I'm praying the 'Shearer effect' will kick in for the three home games. Looking through each sides first few fixtures under new managers (apart from hiddink) thats the only difference. All bar sunluns first game under new management were relatively easy/winnable games at home for them all. For sunlun Bragia took over as caretaker...lost away at man u...then their next two games were west brom at home & hull away. Ours have been severely crap fixtures in comparison...unlucky as usual. Or just a stupidly late time to appoint someone. Anyway just hope the enthusiasm hasnt been knocked down by the losses..it may have done.

THIS, do not consider a single other position until this is officially sorted. Its been screwing us for years. Our ability to defend & attack goes up far more when we finally get this sorted out.

"Geordie" dean? In my experience Geordies are the most optimistic people anyone could meet, and for you to give up on us at this stage is a disgrace! We are still fighting and I and many others still believe we can get out of it. I'm sure Shearer believes, and if the vast majority of the St James' faithful believe I know we will do it! why ......... ?

Some on here are writing us off, why shouldn't some of us write off other teams who have a tougher run in? Cant write anyone off at this point, just think some are deciding things will be a definate way if we achieve certain things. There is still a realistic run of results that could relegate us even if we get 9 points. Not talking about giant killings here, bottom half teams playing eachother. Its not even that unlikely.. we're in a tough spot, theres not other way of looking at it. We need some luck There's also still a realistic run of results that could keep us up even if we only get 4 points. dont disagree, we have to hope hull, blackburn & boro dont get anymore results. Hull & boro especially, which is very possible. But cant write them off, Hull beat fulham away not long ago... & they do have it in them to beat bolton & stoke. Will depend how up for it those two teams are as i say.

Considering you've not seen the match today I find that an astonishing claim. Oh shut up man. Have faith. Its hard to comprehend the level of shite we possess, its worse than you imagine.
-
R Taylor - 'dead ball specialist' that is the only reason i can think of for him playing today. Nolan - Guthie just returning from injury - didnt have 90 minutes in him today. Shearer gambled with strikers as substitutes. Butt - who in our squad, is competent in defensive midfield??.. dont say Colo. Barton and thats about it. Either Guthrie is more useful tracking back. Butt jogs around infront of the area, thats his defensive work.
-
we're leaving it in stoke & boltons hands to be honest. Two sides that might well be safe by the time they play hull. They have to beat them.......& we have to pick up a win & a draw atleast. Hulls results are critical to our suvival now.

I dont agree with most of those weakness though. His distribution wasnt that bad, he stopped shouting at the defence when they turned shit..probably because hed given up. At man city i see him bossing them around easily. He saves far more long shots than those that beat him & 1 on 1 you could rely on him. Tbf on some crosses he looked dodgy, but nothing in comparison to some other keepers...harper especially. Thats taking things for granted.
-
I hope he gave them the biggest bollocking any side has ever gotten.

15 pages say you're wrong. 15 pages of people taking his ability for granted. Rubbish. I don't think you'll find anyone who thinks he isn't a very good goalkeeper, but to say he only gets beaten when there's nothing he can do is nonsense. Not really in the mood for petty shit. It was an exagerrated statement obviously, im not stating something as if its an absolute definate. You dont need to go back throughout his entire career and point out the odd occassion where he could have done something more. The point is 95% of the time he had nothing to do with it. Most of this thread is people arguing that he could do better with crosses, could boss his defence more, his distribution could improve & his weakness is long shots blah blah blah. Then you have others claiming that those long shots are just class strikes which no one can do anything about. Realistically he's a class goalkeeper, he has saved us from endless goals. Far more than harper will have.

Givens reflexes are still far better than harpers. He only gets beaten when theres nothing he can do atall. 1 on 1's he always got a foot, arm, shoulder, header or anything to the ball to deflect it somehow. We all took that as luck, when in reality its the position he sets himself up in which makes that possible.
-
they also have bolton & stoke, both who will probably be safe by that point and playing for nothing.
-
Why, can they lose points? Well, obviously we need to get three points, but you know... We could draw all three home games and stay up potentially. We're four points behind 17th though. Goal difference? We still need four points to be above them. Hey, I deleted that. Still think all this talk of us needing a couple of wins is bollocks? why ?

Ball was right into his hands along the floor, all he had to do was cushion it into himself, they go through all that in training. It was a big mistake. Then again so was the corner, the marking, the defending, etc etc
-
What big jobs has he had? Because being a number two at a midlevel Premiership team is not a big job to me. It was the same against stoke man, they go a goal behind....start actually pulling it together towards the end of the 2nd half when they realise they have to get urgent about it. The workrate changes and they keep the ball more. Thats all it is. It wasnt just viduka and martins coming on, it was the fact that we actually had the ball to give to them. Do that from the start and theyll prob turn to s*** again and start jogging around Viduka and Martins coming on had everything to do with our improvement. Infact, it was our improvement. Viduka holding up the ball more helped maybe. But we just kept it more in general, our defensive line pushed higher up......our fullbacks started offering themselves. If the ball bounced in the middle they RAN towards it flying, not jogging and waiting for the opposition to hopefully miscontrol it first. If they didnt get it, they ran back. They just got more desperate & it paid off. That extra kick of addrenalin. They dont have it at the start of matches.
-
agree with you on that. Viduka was actually a plus note for me. When the guy has the ball at his feet, it just sticks like glue. He just rolls it around, back of his heel, side, front.....he has brilliant control. So martins viduka and owen it has to be. Viduka holding it up, the other two trying to run off him. But we need Guthrie & Barton back in this. Without them its not even possible.

we do it because they dont fucking move into space. Then the player on the ball gets fucked over and just tries to get rid. Repeat over 90 minutes and you have newcastles game plan.
-
Butt wasn't the worst out there - by far it was Ryan Taylor and Nolan. By a country mile. To be honest your getting 3 different piles of shit and trying to judge which smells worst. Its irrelevant, they're all shit.
-
For the first time i really cant see us saving this. I dont think these are the players to do it for us.....upfront maybe we have enough.....in defence maybe we have enough. Harper can just about get by at times. Our central midfield will relegate us. Butt, Nolan, Geremi.....its just a revolving door of pure non footballing shit. Guthrie is our only hope and Al a man i respect very much doesnt even give him a chance. I cannot understand, frustrating is the biggest understatement in history.
-
There really are no words for it. In my lifetime we have never been this f***ing hopeless. I have never hated certain players so much, even in opposition sides. 4 corners in a row against the first man, after 2 youd think someone would try the near post for f*** sake. A f***ing child would work it out. The level of movement of those in the middle is nothing short of absolutely f***ing appalling. You add in the endless bullshit looped balls over that run out of play or are easily cleared. But the movement is what gets me more than anything. Pass and move for fuck sakeeeeeee. A child learns it at school...if you want the ball you have to not be standing behind the oppositions player. How retarded do you have to be not to understand this basic fucking idea. I cant swear enough at the level of shit that we are consistantly showing.

fuck them both couple of twats who couldnt give a shit
-
where as nolans been class

It couldnt be MORE obvious that we are shit in midfield apart from Jonas. How the fuck Shearer has left out Guthrie i will never know. For fuck sake alan, what the fuck are you doing man.
