It's trash. If you have to check it for 30-60 seconds using technology and endless replays, it's not clear enough to get VAR in to the frame. They clearly stated that any situation taken to VAR would be if the ref had make a clear mistake. He didn't here. Awful use of it. Terrible. That took one image. It took 2 minutes to get that image and the lines drawn though. Is that clear an obvious? They had to zoom in at rate where the pictures were blurred and drawn thin lines in order to show it being offside. There’s certainly an argument to have about “clear and obvious”. Or about the laws of offside. Here’s the thing though - he was offside.
-
There has to be some leeway like. You're taking away the joy of scoring when you have to hold off celebrating just in case your striker's lace came undone and was dangling offside. Why does there have to be leeway? That just allows the sort of subjective decisions that favour big clubs and home teams.

Yeah, I can live with offsides being strictly VARed. It’s frustrating, but it’s objective and fair.

He’s coming on in injury time, isn’t he FFS.

Any reason why? Find it harder to think of reasons why not tbh.

Go go Captain Aguero!

Now we can make a more educated guess on this. I really don't think you'll drop - like last year, there are enough shite teams to keep you up. I mean Bruce, sure, but there is more talent in your squad than in at least four or five other teams. Burnley are uninspiring, Norwich are just winging it, Sheff Utd are making a big step up. Then there's Brighton and Southampton, who've spent some money but will be at the bottom. You could add in Villa too, although their manager seems a bit more clued up and they really did go bonkers mental with money. I gave you a 3. As in you might go down three times out of ten. That might even be a bit harsh. Bruce is not great but he's not a total wassock - no Carver, or JFK. He has enough to work with to keep you ticking over - you'll stay ahead of the shite but get lamped by the good teams. I think that will be enough.

Don't take this badly Kaka, but if you think that's the reason Carroll was brought back, I have some Florida swampland available you might want to take a look at.

Never again. You know research has confirmed it's bad for your health, don't you?

Wan-Bissaka wasn't addressing a serious need? He was addressing the most serious need. No more Ashley Young at RB. Signing a RB was priority number one this summer. He was, that was precisely my point. Wow, you must have been more rattled by this window than we thought . You realize I was supporting you, don't you?!

NBC's (I know, I know) transfer grades: https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2019/08/08/premier-league-transfer-grades/ Arsenal B+ Aston Villa B+ Bournemouth C Brighton C+ Burnley D Chelsea C- Crystal Palace D Everton B+ Leicester B Liverpool C Man City B Man U B+ Newcastle C Norwich D Sheff Utd C+ Southampton C+ Spurs A- Watford B+ West Ham B+ Wolves C I think you have to give Arsenal more credit because the expectations were so low at the beginning of the window. Ramsey had gone for nothing, and the thinking was that without CL they would (a) be reluctant to spend big and (b) the big guys wouldn't want to go there. I think they've had an amazing window. You could ask whether they've sorted out their defence, but it's not like they did nothing, and Saliba could be a great long-term get. You have to grade Aston Villa highly simply on the basis of the extraordinary amount they've spent, although obviously it remains to be seen whether it will work. All they will want to do is stay up, for now. Bournemouth probably did enough, Burnley probably didn't, and God only knows what Brighton will look like. Palace kept Zaha and at least picked up a handful of mediocre-but-probably-well-suited players. Everton and Leicester grades are fair, Liverpool kinda did what we did last year, and Man City upgraded a touch. I'm in the camp that thinks Man U did pretty well. I really like their options going forward even though there's no star goalscorer, and I think Wan-Bissaka would be a terrific buy even if he wasn't addressing a serious need. Sure, they spent a ton, but they have a ton, and like Arsenal they would have expected to struggle to attract the really big guys. Not convinced that OGS is the answer at all, mind. In theory your window isn't too bad, but losing Rafa and bringing in Bruce makes the whole exercise almost academic. Norwich are clearly playing it safe and hoping they're stable enough to maybe edge ahead of three other teams. Sheff Utd have done enough to make things interesting if they hit the ground running. No idea about Southampton's new guys tbh but it sounds like they've made additions where they wanted to. Watford made their usual savvy and faintly dodgy buys, and West Ham may finally have got a proper couple of forwards. Not sure why they graded Wolves so low - feels like they pretty clearly upgraded the squad and they held onto Jiminez and Dendoncker, spending a lot of money in the process. As for us - well I think A- might be generous but I really can't complain at all. After spending literally nothing on transfers last year yet still achieving top 4 and the CL final, we had to spend. If rumours are true, Poch wanted Ndombele, Lo Celso, and Sessegnon, so, you know, that'll do. Keeping Alderweireld was a quiet triumph, although I guess there's still a chance both him and Eriksen will leave for Europe (and Danny Rose too?). Of the three I'd - somewhat weirdly - rather lose Eriksen, because of the guys we've brought in. Ask me in September how good this window's been.
-
Probably some kid. It's not completely unlike our line-up last year with Kane and Son & Moura filling in, but yeah doesn't seem inspiring. At least they don't have the CL to worry about .
-
I dunno, David Luiz has just gone for 8M, really can't see you getting 15M for Gayle. Also, you should probably have appended a qualifying adjective to Joselu too .
-
Didn't realize Pogba and Lukaku were mates.
-
thats probably woodwards/glazers plan Can probably see him walk out on the job if things doesn't go his way and blame this as being a big factor. Sell a key player late with no chance and time for replacement. I'd presumed this was sanctioned by OGS. Not sure Lukaku's all that key a player for him.
-
These sort of deals make me low=key depressed. A kid gets bought from a "sister club" then loaned straight back to a diferent club in that league. *sigh*
-
Well we bloody well should be, after a CL final and getting literally nobody last year. I'll believe the deals when I see them. Sessegnon and Lo Celso are looking possible, which would be 80M or so (I guess?). Can't see another deal happening unless we're really confident that Eriksen will go somewhere. Supposedly Bruno Fernandes is on standby too, if you believe at least some of what you read. Dybala is supposed to have some shady image rights stuff going on. My dream right now would be Sessegnon, Lo Celso and Dybala in, and Eriksen out. Not confident about that at all though. Lo Celso is the big one and even if it was just him I would probably be happy enough. Hope Spurs get them all just so you stop talking about other team's spending so often Never!

