Two lads upfront and we score, big suprises. We should piss this now
-
Decent subs. Lets see who he takes off though. I dont think the players are the massive issue here.
-
This is all a waste. Carroll isnt going to be winning crosses against 2/3 other defenders. Unless we play it through midfield and have midfielders who will attack through the middle (we dont) theres nothing there for us. Literally no real attacking outlet.
-
Hughton change it you absolute clown
-
Disaster #3 in a row for Hughton already then, regardless of end result.
-
Hes just sitting back on this 4-5-1 formation for no reason now, its very strange. Seems desperate to accomodate Nolan being behind the striker rather than in midfield tbh.
-
Because getting back should be instinct to a pacey foward who normally hangs around the oppositions goal ?
-
We're crap creatively with one upfront. We struggle to create or find him, this is simple nonsense. Everytime we lose it we're trying to find Carroll. Wtf would he play Lovenkrands on the wing & 4-5-1? Hes gone nuts.
-
Not much worth praising tbh. Should be expected from anyone half competent. Right now hes definately only about managing half competent to.
-
Hughtons naffed this up with his formation once again.

Newcastle United V Plymouth Argyle Pre-Match Thread - 19/09/09- 3pm KO

Smith shouldnt be anywhere but in the role hes been playing in, forget his past now hes not the same player anymore. Completely different strengths. -
Butt jogging around for the long range strike for their first goal & being nowhere near anything is a good example of why hes no longer good enough at any level that involves running. Cant even pressure them let alone tackle anyone. Smith would be flying in like a madman & it would be far more effective.
-
We attacked better than them before 4-5-1

I guess it all depends on whether you're comfortable being told what to think by the numpties who do the radio. Im not talking about their opinions. Hearing......"Simpson sends the ball long/Enrique tries to pick out carroll" etc followed by "and blackpool push fowards" repeatedly for example gives a good idea of how we're losing possession often. Combine that with Blackpool having near 70% of the ball at certain points and watching the side play the same formation and be pushed back in the same way against Cardiff. And then sure, you'll have the commentators saying their opinions of whats happening on top of that. When it all matches up, you have a decent enough base to form an opinion.
-
Not to much when you're being told
-
Theres more than enough information going on to get a fair grasp of whats happening. Individually noticing what players are doing off the ball is the main thing you're unaware of not watching. Outside of that its a process of elimination isnt it. Butt plays, the opposition manages to find more space to fire shots in from outside the area. 2+2 =

Hughtons mainly adopted it purely because the strikers were injured, which is fair enough. It looked a temporary measure that was still managing to grind results, happy days. The issue comes when you stick with that less than efficient formation even though you now have players back...purely because its been narrowly winning you games. Not the best idea and its backfired on him. The mentality we need to win games in this league is that we'll piss every one of these teams away as we're better quality, the moment we start sitting back and getting nervy we're not playing as a top side in the league atall & wont get the results of one.
-
Whats sad about it is we had a massive warning about the result of playing like that against Cardiff. They dominated the match after we scored possession wise & we still came away with a victory. It couldnt have been a luckier example of a formation not working. So what do we do as a result of being largely outplayed for most of the match, we play exactly the same tactics & formation against the next side. Then we lose as the opposition gets loads of possession & creates chances from that. Its the same old basic nonsense. Attack is the best form of defence, when you have the ball the opposition doesnt. Same reason Jonas was such a key player for us & many didnt see that - if we have the ball we're on the front foot & they arent fullstop. Our failure the last couple games was not keeping the ball, largely because we lose it in our attempt to find anyone in an attacking position - as theres only been one there against four. Same as last season. It makes the midfield ineffective and we lose games & confidence.

If Hughton drops Butt for Smith that will atleast restore a little faith. He has previously left Butt out when he was supposed to be fit for smith, so hopefully that mentality plus our first loss with Butt in the side will surely make than an easy decision. -
Because he can create goals ? did at city a few years ago. seen none of it here unfortunatly. The pen at Reading, laid it off for Taylor to cross for Ameobis 2nd at Reading. Put a pinpoint corner onto Ameobis head that the keeper saved against reading. Laid off a backheel for Nolan? to strike against Reading. Was largely single handedly the reason we dominated the 2nd half against Reading. Fair enough thats a lot of Reading, but its the only game ive seen where he came inside much atall. Even though he was played on the wing once again. Since the injurys hes been dodgy but hes not playing in the right place. The best part of his game is knocking it about & sliding balls through to the fowards. putting it like that we'd have to have geremi as our first choice playmaker. Geremis not created anything in a long time. The last goal i remember him setting up was when he looped over a class pass to Martins who squared it across for Owen. Cant remember the game, Wigan i think. I wanted him in the team early part of last season, towards the end he looked woeful.
