http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jLlqDrcSYeQ/TPZgl55Up5I/AAAAAAAAClA/Rbu29VBM6lo/s400/2%2BSpurs%2BProfit.jpg Doesn't this chart state a profit from player sales every year? I don't know what the facts are, I don't care TBH, but it does say that doesn't it? Does that chart include their own spent transfer fees though? Cant see what that would be other than "other expenses". Which for 2009 that would mean that they would have had to make 90m in players sold to achieve a 56m profit. So i think the 56m is purely what they got on selling players, not an overall profit on transfers.

They obviously believe they can achieve both. Improve us as a side, whilst also sorting our financial situation. Ofcourse they will hope for better than 10th they are just limiting fans expectations incase it doesnt go to plan. The choice they have is to either sign big players on big wages & increase our future expenses beyond what we currently make, in the hope that those players will bring in success that will then increase our turnover. Or to sign potentially better players than we have now & not increase our future expenses beyond what we can cover, again believing that those players will bring in success that will then increase our turnover. One option is obviously much nicer for an owner. It looks like Ashley sees our ability to scout good players for cheap as a way to achieve both.

Ticket money wont be that different will it? Tv revenue will have helped us cover ourselves this season yes since we've brought the wages down. If we're only now covering ourselves though, Ashley isnt going to start spending loads that isnt covered in the future.
-
Completely agree. There seems to be a fixation on this £35 million without thinking about the other revenue. We SHOULD be able to spend the full £35 million on transfer fees with the TV revenue/season ticket money/etc covering wages and tarted up training facilities. Been talked about in other threads but we've been running at a loss. It seems likely that this season we should have made a slight profit before the Carroll money. But potentially our turnover is just about matching our current expenses. If you then buy in more players and sign them on long contracts, your future expenses are going to be greater arent they. So i think Ashley is putting aside the full wages for the length of each contract for the new players we've signed so that everything is covered for the following seasons also. Which doesnt really contradict Pardews comments of the money being reinvested into the team, its just not how most football clubs are being run.

What did he sound like he was in the dark about? Sounds to me like hes fairly aware of whats going on & fine with it
-
Happy enough with his responses. Hopefully we get two players of class in
-
Two more offensive players And def a striker Good news
-
Full name Luis Enrique Martínez Rodríguez Date of birth July 11, 1982 (age 28) Hes been wiki'ing the wrong player
-
Football player in sharing his actual opinions shocker
-
Not really a position to stop a relegation from? Its the exact position Nzog went through to score the goal that relegated West Ham.
-
Dont see much reason atall to believe he'll suddenly become disruptive to the dressing room because he wasnt happy for 10 mins on twitter. He wasnt happy that Nolan was sold, dont blame him. Everyone moves on, he did within the hour. Completely normal reaction. I dont want us to sell him, even if we brought in Nzog. I believe hes the kind of player who will knuckle down and try to raise his game further now if our standard goes up, he's said that he will himself. At certain points last season he was chasing down everything & dictating a lot for us. Really stood out. Great player to have in the squad.
-
Cause he did so well at west ham, we wont be in for him
-
He couldve easily had a couple assists in the Everton game also if Carroll/Nolan had been quicker with striking their chances. He created both of those from the middle, along with his goal. Just need players around him who can react as quickly as he does, hopefully BA will be one of those.
-
Need to see more of BA, i think Carroll dominates defences more though. They have a similar conversion rate really for finishing chances. Cabaye should provide more to both our attacking/defensive play than Nolan. Creating more chances, though we need to make sure we can finish them. Enter Ben Arfa/Marveaux/hopefullyanotherstriker. Very good chance we'll be a much better side, depends on the ability of our new players to adapt to the prem.

It does get mentioned. Theyre obviously taking into account the money for the full length of the contracts for some reason, which given that theyre signing near everyone on 5 years is much more to put aside than the cost & length of the ones that have gone. For some reason our gate receipts/tv money etc over the next 5 years isnt being taken into account as covering the new players wages. The only decent reason for that would be if theyre barely covering our current running costs as it is. I dont know if that is true. But surely we would have been still paying Nolan/AC or their replacements wages in 5 years time, its just different personel. Its still costing the same in the long run, except maybe a small variation in wages, so i cant see how the people we have signed thus far have cost us anything we wouldnt have been already laying out. Will we actually spend any of the money we received for AC on additional players? They wouldnt factor in the wages past the length of the contract though. If they came to extend the contract, im guessing theyd probably then at that point figure in that extra expense over the next few years & use that as a reason not to spend in other places.
-
We're supposed to have been running at a loss havent we. 47m was wages, but our overall expenses in 2010 was 74m. Compared to our turnover of 52m. Take into account that figure for extra tv money this year & then whatever the fee's were for Ben Arfa/Tiote etc and we'd probably be quite close to breaking even this year. Then you have 35m from the Carroll sale, which theyre now using to fully cover signings/wages in advance so that our future expenses wont outweigh the turnover if that stays the same. Right?

he would say that, he's irish. anyway i thought it was that being born in a stable doesn't make you a horse. Ah, you're right. The 'biscuit' saying came from my Dad. If you grew up in an oven you'd be pretty close to being a biscuit tbf

Anything to read into from the words "there will be" a few contenders for the number 9 shirt rather than "there are"? Nah prob not
-
We want midfielders capable of goals & good at running with the ball/opening things up. Hes the perfect signing for our right wing & we're his favoured destination. Hope we sort it out.
-
Id be relatively dissatisfied if we went into the next season with Ba as our main striker having just made £35 mill on Andy Carroll. Ba might be good, but itll take a lot for him to have the impact Carroll was for us. With Nolan gone also, its asking a lot of Ben Arfa to suddenly comeback this season into a position that wasnt regular for him before and score loads. Still think we need another good finisher if we're to improve on our attacking ability with Carroll there.
-
More to the point we should still be in for another striker of quality They probably just bought their attempt
-
It'll all be on Gyan again.
-
One for the future surely? Cant be starting him upfront and expecting loads just because of the pricetag. A lot of money for potential you may not be able to count on yet.
