Guthrie in the middle???

Was a decent game, you've never watched a match twice? Didnt imply it was because of him anywhere. Passed comment on his and a few others performances, you're just playing guessing games.

Well thats a bit disasterous if true. Reckon Kadar will have a part to play in rest of the season, hopefully he'll step up. Aslong as Hughton doesnt put Simpson in central defence over him again which is very possible sadly. Obviously a defensive signing is very important now then.

You're looking at the big picture, when the idea of the thread was purely the quality of the defence on their own. Behind a competent team, many think they would likely be good enough to avoid relegation. Just as last seasons defence would have been much more so. As a whole they are hopefully forming some kind of understand, Colo is adjusting more to English football & defensively this season has gone well. Whether thats down to the quality of strikers in this league or our defense is debatable, some have missed sitters & some have missed purely because of good defending. Prem teams putting the sitters in doesnt = relegation quality defense either. Obviously as a side if we want to compete, we'd have to improve a lot of areas in the summer thats a given.

IMO it's a far bigger threat to promotion that we have no defensive cover than the risk that the midfield which has us top of the table and has enough cover will suddenly not be good enough to keep us there. Plus the chances that we would get anyone to actually improve the midfield for the money we are going to be spending is remote. I know nothing about this bloke, but under the circumstances I'm happy enough that we're getting in this level of player as backup in an area where we are most vulnerable from any injuries. Since we brought in Pancrate, I seriously doubt we're even looking at any more midfielders tbh. Agree mostly im happy with the transfer, but the midfield is equally as questionable to me. The midfield we're talking about has suddenly let a gap of 12 points fall to 3 against the side below us, things can change. I think we may clearly be settling with what we have in that area now yeah, whether thats good enough to keep us at the top is questionable. The revolving door of Nolan/Smith/Butt doesnt look to be the best in the league & our defence are taking a lot more on in recent games because of it. How we use Barton/Guthrie could solve it all obviously, but theyre probably going to be overlooked Milner style again. Id like someone brought in to shake things up, obviously wont happen unfortunately you're right.

It is more likely that our midfield will be outplayed than it is that both of our central defenders will go out injured again. But its only an issue if we're not looking to sort that area out aswell, lets hope we are. I tend to doubt it though. Right wing is probably our best chance of a midfield signing, but thatd pretty much make pancrate a complete waste.

Not really, as one of those numbers is right before the game ends so scoring at that point tends to fluke undeserved points. That was the entire point

Her made 7 changes for the last round, its hardly a determined effort to stay in it Main changes were Kadar & Ranger wasnt it. This was against plymouth, he likely thought that was still good enough. He'll put out a decent enough team, capable of winning just to try to get one over on them.

Ive given you 6 if you keep up. Our only wins in 14 were due to a penalty & a corner. I dont think its likely we'd have continued to get those in the last mins of games, whilst avoiding conceding while we were outplayed for the rest of it. Our other results pretty much back that up.

Comparing points won by managers who managed different amounts of games

Three? One at which point were already leading. Closer to 7/8 probably. I remember being aware at the time that without them we'd have been in the bottom 3 for a while. Everton, wigan, derb, fulham, birmingham are 6 for you. Thought there were a few more.

Keegan changed us into a completely different attacking side who outplayed opponents & didnt lose to anyone outside of the top 6/7. Allardyce made us a side that wouldnt have won in 14 games if not for two injury time goals in successive games. Completely identical yeah.

Allardyce was purely lucky with us. The number of last minute goals we got was ridiculous. If that hadnt continued (very likely it wouldnt) we'd have gone down. He's obviously doing better with blackburn (barely), but theres a different level of pressure on him there. Though even they are pushing now.

And its the same now. Blackburn have a couple wins by one goal against villa & Fulham. The rest of their wins are all teams in the bottom 6, he plays crap football.

Course we'd have gone down. His style of football just breeds negativity amoungst any fanbase with decent expectations for watching football. The second that starts, results are going to suffer even futher than they were as a result of the football itself. He's a crap manager.

Reckon he'll play a fairly solid team, he'll want to win the game & i dont see him giving up on the FA cup.

Good signing. Not his best game monday, two or 3 seperate moments he was completely taken out of it by good footwork & a quick pass at start of 2nd half yes. Outside of that he didnt have that bad a game actually. The basic solid things he did dont stand out as much as mistakes though to most so are forgotten. Got foward a few times also, nearly set up a goal. Happy with that for this league anyway.
