You gotta add in that Villa & Fulham might not have much to play for by the time they face us. This isnt like the rest of the season. Im playing devils advocate but you get the point Your making a point against something i wasnt arguing though. Im saying we cant right Hull off as if we'll have very little to do to stay up & your just naming what we'd have to do.

Guthrie should have been fit to play. Taylor & duff shouldnt have been sitting to far back. He's showing far more promise than Kinnear/Hughton...he is reacting to performances well. But whilst trying, he is making a few cock ups......no point hiding from it. Whether much more could be expected from a man in his position is another thing...

He doesn't have much of an end product though. Owen playing in that role is proven to have one. He doesn't when it comes to crosses, but remember Villa? He was in the box and on the byline for Martins second. His movement against Stoke got him into those areas and i think he'd have plenty of end product if he played in that position properly. He has all the attributes for it imo and his short passing range is pretty decent a la Spurs with the ball into Martins which should have been a pen. based on ??

Owen is still our best chance of staying up.
-
Owens only fault right now is that he's not 6'4. He may have had one pass along the floor in the entire first half of that tottenham game, he took it went past two & jonas wasted what could have been a very big chance. Our entire attack came down to, loop high balls somewhere. Its useless, replacing Owen with someone else wont do much. Its our strategy thats crap.

Yep, we should have though. Duff & Taylor on the wings should both have been capable of getting foward, they simply didnt want to. Lack of confidence or confusion who knows, but they left massive gaps on each side in midfield which spurs exploited. I think in general the players have to be more confident in attacking with the ball, we're far to happy to loop a crap ball in...lose it...& run around after it. Only to repeat. Its as if they dont expect to do anything with the ball..so they want to be prepared for the oppositions attack by not even having to run back into position. So they dont go foward.
-
Our main problem v spurs was lack of width. If we're going to play 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 or whatever. The fullbacks have to push up more.....we cant have 3 really tight in central midfield...any half decent side will expose that easily.
-
Would he be equally as effective from the start though. Look at Carroll last week. They have more of an impact when the defenders arent set up specifically to mark them..or perhaps get used to the movement of a dif kind of player before they come on.

His mistake for the goal yesterday, should never have been so deep. Nearly did the same second half before blocking it. Not his best game.

"your club" is just as much theirs as it is yours you clown. You're supporting the same side. They wanted to know how to watch the team they support from another country as going down is going to severely effect our level of coverage abroad. Nothing wrong with that atall. Your reaction to it is moronic.

Al did cock up the formation though, cant take all blame away from Shearer. It was clear from the get go, anytime we pressured them they just knocked it over to the other side and carried on. Thats why lennon kept getting on the ball, we couldnt do anything. He sould have switched to 4 in the middle as soon as they started exploiting that weakness......he didnt. Obviously hes learning still...so i dont judge him harshly for it. We just need him to be learning a whole lot quicker than he is.

What we have to do is get a response. The players sit back to much early doors, gazza was saying the same yesterday...its always towards the end of the second half when they realise that theyre running out of time to get anything. They kick it up a notch & start breaking their balls to win everything...then we attack attack attack (even tho for us that means keeping the ball around their area). But the more we go for an attacking strategy in games the better we do...and that only happens 1-0 down in the second half. The fans need to get the atmosphere rocking so their addrenalin kicks in in the same way early on, so they feel like the fans are anticipating us scoring & that it might actually happen. Anything that actually gets them moving. Watching Nolan jog across the area with no level of determination to get to a player who had a year to take down the ball before shooting was one of the most enfuriating thngs ive ever seen. Him and Butts performance ended up pulling guti out & then we're done attacking as they dont support going foward.
