I do agree a bit with HTT about how the city is selling itself. We've gone overkill on being sold as a city for cheap nightlife. There was an article in the Guardian last year where Newcastle was ranked as the best city in the UK. It was a very good article, and was good at selling the city as a hub for the whole region. So good in fact, it made me really wonder why the hell the council and NewcastleGateshead tourist board isn't making more of an effort to sell the city in the same way. I disagree on the traffic aspect though. I think they're making a real effort to pedestrianise the city and get rid of the pollution, despite opposition from motorists (you just need to look at the Chronicle comments section on this). This country has been planning for the car for so long, that trying to change habits is hard and requires are lot of long-term, expensive and brave planning. It'll take a long time to sort that out.

Cracking museum though. The whole area is typical of that 1990s/early 2000s regeneration. "Shit the industry has gone, let's get some office/service sector stuff in ASAP". Not bad by any means, and certainly important economically for cities in the north, but just a bit bland in hindsight.

I was in Leeds for the Bradford game. It really lacks a core centre to it. Also thought the area where the Armories is around the canals is underwhelming; very unoriginal post-industrial development.

FWIW, I also think Newcastle is one of the best walkable cities of it's size anywhere I've ever been. And actually the variety of architecture is one of the things I love most.
-
That's fair enough like. It's just lazy architecture. Ugly with a load of weird design techniques shoved together. Oversized and blocls off views to St Thomas Church and the Civic Centre, creates a weird shadowy alleyway between it and the adjacent buildings. I mean it's a metro station, so nobody really cares what it looks like or how it functions, so it gets away with. Like you say with having no strong opinion on it.
-
Yup. I think the Haymarket Metro station is one of the most hideous buildings I've ever seen too, made worse by the fact it's always covered in advertising boards for it's eternally empty office space.

Hayden is already 22, Sterry and Aarons are still 21 until November, again not sure of the rules but thought is was 21 and under before the end of the window. We'll not be registering Armstrong of course as he is on a season long loan. I'm pretty sure it's January 1st. As long as the player is born in 1996 they don't need to be registered. So Aarons will need to be, Merino won't.
-
Maybe.
-
Merino will also not need to be registered.

Depor president apparently saying Perez wants to join them, but they can't afford him. I don't think he wants to come here (or to Fenerbahce), and that even if we were to sign him we may have a Thauvin situation in our hands.
-
What an absolute mess Inter made with Coutinho. Can add him to Roberto Carlos, Pirlo and Seedorf.
-
That new arts/conference centre is in Gateshead and will have been signed off by Gateshead Council, not NCC. Of course they'd want investment on their side of the river...
-
he's going to become an acceptable, and go-to talking head on NUFC ffs
-
Honestly can't believe anybody could stomach watching him.
-
Aye. It's not really fitness, but athleticism and his skillset as a player. I hate how slow he is and the fact he can't dribble with the ball. I think you're basically on a hiding to nowt in the PL usually as an attacking midfielder with those attributes.
-
FWIW I think he's shite and useless.

I'd love to know if these student accomodation developments have contingency plans for if the bubble is ever to burst on foreign students coming to the UK. Can they be re-purposed into standard housing stock?
-
Permission has been been granted conditionally, but still discussions over section 106 contributions. Basically what the council can get off the developers in return.

Started like a house on fire in the league. Put 5 past Spartak at the weekend. Aye I saw the highlights. Sold out the new stadium as well, which looks a belter tbf. Loved the Petrovsky when I went but it was tiny and falling apart.