Presumably it's something to do with how much they spent last season.

Here's my quick back-of-an-envelope calculations - just on transfer fees paid and received: Arsenal - Spent: About 132M (plus supposedly 15M for Ceballos' loan fee and wages). Call it 140M. Recouped: 21M => 119M AFC Bournemouth - Spent: 50M, recouped: 31M => 19M Aston Villa - Spent: 137M, recouped: Gary Gardner => let's say 135M Brighton - Spent: about 60M, recouped: Not much => let's say 58M Burnley - Spent: 9M, recouped: 8M => 1M Chelsea - Spent: 40M, recouped about 112M => -72M (not including the money for Morata next year) Crystal Palace - 2.5M - 50M => -47.5M Everton - 80.5M - 57M => 23.5M Leicester - 76M - 80M => -4M Liverpool - 1.5M plus whatever they're made to pay for Harvey Elliott - let's say 8M. 9.5M - 30M => -20.5M Man City - 139M - 62M => 77M Man U - 145M - 0 => 145M Newcastle U - 56M - 32M => 24M Norwich - 4M - 1M => 3M Sheff U - 39M - 0 => 39M Southampton - 49M - 19M => 30M Spurs - 64M - 28M => 36M Watford - 8M - 21M => -13M West Ham - 64M - 41M => 23M Wolves - 87M - 3M => 84M In order, that's: Man U 145M (last year 47M) Aston Villa 135M (3M) Arsenal 119M (65M) Wolves 84M (80M) Man City 77M (l22M) Brighton 58M (68M) Sheff U 39M (-5M) Spurs 36M (-5M) Southampton 30M (35M) Newcastle U 24M (11M) Everton 23.5M (64M) West Ham 23M (77M) Bournemouth 19M (62M) Norwich 3M (-29M) Burnley 1M (23M) Leicester -4M (17M) Watford -13M (-20M) Liverpool -20.5M (127M) Crystal Palace -47.5M (10M) [Chelsea -72M (124M)] Sounds like Man U are getting some money back tomorrow for Lukaku and we'll be spending a wodge. Standouts - Aston Villa have spent an insane amount. Palace will have to do something, surely? Arsenal have spent a huge amount over the two years for a club outside the CL. Wolves and Brighton have spent a fortune. Leicester surely have money to burn for tomorrow. The Pozzos are making a mint from Watford. Norwich are super-frugal.
-
130M plus the loan fee for Ceballos, which is presumably a fair wodge. Wages probably gone up a little too, although if they get shot of Ozil that will help. If they had CL bonuses built into the wages that will help too .
-
Well I read it as 75M at first, so at least it's not as mad as that. They have spent an absolute shit-load of money.
-
Guessing Edu has been in his ear - if they can get Tierney too - it’s been a good window for Arsenal - so much better than anyone expected Most people didn’t expect them to spend anywhere near as much as they have. Compared to what we all expected, they’ve had an amazing window.
