurs to a CL final. And it's hot shit anyway. Cba to find their most appeared XI but the strongest is arguably: Lloris - 12m Sanchez - 42m Alderweireld - 11.5m Vertonghen - 12m Trippier - 3.5m Sissoko - 30m Eriksen - 11m Rose - 1m Son - 22m Kane - Nowt Alli - 5m Total - £150m Even if you add in Lucas (22m), Lamela (25m) and Aurier (22.5m) for their 3 cheapest players it's still wildly inaccurate. Maybe he's stuffing 50's into the players kegs but that'd be a lot of notes. I'm not trying to even enter this argument, but wasn't most of that team purchased like prior to the most recent super inflation of transfer fees? Literally honest question. I recall at the time thinking Son was expensive as fuck in context to other deals. There are a couple of points there. If we're looking at other transfer fees in that window then we see: De Bruyne - 55M Di Maria (to PSG) - 44.3M Sterling - 44M Martial - 36M Benteke - 32.5M Otamendi - 32M Depay - 31M Firmino - 29M Schneiderlin - 25M So was he expensive as fuck? In retrospect, absolutely not. In addition, I think you kinda reinforce my point. I suspect that you thought he was expensive as fuck at the time because he wasn't as high profile or proven, so it seemed like a lot of money to pay. We have had to take those kind of risks because - like I say - we haven't been able to compete with the other five for wages and/or fees for the proven stars. Our other buys that window? Alderweireld for 11.5M, N'Jie for 8.3M, Wimmer for 4.3M and Trippier for 3.5M. Two absolute bargains, one guy we managed to shift on for a significant profit, and one of those risks that didn't pay off. Poch has done an extraordinary job.

Maybe he's stuffing 50's into the players kegs but that'd be a lot of notes. It also ignores the biggest problem - up till now we've been completely unable to compete on wages for the top or even second tier players. Every good player who is available for transfer knows there's five teams in the UK alone that will offer appreciably more money. You end up having to pay comparable transfer fees for lesser players and hoping that you can improve them enough to compete. We get Davinson Sanchez and Foyth, West Ham get Issa Diop - all good young centre-backs, but we're just hoping that they develop. Liverpool got Van Dijk, Man City got Laporte - finished articles.
  8. I would have though that would be Burnley?
  9. Is there another one of these threads? Could have sworn I did one. This is (very mildly) interesting too: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/may/15/premier-league-season-review-predicted-happened
  10. Playing devils advocate, I guess that if you 'reserve' 6 stadiums on a shortlist for the 25th June 2020 then that would restrict their ability to host a pop concert/rugby game or whatever. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/may/16/uefa-handed-azerbaijan-europa-league-final-baku-chelsea-arsenal As Doyle suggests, the principle of spreading it around is a good one. It would pretty much always be in the same countries if you took team nationality into account. The main problem is Azerbaijan is a fuckup on a number of levels.
  11. Yeah, pretty dull. Neither team look particularly good but Leeds obviously using the width better. I do feel like removing the away goals rule doesn’t help.
  12. On a purely selfish note, thank fuck, as my wife is Villa and it's 9:30am here. Would have been a really shitty day if they'd have lost.
  13. We have. He just wanted to stay/they wanted more money/bit of both.
  14. Are there more self-entitled fans in British football than those cunts? I’m going to assume you’ve never seen RAWK.
  15. I presume that would mean no CL for Arsenal if they don’t catch us? In that case, I wholeheartedly approve.

Please tell me you just made that up.
  17. I think my adrenaline's finally running out. I've been up since 4:45am. Looking forward to calling my old man tomorrow morning, at least in part to check if his heart hasn't given out. Thanks to everyone who gave me a shout - Mike, Pata, OCK, Deuce, sorry if I missed anyone. I realize a fair few of you are feeling as shitty as I felt when Origi scored, so genuine commiserations there. I can't see us beating Liverpool (just because they're better than us), but it's a one-off game and anything can happen. Now I'm coming down I can't help but worry about what will happen when our cunts meet their cunts before/after the game.
  18. This would be exactly my thinking if I wasn't a Spurs fan, tbh.
  19. He's had a rough couple of year since Lebron left. This goodwill goes out the window soon as the Browns take the field. Forgot the Browns are hot shit as well now. Indians are good and they play in a division filled with little league teams. He just went to like 15 consecutive NBA finals... Yo fuck leffe186[/member] . Out here feeling good for him. Howay Deuce, you're too nice. I swear on my life I was just about to reply that actually the Indians are shit when Jose Ramirez hit a walk-off two-run homer. I'm off out to buy a lottery ticket. Hey, the Indians only have Ramirez, Francisco Lindor and starting pitchers, and two of those are out. Plus the Twins are actually good. We're not getting to the post-season this year. Plus IIRC OBJ hasn't even reported yet, and you know, it's the Browns. Plus Liverpool absolutely have our number, and we're going to get gubbed. I really just want to be able to make a Villa (my wife)/Spurs flag with a European Cup in the middle.
  20. http://i68.tinypic.com/2yl6zoi.jpg So here's the thing. I don't know much about the specific incidents here other than the Spurs ones. Two of ours were errors by the refs, but clearly we have players who dive, so I can't complain about us getting four. But Liverpool getting zero yellows for diving is insane.

  22. Fucking hell that’s sad, urgh. Liverpool winning the league sends out a message to your on club they too can win the league without being bankrolled by a terrorist state. If that’s what makes you feel your own club not winning the league more bearable though hey, that’s what it’s all about no... Sorry, but I just don’t get this kind of rationalising! Let's not pretend that Liverpool haven't spent ridiculous money in order to compete too like; their squad cost about £550 million - that's hardly a message of hope to the rest of the league they're no underdog story like Leicester so Man City's spending becomes significantly less relevant in terms of deciding who you want to win it You're comparing chalk and cheese there. Liverpool's spending has been in line with the club's income thanks to some massive sales (not just Suarez and Coutinho either, they got £40m back for Ings and Solanke), certainly not an extravagance. Over the last 5 years, on a net basis they've spent less than Everton have. Well yes and no. An interest-free loan from their owners is funding the stadium expansion, and FSG pumped in significant money when buying the club to convert debt into equity and claw back the funds spent by Hicks and the other guy. They have always had more revenue available than most clubs, for example, nearly three times as much as Everton. Sure, we can talk about net spend on transfers, but it doesn't really mean as much as the money available to pay wages, which correlates far more consistently with success. FSG are managing Liverpool sustainably, and that's commendable, but given that they generate enormous commercial income that's not really too difficult. Unless you're Hicks/Gillett. Even when they weren't great their revenue was far above ours, and last year they overtook Chelsea and Arsenal. It's obviously more natural than Chelsea nd Man City's success, of course.
