Bent was good for Sunderland because they're shit and they could rely on him to paper over their inadequacies while they continually lost football matches. That's his level.

When you start looking at it per minutes played and start taking away his obscene number of penalties Bent isn't even that good. He's a 10-15 goal a season player with the other aspects of his game being that of a pub footballer. You have to build your entire team around Darren Bent to make it worth having him. It's not worth the effort or expense. Spurs have never looked back since they got rid of him.

Bent is an average footballer who relies on the team being completely built around his goalscoring. Sunderland were absolute dogshit for almost the entirety of his first season and relied upon Bent hanging onto the last man and bundling in goals. He has fuck all else to his game. Can't believe they got £24 million for him, Ba is twice the player. No self respecting team that wants to challenge for anything would employ Darren Bent. I remember people suggesting Arsenal should sign him. Watching Darren Bent try to do things like play with his back to goal and link up with good footballers would be canny funny.

Got to admit I've been wrong about him. After his early performances I thought we were doomed as long as he was in the line-up. However he's actually impressing me a bit recently, he seems to be actively adapting to the left back role and his defensive duties as well as becoming a bit more composed on the ball. I don't think he's a longterm option and the help from Jonas is pivotal but he's done a much better job than I ever expected. Fair play to the mackem slayer.

He's like Darren Bent only he can actually play football too. Beast.
