Exactly, don't understand all this Pardew hates Europe? He gave it his best shot, never neglected the cup and fielded weakened teams no matter the opposition. Fact of the matter is, that we generally played pretty much our strongest side in Europe and it did bare an impact on our league form and history tells us we weren't the only ones to suffer from it. Be very interesting to see how Laudrup approaches it. Do i want to be in Europe again next season? Course i do. Does Pardew? Course he does. Because he said "thank god we're not in. Europe"? He's saying it in the sense that we don't have the burden of it again this season after how we struggled last season to cope but we will still aim to be in next season but be more prepared for it. What's wrong with that? Whats wrong with it is he's Alan Pardew and we didnt do very well last season basically. Its not a sensible quote tbf, hes not helped himself.

Do wish Lambert had reached this stage earlier in his career, was absolute quality parts of last season. Type of striker England have needed since Shearer really.

Nearly two season ago, Pardew's past record tells you things go wrong the longer he's in a job. And i go by the results and performances of last season, the most recent are the benchmark and it's been a steady downhill trend. The most recent season was affected by things that the other didnt contain, why focus on a belief that Pardew will get worse & ignore the possibility that it may actually go better again due to that? Im pretty sure people do it just to prepare themselves, i just dont see the point personally.

For the first part of the season we held the best defensive record in all of England with a defense of Colo, Taylor/williamson, Raylor & Simpson. We ended up with more clean sheets in a premier league season that we've ever managed before with the same list of players. Not worthy of comment atall like. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negativity_bias

Yeah if that was the single point id made. Cheer up mick man

I don't remember choosing to be negative about anything ever Really? Im sure everyones had conversations involving people picking you up by reminding you of positives you may have been ignoring due to a focus on things going wrong. Obviously people can learn to do that for themselves, changing an outlook etc

"He was here in our good season." The good season was poor for large parts, it was only the last few games where we started to play some decent stuff more regularly. Other than results, the good season wasn't really that good at all. List the "many reasons to believe this season may go better than the last." I can answer but im not sure what challenging what im saying achieves for you as i say. Why do you want to prove your negativity before it happens? I can imagine that many of our players are quality, who hopefully will have a stronger desire to prove themselves following last season with a fresh start & a world cup coming up. I think confidence affects a lot & a break will have helped them. I think Pardew has many faults but is a solid defensive coach who didnt deal with the disruptions caused by extra games last season for whatever reason. The only season we experienced without that disruption his preperation lead to us breaking defensive records (As boring as that whole mindset may be to many). I also think that this worked very well for us when we had individual ability going forwards & Remy + hopefully more signings will help that when fit. I think we had many injuries & hope that hiring Faye/this season will help that cause & allow us to keep our best players together for prolonged periods to learn. I like seeing Debuchy going through on goal several times, i like that ive seen several corners where we actually appear dangerous in highlights. I like lots of stuff & ive seen other stuff to moan about. I get to choose which to believe at this point though, as it hasnt happened yet.

I do wonder partly why people choose to be so miserable like, i understand it feels like some unshakeable reality to many that our manager is shocking but he was here in our good season also. It may be very naive of me but im looking forward to this new season, it may turn out we play really poorly again but ive no idea what good it is to mentally prepare myself for this by expecting & moaning about it months to then weeks before we see it happen. Id much rather feel naively optimistic & have that challenged if and when it actually clearly goes wrong. There are many reasons to believe this season may go better than the last, im sure we can all imagine them. Why not do it, what does negativity achieve?

That run of games was so mint. Cisse & Ben Arfa both in top top form, our counter attacks were beautiful. Felt like we could beat anyone again.
-
Because of Ben Arfa really, him & then Cabaye have given us leverage in France as French players want to play with them. We dont have players of that status from other countries.
-
He probably was, his best tends to last about 3 games. Did well according to most commentary today.
-
Dunno what you're talking about. Considering the results we have been amply challenged. Or werent motivated to play well against the opposition we faced. In the mind of a player i can imagine a certain satisfaction gained from testing yourself against a quality player, preseason or whenever. Not quite the same as squaring up to Ian Black of Heart of midlothian fame. They should be more professional but i doubt the adrenalines pumping like.
-
Do think our pre season fixtures have been pretty shocking. Most other clubs atleast play sides that would challenge them mid season in the run up, its no wonder ours look half arsed when we're fighting it out with motherwell & St mirren.
-
Was predictable tbh, he loves a late goal
-
Corner here like, get ready

Im calling a 90th minute equaliser from Shola
-
Itd just be nice to hear "Nice move from Newcastle" in several consecutive matches. As if somehow the one touch football we supposedly practice in training actually made its way into actual matches. Instead we get 20/30 yard strikes from Cabaye & Ben Arfa.

Our best player sounds like its been Jonas, who nonsuprisingly is probably the only one slightly aware that he may have to reprove himself in his position. Other than that the rest dont need to prove themselves much, winning this game has little value motivation wise. Cant draw much from it, just a bit boring if we dont have some fun.
-
Aye really s*** ones in the 2nd division of Scotland. Nah there normally is a 3-4 game spell where he randomly becomes more attacking each season. He scored that solo goal during one of them.
-
Jonas can actually go past players, he just doesnt bother half the time
-
Carroll was helped by playing in the best side in the championship pure and simple. He was a good player already but him & Ranger both made a step up about half way through that season. Carroll kept going & Rangers behaviour ruined him.

Marv isn't a winger. I know this. Would like still like to see his stats for last season. 3 assists wasn't it? 5 according to soccernet. Marv was actually pretty mint on the wing when he first joined before his injury. Played about 2 games didn't he? Had a few in carling cup or something. Remember him getting pens & crossing for lovenkrands to score etc looked like it suited him at the time.
-
He has this season to prove himself again, lets hope he does it.
