Pre-Season 2018/19: Newcastle United 0 - 1 FC Augsburg (FT)
Jayson replied to ponsaelius's topic in Football
Just seen the goals. Diame is worse than Dummett for the first, lets his man run right past him into free space. Colback jogging over casually to cover empty grass. -
I dont have a massive interest in Barca or Neymar tbh, but not sure how Newcastle fans can fail to agree with the idea of a player wanting leadership when we had Shearer wanting Ferdinand to vacate the number 9 shirt. Equally recently it being mentioned he wasn't happy about Sutton joining him at Blackburn. The dynamic of a new side would be different for Neymar, he joined Barcelona as a young lad and will have looked up to others. The psychology of that will have an affect, whether to pass in a key moment, whether he looks out for someone with a bigger status to do something or tries to do it himself. Maybe he doesn't know yet what he's capable of. Maybe if he's better for Brazil as Flip suggests, its because he has to be. Could be he wants to play for a club where he has to be too, where he is the guy people look to & demand the answer from. Bale is a good example for me. He was a far better player at Spurs when it was OK for him to have a crack & do it himself, because he was their best chance & he mostly came through. When he's got an 80m forward infront of him expecting the ball, the expectation to find that guy will limit his ability to have a go himself. His status is being lowered, so his options are also. But yeah money will come into it also you'd imagine.

We're getting s*** loads more money than ever before as well, it's not like we're sat here earning 2010 money. Club needs to recognise this soon and stop complaining about the "overinflated market" like we're not part of the inflation. We are, but the majority of the PL have benefited from the increases in TV money for an extra season. It's not a level playing field. Those PL teams had the extra season's TV money because they didn't try to save money hiring s*** managers. These things have a way of coming back and biting you in the arse. I don't disagree, but that's a completely separate argument. Ultimately, we are where we are. We could end up back where we were making the same mistakes again. Substitute hiring s*** managers with buying championship players. While I'm happy about someone actually wanting to play for NUFC in Murphy sign for us and I actually think he'll be canny, in the immediate aftermath of last season I would've only considered going for 1 Championship player and that was Tom Cairney, as I thought he was class above the Championship and would do canny in a side like ours (by that I mean a team not being in a relegation fight but in the bottom half, which is what I thought we'd be aiming for this season). Vast majority of the links have been underwhelming, I'm just hoping there's modicum of truth in the interest of taking Batshuayi on loan rumour. We're yet to compete with the signing of Ritchie imo. Gayle's been our most successful i'd say, but Ritchie was already one of Bournesmouth's best at prem level and dropped a division to play with us. That was at Championship level, so you'd hope we have some more pull now we're back up.

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/rafa-benitez-new-boy-jacob-13350544 Benitez says we may sign his bro in future.
-
Exactly the type of signing you want after years of us suggesting to players they'll be noticed by bigger clubs if they play here. For him we are his big club, hopefully his motivation and Benitez nous will help him. Can't quote now but said in our match thread last September: So quite chuffed we've signed him and he's turned out to be a newc fan.

Rafa's obviously ok'd it & we have a manager currently that can actively improve players understanding of the game. We went through all this when Clark signed, even if some don't do well others will. Wish this lad the best & hopefully he can step up.
-
I'm surprised not that many noticed this lad. He was probably Norwich's best player earlier in the season when they were competing for the top spot with us, before they fell away couple games after that 4-3 last minute turn around. He looked very good.
-
Ah yeah that Sky interview is different to the Chronicle one. So he's specifically said the same line to differing reporters, seems more calculated.
-
Neither really, he mentions Jan and the 30mil profit & they tried to go early (this summer) but sometimes you have to wait. He knows the numbers and what resources they have and still remains confident. It was on sky sports. Vids on here: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/rafa-benitez-gives-supporters-transfer-13342794 To me he's just saying it like someone who has doubts about the situation & wants things moving like we do.
-
Imagine if we don't beat our record signing this summer. Mike Ashley. I don't really get this. Bournemouth made near 130m for getting 9th in the prem last season, I read we got about 7m for winning the championship. The disparity now is huge. Can't really compare even us as a newly promoted side given what all the prem sides just earned.

Ah, that was familiar

So that's happened. Welldone lads.

Welldone freddie

Gf just made the point, wonder if connected to Ramadan. He was Muslim wasn't he?
-
Aw fuck sake. Will always remember him wheeling away after his goal with pure joy.

Benitez must be on more than our previous managers though, that signals a sign of change of tact from Ashley. Pretty much the singular time he's gone down the current proven manager route & he's likely paying more out due to it.
-
Happy news, I trust Benitez.
-
Nah. Their team came through, weren't their fans still celebrating losing at one point? It's actually superb that they won us the title really.
-
You guys do get he was still watching the match
-
Who genuinely cares about winning the league man. We won it just a few years ago and no one cares. Let Brighton and Hughton have it, let's try to compete in the main league and sort ourselves out a bit.

Oh man, wtf kind of nonsense -
Anita wont be going anywhere, Benitez loves him. RB is one of our stronger positions for options.

Fully deserved for Hughton, if I could have any other side win the league it'd be them.
